Hormone Level Reader

Guest Opal

Recommended Posts

I have recently started using a Blood Glucose level meter and strips to monitor my blood sugar levels. Although it is quite annoying, the info it provides is important.

So I was wondering, does a similar type reader exist for quickly measuring one's hormonal levels? If there is, I have not run across it. Would such a device be feasible, or is the analysis too complex for a field device?

Wouldn't such a device be nice to have for monitoring hormone treatment, and what would the market be like? I believe it would not only be useful to the Trans community, but to others as well.

Hugs!

Interesting Prospect Opal, I'm not sure about how It'd work, if its even possible, or if there is one out there, but if you find one be sure to report back to us. Google is always your friend on stuff like this.

Opal, Hon.......

I also do the glucose monitoring with a little maching and test strips everyday...

Yes, a hormone level tester would be wonderful, but even if doable, I think the limited market would preclude anyone actually making one...

If it was out there, I'd buy one (if it was reasonable, of course!)

How many of us are diabetic!???!!

Wow - no, I do the 'sugar' level tests (pain having to do so and the blood test strips are expensive).

I don't think there are hormonal testing systems for home use. But I might be wrong.

All I know is if you are suddenly crying for no good reason, everyone says you are hormonal! But then that ain't accurate neither!

I made some research are there are "home" hormonal basically.

Basically you have to take many saliva samples and mail them to the lab.

From what I've seen for E/T, if you want one hormone test it will cost about $65 and $100 for both, and it takes 2 weeks to receive the results.

I can't say this is very practical.

I have trouble affording what I already take, I can't imagine paying more money just to test my levels. I think I will wait until the doc requests them.

I only see nothing but ills that would result from such a test.

It is already bad enough that trans folk tend to compare dosages which motivates some to seek out more just cause others are taking more. I could see comparing serum hormone levels and then deciding they need more. Lots of room for abuse with little information of value provided.

Serum hormone levels are not the be all and end all of significance. The chemistry of what goes on, what the precourses and conversion products are along with what it means as far as effects is not describeable as one single number. One may have low levels because it is absorbed into the tissues and is getting put to work rather than sitting in the blood.

Many docs don't even concern themselves too much with the absolute levels depending on what dosages they perscribe. As long as the patient is on track with treatment, effects are what is expected, its not too important. My doc was never interested in E level but instead would look at T level to see how the blockers were working. And then looked at other more relevent things to his interest that would indicate some negative reaction such as cholestrol, liver emzymes, etc.

The hormone check is however useful to verify patients aren't abusing the perscriptions they are given. I have known docs to do this.

By the way, I believe there is a test to detect ovulation. I do not know if that looks at hormones or some other marker.

Hi Drea!

Yes, I was thinking that a field tester would be useful in an HRT regimen that might even allow for a bit more aggressive treatment. Now, for someone who foolishly attempts to self-medicate, I do not believe that the availability of a field tester would make a difference to them. They might, however, realize sooner that they were harming themselves.

As with any new invention, there is potential for misuse. But in the case of blood glucose monitoring, would anyone want to go back to only checking by means of a lab analysis?

Hugs!

Opal

Heck I didn't even know they could go up that high! I just have a four burner and one to keep stuff warm. What kind of pies did you make?

That's all the matters.   Well me and the wife rode to Perkins for breakfast. As we were waiting for our food. Being it is Sunday There are a few gentleman in suits, my guess from church. I think to myself. I hope I never have to wear one of those monkey suits ever again. Now a nice dress maybe.   Hugs,   Kymmie

From time to time I've looked at 'Who Is Online" and I have consistently noticed that members are ALWAYS outnumbered by Guests by a wide margin, sometimes, like a minute ago, by more than a 10:1 margin.  I have never seen that before on an internet forum.  It can be explained partly by the nature of what this is, that it draws the curious and they are certainly welcome to read here, and to join, but it leaves me with a feeling of being in a fishbowl.  I wonder who ARE these people?  Donald Trump, is that you? Biden? Sinwar? Putin?  We can only guess.

So from time to time my brain gets a hold of information and puts it together with other information in weird way that get me thinking. I was reading about a nudes cruise that they are running out if Miami. It got me thinking that a transgendered person who is also a naturalist, has to be one of the most unlucky people alive. How does one manage that and does that ever come up? Not trying to make fun here, just genuinely curious. Things that make you go hmmmm....

No luck there, really. She's getting a signing bonus plus a little extra that I don't think would cover much in the way of the move, but it is something!   Oh my! I am glad to hear you're not passing anymore blood. I hope they figure it out soon! How distressing!   @April Marie @KymmieL @Mirrabooka @Willow @Justine76, thank you for the kind words and thoughts! We told our best friends last night. There were many tears. Now it's all about the work: selling the house (my wife's friend's son said he may want to buy it direct!), a job (a former employee of mine wants to bring me over to his company--and they're based outside of Tacoma!), and moving (just started going through what we don't want bring and donating things). So things have kicked off.   I'm not so sure of the job, it would be good to work with my former employee (he's great) but I fear the culture may not be super welcoming to someone like me--and the guy doesn't know I'm trans in any way. But I'll give it a shot as my authentic self and see what happens!

@LadypcnjI'm sorry. I know the feeling my mom thinks I'm going through a phase too although I didn't come out till April 17, 2023, so it was later in life. I was in denial majority of my life. I would love to hear more about this if you are comfortable sharing more of it.

I love fashion. I have over 100 dresses and 74 pairs of shoes. My walk-in closet is full of other clothes as well. I'm getting more shorts soon. SHEIN is awesome for quality and price. Just when you get a leather coat from them it's just the shell not the liner. Most of my shoes are from Torrid because I wear size 13 women's.

Unfortunately Oklahoma is about as bad as Texas but definitely not as bad as Florida. Especially as a minor!

I'm sorry @Ladypcnj I can only sympathize with you on that. Therapist on the other hand is crazy. I have had 16 in 10 years. It sucks having to have to go over things. I will say though after 6 therapists I didn't have to explain my history they simply read the history.

I followed you and will give you my advice when I can. It has happened to me a lot too. If you want to you can always message me and I'll get back to you ASAP. I understand your concerns.
