A metal thread xD.

Kinda clear what I would like to do with this thread, but I guess a bit of an explanation won’t hurt  so here I go. I would like all of you to recommend me a few or a LOT of metal bands.

A couple of genres I like in metal are: heavy metal, thrash metal, folk metal, black metal, doom metal, death metal, grindcore, goth metal, etc. I also like hard rock and a bit of rock.

Genres I really dislike are metalcore, deathcore and hardcore. ( I know I sound picky :P but I just don’t like these genres :P and I think it’s best to let potential posters know that, before they do post certain bands).

"O" and if some of you know other bands who are instrumentally great please do post them I’ll try to be open minded :P .

Btw if anyone would like to discover a few other bands please do PM me ‘cause I’ll probably be able to help, at least if its metal you are interested in.

Thx in advance :P

Some of my favorites: Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe, Guns and Roses, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Slayer, ummmm well that's a start.

Most of them are from the 80s or so, but I think they're still good.

Disturbed

Cannibal Corpse (the Chris Barnes years)

Arch Enemy

6 Feet Under

Marduk

Cradle Of Filth

Static-X

Those are the heavier ones. A few softer bands that are still metal/rock and are good:

Tokio Hotel

Kittie (Chick Band)

Linkin Park

Warrant

Rob Zombie

Fozzy

Gwar

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If I can think of more I'll post them. I'll try to scrounge up some of my band's best songs and post a link to them when I get the chance. We're an Extreme Metal band.

Danzig is excellent...

also check out The Fearless Iranians from Hell - very amusing...

the second album from Elvis Hitler is very metal - and well done (no - they are not cup cake's - just exceedingly obnoxious)

It's not exactly metal, but if you want to hear some amazing guitar work - check out 24-7 Spyz (first album) and Bad Brains (any album)

enjoy

OMG  so many replies already. Didn't expect that :P .

First of all

The only kind of "metal" I'm into is Neo-classical metal/Instrumental Metal. I doubt it's what you're looking for.

Come one don't be shy :P , I said I was going to be open minded. But I’ll probably like the bands you’ll have to offer, since I like bands like haggard and … well I don’t know many symphonical or instrumental bands so they are a welcome change.

Most of them are from the 80s or so, but I think they're still good.

I really don't mind older bands, actually I mostly listen to metal from the 90's but metal from the 80's is great too so if you know a few more forgotten pearls froms those years (or even earlier) please post them :P

Btw I don't know if you know the band cyclone there also from the 80's and they rule :P . And because I've noticed you posted a lot of thrash metal bands so here are a few I know of (old and new): Anvil, Exumer, Cyclone, Vektor, Kreator, Tankard,Pantera and CHANNEL ZERO.

Cannibal Corpse (the Chris Barnes years)

Yes you’re completely right the years after Chris Barnes aren’t bad but it’s just more of the same old stuff and it gets fairly boring after a while (my opinion, not a fact :P).

A few bands I like to add are: Edge of sanity (especially the Crimson I & II albums), Ensiferum, Katatonia, Novembers doom, Behemoth, Candlemass, Carnophage, Atheist, Amon Amarth, etc. :P

Since it's getting late here I'm going to check have to check a few bands out tomorrow and after that I'll probably post again with my verdict  .

Btw I haven't been clear enough on which kind of recommendations i'd like so here I go again :P . I really like the sound of guitars so almost everything (except the genres I've mentioned in my first post although I won't mind if it's a really good band) with guitars is good. It really doesn't matter if it's purely instrumental or if it's alternative or whatever. Other genres that might be welcome are genres that rely strongly on played instruments (aka no sounds made by computers :P ), examples that come to my mind are classical music, jazz, etc.

That would give you a heads up as to what I mean. It's mixing classical music with metal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRq9hH2YgEE

Rhapsody is a good example...

I am a huge classical music nut but mixing it with metal makes is so awesome. I also like Power metal, which I forgot to add in. This includes dragon force, of course. I'm sure you heard of dragon force? It's likely you are one of many who heard one of their songs on the video game DDR. I knew about it before that but...

I can't think "metal" without Lamb of God comin up. They are to todays metal what Pantera was in the 90's. Chris Adlers drummin is top notch for the genre, I dare say better than Raymond Herrera (FF). If yous a Fear Factory fan (Burts voice is unmatched ^_^ ) then you may dig 'em, as well as the likes of Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage.

I've been nearly crucified on other boards for saying this, but I never got Pantera... they are terrible. So tell me what pantera was to 90s metal...

Dimmu Borgir, anything with vortex singing is win. Here is one of their more instrumental songs.

Cradle of Filth, this one always got my blood pumping. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zh0f5fxDEgE

That's the more instrumental melodic stuff.

Amon Amarth, can never have enough viking metal imo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQVrl7wRcNg

Eh tbh I've been listening to more and more primus lately. Over the Falls is pretty awesome and its got a great beat but it's not really metal. That and Blind Melon, they always put me in a good mood.

:o

I'm done talking to you.

 Kidding.

I considered Pantera to be something of a standard. I'm tryin now to no avail to remember music back then. It seemed kind of an iffy period for metal early on in the decade, but my memory fails.

And OMG! I forgot Iced Earth!

We need to learn to talk to each other again.  This place is important that way.   Abby

Nationally, sure.  But where I live, there aren't two large segments.  There's a majority, and a few who just don't fit and probably ought to move out.  I was in a nearby city a few days back, and I saw a billboard for the "Freedom From Religion" foundation.  That's acceptable there.  Here... folks would be making a bonfire.    I don't really see how the different sides CAN get along.  I see what goes on in California, and its like watching news from some alien planet.  It has very little to do with LGBTQ+ issues, really.  I can't live their way, I won't live their way, and I have no desire to compromise at all in that direction.  I'd prefer to be neighbors in separate nations, and I think folks would get along better that way.  I firmly believe the anti-trans stuff wouldn't exist here if we had a new republic of the Center-South area.  Even a micro-state of just my county and a couple others would be fine.    I get the giggles when folks think that Trump is somehow "far right."  Around here, he's a barely-acceptable centrist.  And by the standards of 100 years ago, its true.

I don't think the Dems have a corner on division.  I do try to kinda keep up with the antics on Fox for 5h1+s and giggles. We have two large segments of the population, living in their own bubbles, with completely opposite views of our society, who never talk to each other, only at each other. People don't even want to get along with each other. We're tearing ourselves apart from the inside, while the rest of the world just sits back and watches.

Trying to decide if I am one.  Hmmm.  It depends on the definition.  The Democrats' definition dehumanizes them, whatever they are.   I would like to see a restoration of respect for America around the world, one Obama threw away.  I would like to see factories reopen whose jobs went overseas because people like BIden wrote legislation to create a tax structure than encouraged that.  I would like to see an end to the division that Biden and Obama cause and exploit for cynical political purposes.  I would like people to be able to express themselves without fear.  I would like honest news media.  I would llike to see the federal government not push us recklessly into debt.   If that makes me MAGA, I guess I am.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
You've never encountered the Oklahoma State Troopers, then.... it isn't far from reality.  I swear they've got half an army of cops just sitting around.  On I-40, they've got big concrete pads where they sit in the middle of the highway, sometimes a row of 8 cars in one spot.  I guess they've got money to burn....
    • Abigail Genevieve
I fenced my posting of the link.  Yep.
    • VickySGV
Good to hear about that case, but I believe Oklahoma is in the 11th Circuit COA region along with Texas which is going to find some way to nullify this decision as far as the Oklahoma law goes, just because - - - -
    • awkward-yet-sweet
That's a Circuit (Circus) court ruling.  Which is essentially temporary.  Most everything right now is temporary, as the Supreme Court hasn't gotten around to dealing with all the various trans-related issues from the last few years.  I really, really wish they would just bite the bullet and do their thing.  It would save us from the constant tug-of-war. "The sky is falling!".... "No it isn't.".... "But there's crap coming down."....."It landed east of here"  Whether it ends up being good or bad, I wish they'd just lance the boil and let us either have a tyranny we can fight against or a republic we don't mind living in.  Mediocrity is irritating.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
I'm sure there are some...there's just about every kind of person imaginable in our society.  And I suspect that a number of actual GOP politicians aren't really haters...it just happens to be convenient to go along.  Like most Germans in the early 20th century weren't actually anti-Semitic.  It was just that it didn't matter to them.    While I'm not friends with any politicians (well, other than local ones), the majority of folks around me aren't anti-trans.  And one of my two trans friends is a Trump supporter, with hat and all.  My other friend is a Democrat, and the three of us actually get along even when we talk politics.  Life is interesting.
    • Abigail Genevieve
This suggests some of the problematic policies would be unenforceable if implementation were attempted.    https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/4th-circuit-gender-identity-is-a?publication_id=994764&post_id=144139815&isFreemail=true&r=rebf4&triedRedirect=true

You can believe what you want.  But there are such.  That should not scare you.  I wonder why it does.
    • Davie
I don't believe it. I've never heard of such a thing. That would scare me.
    • Davie
Yay for this . . . it overrides state laws. 4th Circuit Court says: Gender Identity Is A Protected Characteristic, Blocks State Coverage Bans. In a landmark ruling, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that gender identity is a protected characteristic, and that Medicaid bans on treatments for gender dysphoria are unconstitutional. https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/4th-circuit-gender-identity-is-a?publication_id=994764&post_id=144139815&isFreemail=true&r=rebf4&triedRedirect=true

I would challenge him next time about where is being transgender a fatal sin. The only thing he has about giving into fleshy desires. Another thing you can hit at does the Bible cover intersex people? Bible to me stands for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. You could also challenge him as to how many times has the Bible been edited.  You could challenge him on what music, movies, podcasts and tv shows and how they give glory to God. I challenged my mom, and she had nothing to say other than I know I'm right being defensive.
