T G Prejudice At The Country Club

Well, discrimination against the TS community has hit the upper crust at last. This will get the attention of Capitol Hill, I suppose.

The part of this story that made me particularly angry is this passage:

“Other members' comments support the conclusion that, although you are now a woman, members will be uncomfortable regardless of which locker rooms or rest rooms you use."

Oh, God forbid any caviar and crumpet-eating member should feel "uncomfortable." They probably felt uncomfortable when the first African-American wanted to join, or the first woman.

If I were her, I would tell them to stuff it and go form my own country club.

Don't let that upset you too much or even surprise you.

The Masters Golf Tournament is Played at Augusta Country Club and they are still unhappy about having to let him in - they don't care for Lee Elder and have their doubts about Veejay Sing.

I am afraid that the members would be uncomfortable with you on two counts - most were formed as clubs for white Anglo-Saxon Protestants so they didn't have you in mind because of your faith.

They may serve wonderful food and have the best golf courses and facilities in most areas but it is their basic nature of being built on bigatry that has made me never want to have any part of them.

Love ya,

Sally

Like I've said in another thread; Just another excuse to make someone feel lower then them/to discriminate.

One day this will all be in the past and the majority of people will wonder how people could be so cruel.

Honestly, ive always felt sum sort of bitterness towards ppl that are in a "Country Club".

They just seem to flaunt their wealth to much and think they are better than everyone else because they drive a certain car, and talk a certain way.

and this...

this makes me just shake my head in disgust.

The society we live in disappoints me.

<_<

guess this just proves my point that they do really think they are better than everyone else.

It's not the least bit surprising. I grew up going to country clubs-sorry,my parents and grandparents fault-and never saw anyone not pure WASP. Oh they let a few people of color join after the Civil Rights movement-and made sure they never wanted to be there.

Icy politeness was the rule. But those people had legal protection we largely lack.

My dad's law partner married an upper class woman from Mexico City in the early 60s-family way older than anyone at the club could claim and better educated-and there was a bitter battle over her attending. Most of the members were darker tan by far than she was. I don't know how she was finally admitted but suspect a large donation changed hands. Very large.

Nasty places that still stand as bastions of values that are no longer acceptable or relevant so I wouldn't be concerned if I were excluded. I suppose they'll reach a settlement and maybe it's karma-you know her family excluded others in the past on the basis of race and religion. They all did.

That story rather irritates me...

I have a lot to say about the people who are currently members of that club, but nothing that would get past a moderator...

Honestly sometimes it's best to just avoid these places. I mean if she gets back in, what then? She went against the grain and now she's surrounded by the crotchety bigoted old white men who booted her. No good can come from that, these old farts are set in their ways and will make her stay there miserable. I understand trying to prove a point but this one is not one she's going to want to see through sadly.

Some people are just evil, they call it faith but it's evil. I've seen it over on the christian forums where they are particularly evil. They hide behind faith to post their many hate filled threads about how the GLBTQ crowd is the lone evil in this world. Only reason, only reason I'm there is to help pull any potential transgendered folks from their almost WBC like ways and help them find a sane environment, here. They almost caused me to kill myself a while back when I was first dealing with this, nothing like being called a sick (slur for gay people) who won't repent and being promptly banned for it. Point is, maybe this is what she is trying to accomplish, idk maybe. I hope she succeeds but not at the cost of her well being.

....I seemed to have gone offtopic. sorry.

I read that story as well and, well... What can you expect? When the lgb community can barely tolerate us, how can we expect a bunch of intolerant summer club bigots to open their arms? I was angry, but only insomuch as I have the same anger for all of the galactically stupid out there who think we just want to use women's restrooms...like the end all and be all of our existence is conditioned upon where we pee...

Yes, be angry, my dear friends.

I used to work at a private country club years ago and I can verify that this comment is half-true.

We had two kinds of rich people. Old money and new money. The old money people were used to their rich lifestyle and were actually very nice people. They were older, yes, but very nice and pleasant people. We liked these couples.

The new money people were younger and were more inclined to flaunt their wealth. In doing so they were also more inclined to be rude and overly demanding. We didn't like these people. They were mostly men who played in groups of similarly aged men. The old money crowd played as couples, with their wives.

Just thought I'd add that....

I am not suprised at all by this. They have their noses up in the air to anyone that doesn't fit their criteria. They always act like they are better than everyone else that is not part of their high society. Like Gin said, does it really matter where we go pee?

Totally agree with the bolded. I have a ton of lesbian friends on the net who are amazingly supportive, but its very obvious that some 'friends of friends' don't care for me. And I've never been agressive with them or said inappropriate things. But I was born with a penis and thats enough of a reason to not like me regardless of where I end up.

The article in the OP is from the Advocate, and look at the comments. If this were a story about a lesbian who was discriminated would there be as many comments talking about how ugly she was or that she should try out for the circus?

The awkward thing for me I think is that I wouldn't want their tactics to work and force me to leave, but neither would I want to go there with people like that!

I guess with any situation, you want to leave on your own sound. So as far as gaining re-entry into the club, you can then make a big cahumpoos about the situation, and leave on your own terms, dignity in tact.

-shrugs-

Thats what I'd do anyway, but, I wouldn't be a part of that club to begin with ^^

Just thought I'd add that...

that is something i notice as well.

it seems to be the younger ppl who are the snobs.

the older ppl seem to be pretty nice and kind ppl.

although i have seen old snobs every now and then.

but for the most part they're alright.

Let me see if I get this right. A country club in Wrightsville Beach, NC has told a minority to leave the club? This is news? While I feel for her, these places are known for breeding hatred and discrimination. And Eastern North Carolina is worse than most. Oh, well. Maybe it's for the best that she got kicked out, the place is swarming with WASPs! :P (sorry, couldn't resist with the last one)

Well, my friends are out publicly. Openly transgender, and on HRT.  I agree that the survival of all of us is at stake.  But I think there are threats greater and more dangerous than those faced exclusively by LGBTQ folks.   Rising prices. Unaffordable food.  EPA strangling transportation and energy.  Needless foreign wars that put us at risk of literal nuclear annihilation.  A government that wants to tax us, track us, and control every aspect of our lives...including using us as guinea pigs for their medical experiments.     Trump is no savior.  Neither is the Republican party.  But I believe that a vote for Democrats in the federal government is for sure a vote for globalism and what follows it.  War, famine, plague, slavery, and death don't care if we're trans or cis.

People who are out publicly, and openly transgender, maybe on HRT, having changed names and gender, have a lot to lose if anti-trans politicians take power.  They have openly called for our eradication, and promise to do everything they can to accomplish this.  (again, 2025) For someone in this position the election is about our survival.  It's foolish to delude ourselves into thinking "Oh, they don't really mean that.  It's all for show," or, "There's other more important things to concern ourselves with." Maybe for some people the other things take priority.  But if you have skin in the game, things look different.

If that happens, a lot of things I don't want to see might also be codified into law.  And some things that shouldn't be law might not get repealed.  To me, progress in one area isn't worth the price we'd have to pay in several other areas.     For me, voting on LGBTQ issues always ends up as an "out of the frying pan, but into the fire" sort of event.

Thea, your post made me think of a comic named Chloe Petts whom I saw recently on Hannah Gadsby's Gender Agenda comedy special on Netflix. She is a cisgender masculine lesbian. She is brilliant and so funny. I was intrigued by her identification - specifically masculine, not butch. And it seems to me there is a difference.

Today I had a dr appt. When I checked in, I was asked my surname, which I gave. Apparently there were two patients with appointments at that time with that same surname. The receptionist asked, "Are you (my legal name which is feminine) or Paul?" I got such a kick out of it not being assumed I had the feminine name.
    • Vidanjali
That must have felt affirming, albeit perhaps weirdly so. However, I'd construe that more broadly (no pun intended) as sexism rather than misogyny where the latter would imply contempt. Also, incidentally, I've heard chivalry referred to as "benevolent sexism".

My boss is in a panic. His business is a couple straws away from breaking a camel in half. He's just handling the stress very poorly.   My dad, though. He's handling things pretty well, as long as I continue to don't get massively offended by being called: son, boy, etc. His eldest is leaving the State and looks so different than he's been used to over the years. I haven't told him I'm on HRT, but to be fair the changes haven't been massive. I've always had boobs, more so after COVID weight gain and made more obvious with its loss, but now I'm not hiding them--and obviously wearing a bra. The estrogen has done some work, but nothing major (sadly). I think the biggest HRT changes have been my skin and a mild amount of fat redistribution.   Today I'm wearing my cheater, I almost have cleavage! :D I need to get another t-shirt bra to keep a good rotation. I only have two, one push-up, and the rest are unlined (great for Summer, but not great for my Summer wardrobe ).

I eat a ketogenic diet and have had no problems. I don't know about your case but I suspect it is the estrogen. Research the types of ways to take estrogen. Pay close attention to the bloodwork results. If they are not satisfactory, bring it up with your doctor. I take injectables, which are fully covered by insurance. It may not be the route for you, but something to consider. I emphasize to do your research and good luck. You can solve this. Be persistent.    Jennifer

I'm in a magenta blouse under a baby blue buttoned cardigan - still a little cool here in the northeast today - with dark blue jeans. Oh, and my favorite flame colored copper feather earrings.
