Phantom Genitalia

This is an issue of concern for me as it relates to Transsexuality, because many times I feel like I am experiencing this.

For Instance, this morning on the drive in, I kept feeling a very specific female body part tingling, and had a vision in my head of exactly what it looks like-but I don't have one. I have never had one, even though I have problems feeling what is really down there. And I know no reason why I'm feeling it now.

It affected me so much that when I walked past the receptionist and said, "Good Morning," she said "Good Morning, R*" like she normally does. But for some strange reason, I was stunned. I was expecting "Good Morning, Sophie," yet I have no reason to expect that. I always present somewhat androgyne at work, and never presented en femme there.

Today, I did a google search on "phantom genitalia" and was rewarded with the following article: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...t_uids=17420102

Sophie Jean,

I read the article you sited and I would have to agree with it. I don't know how common it might be to have these sensations but I have experienced it too. I am ftm and for many years I would wake up in the morning feeling that my entire body was completely male for the few moments between sleep and awake. I had my chest surgery done three years ago and have never had any phantom sensations of the now missing breasts. That might be because they never felt like part of my body before they were gone.

I am not real sure of what to 'look' for here, but I do not believe that I have ever experienced the phenomenon, nor do I wish to, given the utter loathing which I fostered for that particular part.

I perceive and feel of course, neural sensation and command of the remaining musculature, but nothing analogous to a 'three-dimensional' mental representation of the complete organ.

seems rather common. i wouldn't be to fast to assign any specific cause, may be many of them. anything from a euphoric response to dysphoria to, and don't think i'm too nuts, but, a spiritual awareness of something that really should have been there, or maybe really is there, just on another level. i know, sounds a little goofy, but who knows what's all out there unseen? lotsa love and hope, pj

I have experienced this 'phantom genitalia' feeling all my life, never admitting it to anyone until this year. Talking to other ftms online, they all own up to having the same feeling, and are relieved to find they are not the only one in the world. (Isn't the internet a wonderful thing, hooray!) We all agree that packing is strangely comforting and soothing. Good to read the article and know some progress is being made in research and that (quoting from the article) ...' We would emphasise here that transsexuality should not be regarded as "abnormal" but instead as part of the spectrum of human behaviour.'

Whew! ;)

I thought i was the only one to have these feelings.

I have been tucking my unwanted genitalia since the spring of (03)

From before the time i started,i have felt that ghost of the right genitals between my legs.

Therefore the tucking.I had gotten to where i just couldn't take that awful bulge anymore.

Waking up in the morning lying in bed and(Not) seeing that bulge that i do not want...

Makes me feel one whole lot better.I like my image in the mirror better too.More congruent.

And i have been tucking for so very long it is normal in appearance and feelings to me now.

NOT seeing the (P) instead of the(Vee)that is supposed to be there, just gives me some peace of mind.

I know girls who do not tuck. And that i just do not understand at all.

It might be a society thing.

Not being in transiton yet, they feel they (have)to conform to societies view on how a (man)should look.

Yuck!!! No Thank You.

I have insomnia. So cruising the MTF forums,i decided to go back a few months.

And there is Sophie's question.Dang i'm glad i went backwards. :D

Angie...Oh Yeah, Morning All. :P

I occasionally had phantom-genitals feelings. I'm sure that's because my brain is trying to connect to what it thinks is there. Those feelings were especially obvious when I wasn't focusing on anything.

it is hard to see the link when it will not show up for me, but my opinion is over a period of time one would remember what they had lost, and as a past regression their body copies past experiences into the nerviouse sytem, and in the oposit case, the mental brain pattern would fantasize about the part to a degree it would create a false duplication anomily within the nervous system that acts as a response to the part.......i am not a psycologist major or anything.....but to me this theory seems plausible......either that or have the mafia come in, bop me over the head and drag me to the river......wait what are you--?!?! -gets boped, and dragged to the river-

hey this is an experience ive had too, its slowly been coming less and less my freind on ffxi tells me its because ive hidden it so long and since ive opened up it has been coming back slowly but surely. i happen to have some info on the phenomina (Lol cant spell that) one of the theorys is that out brains have a blueprint of exactly how our bodies are supposed to be and theyve even noticed the occurance in ppl with amputations of theyre arms, sometimes pains or slight sensation... i miss having my femme feelings every morning ; ; maybe i should start praying again when i stopped asking god to make me a girl thats about when the occurance happened less and less for me. but ya ever since i have started being more open ive been noticing a lot more feminine occurences i had femmy feelings after playing with my hair in the shower i either hadnt had em in so long or they were REALLY strong that time and it just floored me and i accidently came out to my freinds because i forgot that i was in a guys body and we were all talking about getting married and i just had to say "just remember brides parents pay for the wedding... im gonna cost my parents a lot of money"

That's interesting what your describing, but as far as i know a phantom limb is for example if you lose an arm in an accident, and even though you're arm's not there anymore you still feel it as if it was still there. In other words, what you are saying would make more sense to me if you already had the SRS and was still feeling a phamtom penis that was no longer there. However, that is not what you are saying, but still it's an interesting post.

Don't get me wrong it's great you feel that way at work, but if you feel so strongly like Sophie at work then why don't you try starting to present a little more.

I do spoken word acting, and give Trans 101 talks and other public speaking.  I wear make-up for those occasions.  Sephora is easy for me to get to, and has a foundation that does a good job for me and the sales folks there are Trans Friendly.  Their eye shadow pallets are also fun to use. Another source of my foundation is Ulta which carries Dermablend that does a consistent job of my lower face and chin.   I just use good old Revlon lipsticks because I ruin them by leaving my purse in the hot car too often.

I'm not interested in makeup, jewelry or nice clothes or girly stuff.  It's made me wonder at times.   It saves some money.  If I wore a skirt it would likely  be denim.  I thought about a woman's skirt suit but nah.   Neither of my sisters are into that stuff either.  One likes peasant chic (still a 60s flower girl)  and the other - the only time she has ever worn a dress was at her wedding.  Jeans at all other times.   Jeans and t shirt here.  Content being a girl.  Weirdo. Weirda? Never mind.

@Ladypcnj Before posting links to other group's websites, PM one of the Staff (preferably an Admin) and have them check that site out.   We have specific rules here regarding age appropriateness and would need to know that the other site is in line with those rules.  We do have members here between 13 and 18 and other sites need to be safe for that age range, legally and otherwise.  Also, we are not a dating or pick-up site, not do we allow people selling things to advertise here.  As I said clear the link with a moderator or admin before posting it.  Mod's and admins do check out posts and if we find problem links we will remove them and notify the OP of a rules violation.  Go to https://www.transgenderpulse.com/community-rules to understand where we are.

I raise my hand in the group, I have a question and a suggestion... is it allowed to share other new lgbtq+ website links here?
    • Ladypcnj
Yeah, ELF is a good brand, another brand is Revlon ColorStay last 24 hours.

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.
