Walking On Campus

“Hey Joe

Did you see that

Walking past us”?

I knew

They were talking about me

And there’s nothing

I can do

Except to pretend

I did not hear them.

“Yeah

Think its one of those

Whatchamacallits

Generically modified creatures

You read about

In the National Inquirer

Paul”.

“Nah

Just some poor freak

Whose parents

Couldn’t afford an abortion

Or have the nerve

To mercy-kill it

When born”.

They know

I can hear their entire conversation

But do not care

Focusing on destroying me

Verbally.

Hands clinched into fist

Until my fingernails

Drew several small streams of blood

From the palms of my hands.

Quickening

The pace of my steps

While trying to avoid

Breaking out

Into all out run

Signalling victory

For them.

My body

Visibly shaking

Like leaves

Caught in

A violent wind storm.

Losing myself

Within the crowded safety

Of a busy Yonge Street

Tears streaming

Down my cheeks

As I am homeward bound

On the subway.

Note To Readers: This is a fictionalized account of events that happened to me, while walking on Ryerson University's campus, here in Toronto, on October 31, 2008. I was walking to my Credit Union's ATM, located on their campus. Not sure, if the two guys were students or not, given the campus is spread over several downtown streets, here.

Nikki......

Collages are like any other cross sections of America....

It runs the gaumet from diamonds to jerks....

Don't let it change your mind about going....

Remember...Beauty is only skin deep, but, stupid goes straight to the bone....

I would guess that those two lead very mundane, pathetic lives, assuming that they are still even alive.

Sorry that you had to endure them. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Huggs,

Opal

Nikki, not all people on campus, are totally dull tools, just a handful, but they can be mean and destructive. Just have to be careful and make a strong circle of support, for the times, you need it.

May I, suggest you drop in your campus' GLBT centre, they can offer and give the support, you may need. Good luck on going full time and with your studies. :)
