No One Will Listen To The Voice Of Reason

On my MSN homepage I saw an article on worst foods so I thought I would read it and once again the miscreants have lied blatantly to us.

In every example of good verses bad the portions were reduced almost enough to account for the calorie difference alone - and the substitute was not anything like the same taste - we should enjoy our food, eat less, walk more increase your metabolism and you will lose weight just cutting back or cutting something out completely does not work for everyone - because everyone's body is different - metabolisms are different - there is no one size fits all for anything - not even caskets.

I wrote this response:

Once again the diet helpers and fat watch-guards are doing their level best to distribute misinformation. Compare at least similar tastes - you cannot because so often the unique flavor of a dish is conveyed through the fat or sodium - but with that not being possible at least compare the same portions! Half a salad comparing calories to a full salad - a whole pizza - evil high calories - your solution a different topping and only three slices - do the math three slices of the first pizza does not deliver the shock value in its calorie count. Someday, somewhere in a better world people will stop trying to scare us into believing but actually inform us and let us make an intelligent decision. Try it just once almost every example given in the Today show video was a smaller portion on the 'healthy' side and that my panic stricken friends is the only answer - eat less but it is OK to enjoy what you eat. Every body is different and processes food in its own way some cannot tolerate fat some cannot process sugar or salt but others need larger quantities of these merely to survive - why don't we legislate how our bodies process food so that we my all be your ideal of perfect people - better yet consult Mr. Huxley on how to create perfect people.

Tired of all of the panic - don't eat eggs, eggs are good for you again, bananas caused polio no wait it was air conditioning , no wait public swimming pools - do a little more research and get it right then talk to me.

I was not allowed to post this, they could never able to approve a user name for me, I am to try again later - FAT Chance!

Once again my voice is ignored, I'm used to it.

Love ya,

Sally

Totally agree. People are built so different, one can't just say the food is completely "bad" or "unhealthy." For example, for myself, I don't have to count calories to limit them, I have to count calories to make sure I have enough, because otherwise I'll become underweight. Same with my mom: we actually swap tips and gaining calories.

My dad doesn't eat that much, but his metabolism is really slow. But he knows if he just exercised more, he would probably lose weight.

In a way, I feel lucky that my body forces me to eat what I consider to be relatively healthy, because it has a very low tolerance for fast food, very greasy food, junk food, and red meat. That and a lot of these foods I don't think taste good either (though some ARE delicious, I won't eat them, because I won't have 10 minutes of delicious food just to have much more time of feeling physically awful). My "do not eat" list is huge, but what's not on there? Butter, salt, oil, seasoning, pasta, rice, sugar, all that stuff is fine, especially if made in your own kitchen, where you can see exactly what's going in there. Tend to have much more issues going out to eat, or worst, cafeteria food.

In general though, I think most everything, even "unhealthy" food, is fine... in MODERATION.

Besides that, I hate the "fake" food, like margarine, fake mayo, splenda, etc. I mean... why? Or like diet soda, where because it's "diet" people may drink more of that then regular soda and that doesn't help at all.

Or that fake food that looks like the real food, but personally "looking" like something doesn't override my taste buds. "Mashed potatoes" made out of cauliflower? No.

Thanks for alerting us Sally.

Each of us is so individual that what works for one doesn't work for another. But as with most things the battle is won or lost first in your head.

Your voice is always valued here. In the mundane world-most people-cis ot trans, gay or straight are ignored most of the time unless they are agreeing with what is being said.

Just the human condition.

Have you ever tried smiling and saying something outrageous with as much charm as you can muster. Most of the time people will smile and say something nice back. They are just not really listening

When asked how I was doing i responded not bad for someone who has been dead for over a month - she never even blinked.

And they singled out some restaurants listing a chicken Carbonara dish at one restaurant as being high and someone else discovered another chain with a third more calories and fat - but who goes to The Cheesecake Factory looking for health food?

There is a lot of truth in what you say, Sally. Your statements have a high fructose truth content, and they are saturated with humor, high in sodium and frustration.

Months ago I started eating for lunch half a TV dinner, or half a bowl of instant soup, or half a bowl of Cup o Noodles, cut out most of the snacks I used to pack like chips and cookies, and substuted fruit.

The result - my weight has been stationary. OK, if I hadn't made the changes maybe I would have gained five or 10 pounds, but still, my frustration grows along with my impatience and my hunger. Should I exercise more? I guess so. Can I cut back even more on my calorie intake. Probably so. Is it easy?

No, it isn't. :(

Actually Carolyn when you cut way back on food your body says "Hey we must be having a famine and i have to store every ounce of this". You can end up losing muscle and brain tissue-yup brain-while not losing much if any fat.

So the key is to vary the amount you eat. Eat a little more 1-3 days a week depending on you body and what sends it into starvation mode And yes, to exercise more

I used to play video games when riding my exercise bike. Wouldn't let myself play them any other way. Or read a book as i rode. I also like some exercise DVDs but hate others. You can usually check some out at your library to see what suits you. There is a big difference in difficulty and approach

Another very important thing is getting enough water. Most of the time instead of feeling thirsty we just get that nasty "I really need something and I need it now" feeling that sends us rummaging through the fridge. When that fridge door is open and we're in hunter or getherer mode all is lost.

And one last point-muscle-and water -weigh more than fat-lots more. Don't go by that dreaded scale except on a general weekly basis. go by how your wardrobe fits.

AS someone, who has struggled with a weight issue, for most of her life, I understand your frustration and anger. Even without taking into account my diabetes, I have forcely restricted, in what I can eat. Gotta love food allergies, especially the type that requires carrying an Epipen, wherever I go. Depression doesn't help on this front either. Sigh.

Thanks, JJ. Didn't know that. Must be why my wife calls me a fathead.

Good thing you said "excercise" bike. I was thinking, "not gonna lose much weight while recovering from hitting that tree."

Good morning! 🤗   Just weighed myself and I dropped a couple of kilos in weight, I'll head to the kitchen and make a nice mug of Jacobs's brand coffee.    I'm back to feeling myself again after my 4 day stay in the hospital over the weekend. 🙂   Only one more day till shopping! 🥳

Good morning   i need to watch my tlime I open and can’t be late.  I think I figured our my breakfast issue,  a big bowl of honey nut cherioos  works better than two toaster waffles   yesterday’s coffee debacle got better mine was way too weak. Wife made a cup later, way too strong,  now if we just had baby here to get it right.   ok I admit I like Sheldon tv show.  I was planning on going to bed at 8:30 when it was over not realizing it was a double episode. Watched the second too.  I wasn’t expecting that ending.  Glad I didn’t miss it. Sorry there is only one left.     it seems like the writers strike killed a number of my preferred shows. Eithe this season or next fall will end several good shows   well gatta go.  Not even proof reading today.   hugs   willow

My experience is very similar to yours, Sally.  When I first started to socially transition I thought 'blending in' was the best approach.  It did not work AT ... ALL.  I was misgendered so often. So now I try to feminize as much as my wardrobe (and time) allows.  For 'girls' my age I believe I am far more fashionable than other women.  So, lately I have been much more successful at 'passing'. But also like you, I am not really trying to fool people.  I expect they assume I am Trans and I just hope they respect my femininity and my humanity.

Actually, they did back at the times of the AIDS pandemic in the 80's.  Some of my slightly older than I am Gay friends were beaten up and thrown out of gender correct restrooms back then.

I'm not sure the past is a sure guide to future needs.  LGB have no dog in the fight on public restrooms, for example.  That is T only, and only some T at that.

When I appear on the radio and podcast it will be in discussion with a political scientist who will discuss those aspects. I’m focussed on the implications for kids and why the recommendations are flawed. But yes, I will probably briefly paint the political background.

GFY, @Betty K. Don't forget to write about the motivations for the Cass Report, and who paid for its conclusions. "Cass Met With DeSantis Pick Over Trans Ban: Her Review Now Targets England Trans Care." — Erin Reed  And now its back to America, 'surprise, surprise.'

Hi @Sol. Great to hear from you and your updates are all encouraging. Wonderful all the support you're now getting from your family and to hear you sounding so positive and hopeful. Career as an archivist sounds like a great path - sensible and not too specific, but endlessly fascinating at the same time. Not only do museums employ archivists, but so do many other institutions such as historical societies and universities. Your university may have its own archives which you could visit and learn about. Take care & be well!

Hi @KathyLauren no worries!   I’ve only ever gotten a two-year degree in programming, and that one was just because I existed in the U.S. Air Force as a coder long enough to qualify for all of the technical credits, then I just took CLEP and DANTES tests to get the rest.   Most of my work has been in the security arena, lots of C/C++. Worked as a Red Hat hacker for a few years, and spent a few more years in gov’t spaces.

Hi, Amanda.  Your story sounds quite familiar, though my pesky body part didn't need the attention of a urologist.  You are in good company here!
