Sweet Girlfriends,

I had a wonderful Saturday. The morning was spent like normal, doing all my shopping and errands, as myself, of course. The afternoon was a delight.

I invited a girlfriend to come with me and we got makeovers from a Mary Kay professional. I bought some new eyeshadow and now have another cool look. It took several hours and we went through the whole skin care regimen and everything. What fun! A true girl delight.

Then I did a little shopping and saw a few more girlfriends at the stores I visited.

Off to the nail salon, one of my favorite places. I'm a regular, I engage all the women there and we have fun. They look forward to seeing me and always greet me warmly.

When I walked in, the place was packed and there weren't even any waiting chairs to use. I was greeted and they asked what I wanted. I told them a pedicure and picked out my polish. As soon as I'd chosen it, they motioned me to a pedi chair, ahead of all the other customers. I was a little uneasy about this, but went anyway. They put my feet into the little warm foot jacuzzi and I was set for a while. wow.

After the pedi, I asked for a set of acrylic nails, my first set ever. I got a set done that are just past the tips of my fingers and shaped like my natural fingernails. The polish matches my toes and I got a little flower design on each ring finger nail. They look divine and really finish out my look.

Several women have since told me that this is the perfect length to start with and get used to having them. They look like natural nails at a glance without polish on them. I had to take the polish off to go to work today, but I'm keeping the nails.

This is very helpful to train me to proper female use of the hands and gestures. I've changed a lot, already.

I love being a girl!!!!!!!

Love,

Becky

Hi Becky

Congratulations on those nails! You'll love them. They don't break like natural nails and they don't need to be shaped all the time to look good. I learned to fill and do my own eventually-back in the female mode days-but the feeling of pampering when you get them done would be a big plus when you actually are a girl wouldn't it?:D

Beauty supply places carry little flowers and other decorations for your nails so you can have that special look at home whenever tou want.

What a great day you had there Becky. I am so happy that you had a wonderful day of shopping and getting pampered.

Acrylics are on my to do list. I just thought they would look fake and I dont want to do that. Let me know if anyone can notice the difference please.

Hi Becky,

Thank you so much for sharing this with us! Wow! VIP treatment. That is really nice. Well, you deserve it!

I am finding to my pleasant surprise that despite this being a mostly rural area, the natal women that I have come out to are very warm and supportive, even enthusiastic about wanting to help. In some cases I had pre-introductions, others that was not the case.

These experiences really help to reaffirm what we feel and know about ourselves. Why not have a little fun in the process!

Becky - so good. I have had the manicures but as I work male mode still - I hesitate on the gels. But Donna Jean in male mode at work (which thankfully is now a thing of the past for her) would use the day-to-day wear press-on nails. She seemed to get away with it pretty well, but I am still afraid to try it.

But I look down at my hands now - and my nails are longer than a man would wear, rounded, and with a coat of hardner polish - which has a shine. And OMG - I have on my turquoise and my silver filligre woman's rings! I sometimes forget to take them off - so who am I fooling?

Nails are an interesting womanly thing - their care and maintenance is constant. And it becomes a tragedy if you break one! Like Becky says, we are changing so much. And we slowly learn how to redirect the use of our hands to protect our nails. Now I know why women gesture with their hands so much and use a dainty touch - proud of those hands.

And the make-overs? If you are in a largr city, you can get those done at those department store cosmetic counters - I have never been turned down, but I try to go when there isn't much traffic - and the girls (guy once) treat me like any other woman, either mode. (Secret? I have a credit card! hee hee) They just want to sell product. BUT the best part? They show you how to apply make-up! Ask for different looks. Start at your first make-over with the casual shopping day look. Another make-over can be for dining out at night. Finally, when you want the works - go for the 'glamour' look. WOW

FUN

And yes - natal women seem to watch for a few minutes, and decide we are really women at heart - and welcome us to the club!

Becky, such a happy post on an otherwise gloomy (don't ask) morning. I do love reading about your

adventures.

Yes, a pedicure is on my to-do list, and now that I have a friend at the salon it will be as easy

as your experience.

I haven't given much thought to acrylic nails, but they do sound nice. I'll have to check it out.

Isn't being a girl great? Of course I say that on days when everything is going right. lol :)

Pedicures are something I've just started doing this year and they're great! I love them.

Acrylics are something I've been thinking about doing but I've been putting it off until I'm employed again and therefore can afford to get them and get them filled on regular intervals. I was going to suggest getting square tips because I read online they don't break as often as naturally-shaped nails but it sounds like you're not in a position to have them shaped like that. :(

Anyway, enjoy your female pampering indulges! I know I do.

I want to hold back on this one until more solid information comes out.  The defendant is claiming it was accidental, but the Trans side is demanding a hate crime scenario which an accident would preclude.  Pardon the phrase, but as I read this folks are jumping the gun here.

Well, here's the big questions:  What does it mean to be masculine?  What does it mean to be a woman?    I've been around a lot of rule-bending in those areas.  There's all sorts of "traditional" views about what men and women do.  Men work on mechanical things, defend/protect, earn a living, play rough sports, etc.  Women cook and clean, are gentle and nurturing, value aesthetics over function, etc.   Yet, my very "masculine" industrial-manager husband cooks just as well as any Betty Crocker wannabe, and tells the bedtime stories that are most in-demand by the kids.  My GF, who is surely "ALL Girl" is a highly skilled mechanic, a street racer, was busily laying concrete while 6 months pregnant, and practices kenjutsu (Japanese sword fighting skills).  And me?  I'm AFAB but I'm infertile and I feel like I should have had a male body...yet I possess very little in the way of "manly" skills or desire to acquire them.  I'm in my boy form these days, but pretty much useless for accomplishing "boy stuff."     I think my family blew those definitions out of the water.  Yet, somehow our family structure is also religiously patriarchal....and happily so!  It'll bend your brain to try to figure that one out.    I'd say its just important to be you, do what you do best, and stick your tongue out at anybody who doesn't like it.

Welcome to the board gizgizgizzie! I sure can understand what dysphoria feels like. I found it stayed in my head during nearly all waking hours. Although, sometimes held in a little deeper. But it was triggered easily. I hope you can find that place you feel comfortable with yourself. This is a good place to find help as you traverse your journey.   Jennifer

hi everyone, my name is giz (or gizzie), i use all prns but i prefer they/it and i just found out abt this place pretty recently !! im really excited to find community among other trans people from so many walks of life !! in my personal life, i do have trans/queer friends but its not easy to navigate that without coming out all willy nilly (and i can't come out to my family, pretty much ever) so this is a pretty good place for me to get to know people and make new friends !!   i also have this weird dysphoria issue that i feel like everyone (and society at large lol) is attaching me to categories and boxes that don't really fit me (obviously this is to do with my agab) so being here without that presentation is also really helpful !!   i also hope to be able to start and share my transitions goals and things like that (just getting my body to a more androgynous look) !!   thanks for reading, and i hope to see more of y'all soon !!

Well, my friends are out publicly. Openly transgender, and on HRT.  I agree that the survival of all of us is at stake.  But I think there are threats greater and more dangerous than those faced exclusively by LGBTQ folks.   Rising prices. Unaffordable food.  EPA strangling transportation and energy.  Needless foreign wars that put us at risk of literal nuclear annihilation.  A government that wants to tax us, track us, and control every aspect of our lives...including using us as guinea pigs for their medical experiments.     Trump is no savior.  Neither is the Republican party.  But I believe that a vote for Democrats in the federal government is for sure a vote for globalism and what follows it.  War, famine, plague, slavery, and death don't care if we're trans or cis.

People who are out publicly, and openly transgender, maybe on HRT, having changed names and gender, have a lot to lose if anti-trans politicians take power.  They have openly called for our eradication, and promise to do everything they can to accomplish this.  (again, 2025) For someone in this position the election is about our survival.  It's foolish to delude ourselves into thinking "Oh, they don't really mean that.  It's all for show," or, "There's other more important things to concern ourselves with." Maybe for some people the other things take priority.  But if you have skin in the game, things look different.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
If that happens, a lot of things I don't want to see might also be codified into law.  And some things that shouldn't be law might not get repealed.  To me, progress in one area isn't worth the price we'd have to pay in several other areas.     For me, voting on LGBTQ issues always ends up as an "out of the frying pan, but into the fire" sort of event.

Thea, your post made me think of a comic named Chloe Petts whom I saw recently on Hannah Gadsby's Gender Agenda comedy special on Netflix. She is a cisgender masculine lesbian. She is brilliant and so funny. I was intrigued by her identification - specifically masculine, not butch. And it seems to me there is a difference.

Today I had a dr appt. When I checked in, I was asked my surname, which I gave. Apparently there were two patients with appointments at that time with that same surname. The receptionist asked, "Are you (my legal name which is feminine) or Paul?" I got such a kick out of it not being assumed I had the feminine name.
