Where Are Our Veterans Hiding ?

Recommended Posts

Alyssa,

After seeing my Psychologist for a few years for severe PTSD I finally came out to him in 2014. He is bound by his profession to not reveal what we talk about, but I'm not worried since he has been fantastic.....He has even gone so far as to study transgenderism, and can now actually qualify to be a GT.

He literally has kept me on this planet. So you might want to keep that in mind.

I can't say that much for my PCP or any other help i.e. endocrine, blood monitoring, and so on from the VA. They have since told me that they are just not equipped to help me properly. I live just outside of Houston, and they have really dropped the ball as fas as my physical health. But like I said the mental health support has been phenomenal.

LesleyAnne,

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate the information. I only just recently found out at a trans-social event in Austin that the VA even did anything at all concerning this. I really didn't think they did. Still, living in the Ft. Hood area, I have a real hard time being honest with anyone up here. Just yesterday I was at my VA doctor's appointment, the usual 6 month deal, and the nurse was going on about all the "God-less" things in this country now. . . That pretty much made up my mind that I wouldn't say anything to my doctor. I think she would be far more understanding, but it is pretty scary at that big hospital up in Temple.

Anyway, thank you so much for talking with me. It is pretty lonely up here.

Alyssa

I served from 74-94 in the army. I did 3 tours in Germany and the rest of the time at Fort Bliss TX. I did not deploy during the gulf war, I was considered mission critical because I was an instructor in the air defense field.

05-14 Just over 9 years Navy. Was medically retired for mental health issues as an LSC (Really I was an SKC but that isnt the right name anymore...)

Destroyer life was where I was, did the boarding teams, fire fighting and all the other fun Navy games. Three rounds to the Persian Gulf and thankfully every time was uneventfully for the large part.

Still in Norfolk area for now, are there any other vets in this area? Would love to chat locally a little for some freindship and support.

Hi,

I am a US Navy veteran from 2003-2007. I had come out to my command as lesbian just before I got out of my active duty status. However, I've recently been considering the possibility of being transgender. I'm not entirely sure my girlfriend will be entirely receptive to the idea. I have the support of most of my friends and I mentioned it to my mother, who I'm very close with, and she was unsure about it all. Any tips or pointers would be much appreciated. Just as a side note, I'm far away from my family and don't have too many friends in my area. I'm currently living off of the GI Bill and going to school full-time. I'm really not sure what to do at this point. Part of me wants to start "T" asap, and the other part of me is still trying to figure out my plan before I get in too deep.

wow! That is a rough one, the gi bill is nice but I imagine it is a stretch in VB! I live in south chesapeake and I know what you mean about being away from everyone. My family is out of the country so its very quiet here. I haven't yet told my family, thats too scary yet, but I am working my way there. My girlfriend was very accepting though she is concerned how she will react if I choose to use hrt. If you ever want to chat over coffee shout out. I am lost, but company is offered! :)

Welcome to Laura's Jenifer. You might want to post in the introduction forum as well.

Thank you for your service. I managed to avoid the service during Vietnam. At the time i was a hippie and felt we were doing the wrong thing. Too many of my friends came back very damaged. I have only respect for those who did serve.

Glad you are here with us.

Your not alone.

Hugs,

Charlize

I served in the US Air Force from 1982-1992. I spent part of that time at Wright-Patterson AFB OH working in the B-1B engine program, and in bomber/tanker upgrades. The remainder was at Barksdale AFB LA in SAC logistics plans, working on plans to repair, rearm, and refuel bombers returning from a nuclear strike on the Soviet Union, so they could be sent back for a second strike. I was separated in 1992 as an O-3 as a result of the reduction-in-force at the end of the cold war.

I am very glad to have found this place, and quite amazed at the number of vets I see here. To all those who have posted here before me, thank you for your service!

So, I am curious. Is the Governor going to mandate vaginal or penile recognition photos before one enters the restroom? Considering the Governor has no balls to do the right thing, will he have to pee against a tree outside? Inquiring minds would like to know. I love it when the job recruiters contact me about the wonderful jobs available in Oklahoma. It is so much fun telling them there is no way I will ever go to Oklahoma. When there are no workers, then they can shutter the place.

Ngl, probably Sonic the Hedgehog, the Beatles, or the Monkees. Those are the three subjects I know the most about so I could drop hours of info on them.

Thank you! I'm out of coffee so I have been drinking hot tea instead. Looking forward to the 1st. It's crazy that we are almost in May. This year has flown by really quick! Good to hear that y'all got to sleep in. Hope you have a good weekend too!

It's nice to care about others but you need to live your life as you please. No one be your only source of happiness. Love yourself and don't look back. I lost over 40 family members it hurts but apparently, they didn't truly love me. True love will always be there through the thick and thin. I can honestly say that HRT has made me think in ways that I never thought I would. I get myself some shoes or clothes every month because retail therapy not only helps but it is a reward to myself to show love. I have over 100 dresses. I have a whole walk-in-closet full of clothes and 67 pairs of shoes. I love who I am. I was born in 84 so not all people in the 80's think that way. As far as the name just take your time and be happy with it. I knew I loved the name Ashley. Take care and welcome!

Congratulations Sam,   The common saying her once someone starts HRT is: “Enjoy the ride.”   Best wishes, stay positive and motivated    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

WOW @Ashley0616 it’s good that you have skills to treat traumatic injuries, as well as the ability to remain calm while managing others needs to get yourself and the boys ready to go to the hospital. Proud mama bear skills. I’m glad that he’s doing well.    Meanwhile back at the ranch, we slept in and I’m just now finishing my 3rd cup of coffee.    Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well yesterday was not fun. I was getting ready to make dinner and I hear screaming and crying. I look over and my son put his foot through glass. He gashed near his Achilles tendon. Thankfully that is intact. I didn't freeze for a second. All of my military training came into play. I doctored him up and got Jett ready and myself and we headed to the ER. He is doing ok today. He says he is in pain but doesn't need Tylenol. He is a tough cookie!

Hi,   It's seems today is my trans birthday.  I'm beyond excited. Just picked up my testogel from the pharmacy. Although I naturally have doubts as I'm sure do we all, they are rapidly disappearing. Yesterday I was so nervous I kept claiming I'm not trans, despite grinning like a fool knowing I can pick up my prescription the next day. I'm shaking and on the verge of happy tears. I will put on my first sachet this eve. Thanks so much to this forum and kind words from people. This is the first forum I found when I began seriously questioning.

While the Soviet Union did not end up being the source of all evil, I believe that history has shown that Joe McCarthy generally was right. There ARE all kinds of Marxists slithering around. And if that had been dealt with firmly 75 years ago (or more) the nation wouldn't be in the shape that it's in now.    And while I generally oppose the idea of intervening in foreign affairs, the world probably would have been better off if we had taken care of issues in Russia and defeated the Bolshevik Menace back in 1919. God bless the memory of Admiral Kolchak.   Getting back to project 2025, my belief is that Republican efforts are inappropriately focused on trans folks. A minority of a minority does not wreck a nation. But it is easier to focus on trans folks because they can look like they're doing something. They don't have to address the real problems, and really they don't want to address them because they would have to address themselves.  They would also need to admit that the 50 State version of the USA cannot be saved.
