Body Waxing

I'm getting so tired of all this hair everywhere on my body. It is one of the things that causes me the most issues. I just looked into body waxing, and to do everything from the neck down would cost $305 every 4-5 weeks. I'm not sure I can convince my wife to go for it. I cant use a regular razor on my body or arms as the skin is too sensitive. The leg hair is really thick in the upper thigh area which is also extremely sensitive. I can use my electric razor, but that still leaves a little stubble, which is unacceptable, especially on the arms where people can see, or the inner thighs where they can rub. I want to start on HRT so it can start to grow back in finer and make this easier, but my wife isn't quite ready for that, and from what i know, that would take a while to really really make a difference. So, any thoughts on what I should do?

Hi Monika,

I really understand where you are coming from. I have started using an epilator on my arms and legs, and have used Nair other places. Have just purchased some home waxing products and applicators, but have not yet gotten around to actual use. I really need to make time.

Hope some of the others chime in with what they recommend!

Huggs,

Opal

Hi Monika,

I use a epilator works great.it does hurt till you are use to it. I also wax which is kinda messy but works good and can be had at wally world for around $12.00 for a kit.

Hmmm, i have an epilator, but it didn't seem to really work. It was an emjoy prestige, has anyone had experience with it? Maybe I'm just using it wrong. Oh, and I had a bad break out where I used it. Is that normal? Ive heard to get the best one you can afford, and this was all I could find locally. I'm not opposed to buying one online, if I know what is going to really work.

I've used nair before, but I always seem to leave it on too long and get chemical burns from it. Have you tried Veet? I think that's what it is called anyway. Is it any gentler?

Me and home waxing don't get along. The last time I used it, I ended up taking a patch of skin off. My wife made me promise to never do it again.

Waxing at home is really not that difficult, if you can find a willing assistant for those hard to reach places, and after a few times, it doesn't even hurt much, and what does hurt is the pulling on the skin, not the hair removal itself. I recently started using Nair's new roll on wax(Link), and I have to say, I'm impressed. It works great, and the best part is that the strips wash right off in warm water and they're re-usable, so it's fairly inexpensive. There's approximately enough in one container for a full body wax, depending on your size and where you are hairy (I don't have to worry about my back, so it's enough for me.) The only issue I had with it, was that I can only do so much at a time because there's only 10 strips that come with it. However, what I did to make up for that, is I bought two, and I used two sets of strips. It's still not enough to do a full body, but I certainly make a lot more progress that way.

It's a heck of a lot cheaper, that's for sure.

I would love to get an epilator. The one I want, though, is the braun silk epil, but I haven't been able to find one for purchase locally. I spoke to my mom about it though, and she said she'd put it on her credit card for me so I can order it online, if I give her the money. By far the cheapest method of hair removal in the long run, if you get one that works well and you take good care of it.

I started with electric epilation, then waxing, and settled for shaving instead. With both epilation & waxing I got red bumbs that lasted until the next month. So for me there was no benefit, only incredible pain as I had much leg hair. Shaving doesn't give me as much bumbs, so I settled for it. Veet would work too, the least painful and better than shaving.

Just goes to show you how different everybody's experiences can be. I find shaving gives me the worst bumps (from ingrown hairs), and I definitely find the most discomfort from shaving and depilatory creams. Most times I don't even get bumps that last longer than a few hours from waxing.

I just saw the brqun silk epil at Target on sale. I almost picked it up, but I'm not sure how it compares to the Optimal.

I get bumps from shaving too. I use my electric on my body now, and while it works okay, I need something better. I did pick up some Veet though, so we'll see how well that works.

Ah, the razor burn. I used to get that all the time. I find using a quality women's razor helps on arms and legs, but also gradually your skin will get used to it. HRT helps reduce a lot of the bulk of the hair too, so you'll find yourself shaving much less often which helps enormisly.

That's what I say, too...

21 months on HRT and I touch up about once a week in the shower with a razor...it now grows slow and fine...

If you do a little research, you'll see that the Silk Epil gets the best reviews of any epilator. And it has several models to choose from. Cordless, corded, ones you can get wet, etc. Even the simplest model gets great reviews. I researched them for hours one night, and it's the hands-down winner.

I had a job 18 months ago (for a short period of time) at which I was told I was to use either a single stall bathroom or ladies room. Worked for me. I don't remember the last time I used a men's room, other than a single stall when the ladies room was closed for repair.

One of my dear supportive friends trotted out the term "manscapping" when I shared with her about how, impulsively and desperately, I'd shaved my arms and legs for the first time (this was about a month ago. I can't see ever going back to the hairy limbs.)   I'm like, "Hmmm. Actually I read a Wirecutter article on the best women's razors and per their recommendation, I went with the classic Venus 3 blade. And also found some useful articles in "Mens Health" (of all places) on the best ways for men to remove hair from various parts of the body.

Right now it would be simply knowing who I am, and the resulting confidence I have in who I am. As an additional result, I now have a number of close friends who will give me a boost when I need one.

My ex- wife and i have four adopted children, and have maintained relationships with their respective biological families. Sixteen years ago, my youngest child's first Christmas, and his grandparents came over Christmas Eve. Grandpa was dressed as Santa, and when he rang the doorbell, we had had our oldest, 5 years old, answer the door. Two 5 year olds and one 3 year old just about lost their minds.    It's a good thing I can remember that. I have no memories whatsoever of my Christmases growing up. Good thing. Don't need any of that piled onto my ancient memories.

I've come to the conclusion that normal is a concept best left as a control on the washing machine.  It seemingly rarely truly exists in this world.   I do my best to simply let the fact that i wasn't born with a woman's body simply slide away.  I am what i am and accept it.  My wife once complained that i had never had a period or given birth.  I looked cat her with a smile and mentioned how cute and perky my breasts were in my 70's.   I don't have to be biological to be real.   Hugs,   Charlize

Thank you so much for sharing this, Allie!   My favorite quote: "People are under no obligation to make sense to you."   @MaeBe I started to tear up when he said that these poor kids are being treated like perverts and freaks just because they're trying to exist.    -Timi

Exactly. Seems a common theme. Cis people just have so much difficulty wrapping their heads around how all-consuming gender dysphoria can be and how it affects practically every aspect of our lives.

YES!!!    I'm trying to grapple with a conversation a very dear and supportive cis woman had earlier this week where she felt it necessary to "educate" my on what natal cis women experience in this world, as I if I had never thought about it and was drifting in some sort of pink cotton candy fantasy.    It just hit home to me days later that she just doesn't know or can't imagine what it's like to be me. That I've thought of my unwanted dilemma from every angle possible for every day of my life, including those long stretches of life where my sustaining practices were denial, avoidance, conformance, and when all else failed, some sort of mind-numbing substance use or abuse.    Sorry for the overflow of words and emotions. What you wrote. Yes. I don't need to be "reminded" either.    Thank you @awkward-yet-sweet   -Timi

Hi @Rishaya. Thanks for writing on this thread--it's been a long time since. It's good to take stock and see the progress I've made these last three years. It's not so much as to "figure out" my past or even to "understand" it, but merely to accept it and move ahead. Just to read all the stories of folks here tells me that Transgender is a very wide tent and that I'm glad to be under it. My father's family lived in Utica and then Rochester, so I know a bit of that country, I accept it anyway. —Davie

T shirts that are marketed as unisex or men's don't fit me. They ride up my hips!  I can avoid the problem in two ways. Buying a couple sizes too big, or simply buying women's T's (I'm wearing one now).    My T's from Torrid are cut different and of different material. They just don't ride up my curves.

Good morning everyone!!! 3 cups of coffee into the day and feeling good!! I have a few small projects to work on around the house so that should keep me busy and out of trouble. 😄   Enjoy the day!!!! 💕🌈

Please don't judge me......but I actually bought one a few years back.😱     I used a Norelco to trim myself down there for years and needed to replace it so I tried the Man-scape. I wouldn't trust it everywhere, though. Actually, I began shaving that area completely several years ago with a razor.   I put a new set of blades on the Man-scape and use it to trim my eyebrows, now. 🙃😁🌈   I'm so embarrassed.
