Hello,

You can call me Mrs. T. I'm a mom of three beautiful boys. My third child was born 3 weeks ago. His name is Joseph. When Joe was born we were told he had Ambiguous Genitalia (Hypospadious). For five months we thought we were having a baby girl. You can imagine how surprised we were when the doctor said I think she has testicles. This has been a very different experience for us. My job as my little blessings mom is to find as much accurate information as possible so I may prepare for our journey ahead. I'm not sure what the future holds. We have had many test done to find out as much as possible about Joe's gender. It appears that he is all boy internally. However, externally things are not defined . I want to be opened minded and allow my son to understand himself as much as possible. Others have stated that he may not be all boy in is mind? To be honest he has not told me yet, what he is thinking. LOL! Maybe my questions are premature but, I want to treat this with knowledge and understanding as he grows. Please pardon any ignorance I may have on the topic , this is my first experience. So I come here searching for answers. I come here to listen to others stories . I come here to support no matter how different or normal my son may be.

:P

Hi Mrs. T,

Welcome to Laura's Playground. Thank you for sharing with us about little Joseph. You have legitamate concerns but I wouldn't rush to any quick judgment. If you were to have him surgically altered at this tender age, it could very well be a tragic mistake. I would wait a few years and see how he develops. You'll know soon enough whether he shows girl or boy tendencies. As soon as he lets you know what sex he is, then you can have surgery performed to bring him in line with his true sex. Hope this helps. Good luck.

You're not alone as far as being a parent of an intersexed child. Still yet, I'm sure the child will greatly appreciate it if you can give him a part in deciding. Take your time, and hope you learn a lot in the forums :)

Hello, you sound like a great mom. You do have some legimate concerns and it's great that you're taking such time to understand your son. It's very possible he may be very happy as a little boy, and it's also possible he may be more androgynous in how he see himself but happy with a boy body, or he may be a little girl in a boy body. At this time, it's hard to tell what the future holds, but like MaryEllen mentioned, whether your child has a boy or girl gender and tendencies should become apparent with a little time. Your son should instinctually know (and therefore demonstrate that he knows on some level if in any way he's unhappy with his physical sex) one way or another in a few years. :)

Your baby is very cute. I think he has very intelligent eyes.

Welcome to the forums Mrs. T and I must say your baby is so cute. Although I am no expert when it comes to this I believe you should not do anything surgically to him until you are certain of your son's gender. It's great to meet a wonderful mother like you:)

Accidents happen.  So do heat-of-the-moment murders, without premeditation or trans-related hate.  It will take a trial to really figure it out.     One thing we can see from this is that it is people in our circles of acquaintances, friends, and partners who are the ones who usually hurt us.  Not someone random. We have to be careful who we trust.

Friday May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against HOmophobia, BIphobia and Transphobia).   Do you acknowledge or celebrate it? Do you do anything special for it, like taking part in any organized events or activities?   I'm not an activist and I prefer to fly under the radar, but I am slowly becoming aware of important dates. I have been aware of the date of IDAHOBIT for a few weeks now, but other important 'rainbow' dates have not been etched into my brain yet.    I will wear my favorite pride t-shirt as a token acknowledgement of the day, but it probably won't be seen; cool weather here will mean that it will be hidden under a sweater.

Happiness for me comes from being cognizant of the things that make me feel good.   Sunshine.   Pandering to my inner woman.   Knowing that some people in my life really 'know' me.   Vacations, and Eggs Benedict at an alfresco cafe.   My wife and I being telepathic.   Grandchildren.   Music.   Wine!

True.  Every trans death is not a hate crime. There is so much hate expressed by some people, that we kinda get to expect it.

happiness to me is being ME. At all times, and it has yet to happen.

Hello & welcome, giz! Your post makes me remember how excited I was to join here too. I also had queer friends at the time I joined, but any of my trans friends lived a long distance away. So most local queer friends are gay & I felt uncomfortable coming out to them bc I couldn't assume they'd understand genderqueerness. So it was a thrill to join here and immediately have access to do many wonderful, genuine, kind & thoughtful friends-to-be.   Are you saying you're concerned that if you come out to your queer friends that somehow your parents will find out?     My love, I just want to affirm that that's not a weird dysphoria. It's just dysphoria. And we definitely get it. You're in good company here!     Look forward to seeing you around here & getting to know you. I shoot for androgynous appearance as well, leaning towards masculine.   Hope you're having a splendid day!

Listening to a YouTube mix for me and this song came up and I immediately fell in love again and just want to play music with like minded musicians playing OUR music and feel the joy and fulfillment even if no one else gets it. I love to fall into the music....

Funny.....   The day-centre transportation director told me yesterday morning that I was to receive an award, my picture on the website, etc... for having won the billiards tournament (I knew better).   Later that afternoon he returns to "shake my hand" and tell me, "thanks for participating."   I could have told him that was all I would receive earlier. I'm not well liked by management.
