How Do I Sound?

Guest ~Ellie~

Recommended Posts

I've been practising for several months now; vigorously at first, but now not so much - I do speak at a compromise when out and about and am slowly making my default voice more natural as I become more comfortable being myself around others.

How do I sound? What things could you recommend I do to improve?

I could not decide on a sample to post because I'm a perfectionist, so I'll just send you a random one, they're all similar anyway :P

Wow....

I'll give you an "A+" on that ...you sound VERY good...totally passable....

But you need to get rid of the weird accent....

I agree with Dee Jay in that you pass no problem. The accent thing though will be hard to do considering that is your normal accent. I think you are good to go with this voice.

Haha, thank you very much! :)

I don't notice any odd accent, so that would have to be my regular one - otherwise how I spoke might have been that I was nervous, or just rambling. I'm curious as to what my accent sound like to you, lol.

For only a couple months practicing you are doing real good, i did notice that your pitch seemed to drop at times, with more practice and awareness that will correct itself.

One of the best Aussie accents I have heard, you've got that accent down pat for sure. You will certainly pass as Australian. Oh you meant the female voice thng, well yes you do sound quite female. Your voice didn't sound strained to me.

^ lol!

Thank you :) I do notice when my voice falls - i don't often speak in that higher range, that was one of my first recordings in which I found what it sounded like. practise practise practise. lol

Your resonance definitely sounds female. I agree that sometimes your pitch falls a little too much. Also to me it appears you need to work on your inflection a little more. Generally the you want to hold the long vowels a slight bit longer before saying the next syllable. For example I, be, say, you. Some words are naturally held longer like "not". IMO the best way to learn inflection is to listen to other women speak. You can pick up on the inflections they use. Still you are good in inflections. I don't want to make it sound that I am too critical.I try to listen to inflections all the time and still make many mistakes. It's hard when you have to think of a sentence while you are saying it instead of flowing naturally without thinking.

Still your voice sounds very feminine and I doubt too many people will notice unless they are working on their voice too.

I agree you sound very female. I personaly think as soon as you are more comfy using this voice the less it will bounce around. confidence plays alot. To an american used to hearing engish spoke a certain way in America yes you have an Ausie acent. Even here in the states you can usualy tell if someone is from the south or north from the way they pronouce things as well as New Jersey ,New York State even Maine have there own lingo. Examples being New Jersey will say wader insted of water...in Maine I as hearing lobsta insted of lobster..these are just some examples. In my opion a female Ausie acent is a very enjoyable to hear but this is just my opion.

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.

Hi Mae Be, whenever it comes to makeup, there are so many different bands to choose from. Picking out the right makeup comes with trial and error, until you find one that works for you and blends well with your skin tone, some makeup products can leave the skin feeling oily. It's a good idea to look at the labels on the makeup product to know what the creators put in the makeup, just in case skin allergies. Once you found the makeup brand, you can add it to your shopping list, good luck

To be fair I’m pretty lost when it comes to makeup technique. I’ve watched videos, but I have no idea what works for or would help my features. So I just bungle along, hoping I don’t look terrible.
