For those who haven't taken it, here it is:

http://www.transsexual.org/TEST0.html

The first time I took it a few weeks ago I scored 23, which put me in the transgenderist category. I felt that there was something wrong and so I did it again and this time I was more careful and tried to be completely honest. The male side in us out of ego-defense sometimes wants to pick a more macho/stronger answer than what we know to be true. This time I got 155, which puts me in category 4 'probable transsexual' (where most of us are, 5 is definite) and I knew it was right. Actually the score was much higher than I expected.

Although some of the test questions are obviously leading, most are designed to be probing/accurate. Its just nice to have a test confirm what you felt inside all along to be true. At the same time it reinforces the validity and requirement to transition. Feel free to take it and post your score and see if it matches with your own feelings. Though I realize many of you already know and are in transition. :)

I'd say you're a definite transsexual cause your score is so close to that cut-off. ;)

I took it a while ago. I just took it again and got a lower score

Does it match with what you feel yourself to be? Although I don't give it huge credence (mostly tells you what you know), its good to get an external confirmation for me.

I got the probable from ages ago... Still the same.

Like most of us, very few transsexuals get the 'definite' and I'm quite satisfied with my score.

hi sandra,

i'm not sure if we can put much stock on these tests but i recieved a score of 375. i'll follow their recommendations although going to a professinal is not within my budgit at this time. here's a little of what they say.

Keep in mind, thought, that many alternatives exist other than complete sexual transformation. Partial transformation and many other way of existing are available. While you are very possibly a transsexual, COGIATI has determined that this is not absolutely certain.

however, i don't agree with this statement. i heard of grs when i was a teenager. that has always given me hope. it was like, wow, i can have a female body. being poor all my life has prevented me from taking action. i did wear woman's clothes everyday and slept in nightgowns everynight before my accident. having to work around what i would consider dangerous people prevented me from coming out. i had to eat and put a roof over my head. i did live 24/7 for two weeks and had the happiest and most fullfilling two weeks of my life. :D i have come to realise that i need to do something about my condidtion and you have to start somewhere, so here i am.

hi, i wanted to add a few thought on this. on my last reply i had just awoke from a nap and my head was still foggy. now, the results say i show a strong degree of gender dysphoria. i'm among the majority of those diagnosed as transsexuals, the 'late onset' tanssexual. am i to understand that i didn't know i wanted to be a girl until later in life??? isn't that what late onset means? if that's the case then i can't agree with that, since i've known this since i was a child. shouldn't that be an early onset transsexual? or am i interpeting this wrong? yes, i need to see a therapist. that was one of the recommedations. how seriously should we take a test like this. i'm assuming we should accept the results with a grain of salt. seeing my result's only verified what i've known all my life. thanks for that link sandra. that was interesting.

Folks I would take such tests with a grain of salt. It is impossible to design a test without some kind of bias in it and this one.... well it has a lot. And many of us wanting a certain result recognize that and answer accordingly.

Never, never, never allow ANY test to determine who you are. Listen to your heart. Be you (and not a stereotype).

This message is brought to you from some one that's been there, done that. Even got the t-shirt!

Transition is about becoming the real you and not somebody elses idea of what that should be. After all haven't you already been fighting that battle (pleasing others) long enough? Do what pleases YOU.

Agreed Sheila and Leah, the test shouldn't be used as some kind of definitive answer to one's question on their gender identity. However some individuals are less certain/more confused and something like this can assist in organizing and clarifying their thoughts. I'll use myself as an example. When it finally dawned on me that I really am a woman on the inside, part of me was in deep denial and didn't want to accept what I know to be true. I think that would explain the dramatic change in my score with the two attempts. The first time around I was answering half-heartedly and partly out of fear of knowing the truth and not willing to face it, because let's face it-transitioning is one of the most difficult things to do and it can wind up leaving you worse off in some cases (while others get lucky). The second time around I let go of my fear and male ego-defense and got an answer that was much closer to what I know inside, so it was reassuring.

Yes the Cogiati has flaws and biases but it can be a useful tool to help some people sort out their self-denial/confusion. Of course intuitively, I've known for a while this is who I really am, from how I feel, my fantasies, the way I relate with others and so forth. I'll be honest transitioning doesn't worry me so much-its the final results. For every great transition I've seen a failure but I tend to be more scrutinizing than most. Nonetheless I'm willing to take my chances because I want this bad. :)

I never knew of the test till after I had come to grips with my true feelings. When i took it it was just to see what it said, as i had already accepted myself as a transsexual. So it was just for fun.

Well I scored a 150 being as honest as i could be.

I wish the internet had been around 30 years ago, The support back then was none at all I know my life would be much different.

I feel being 50 plus is a little late to make any major life changes.

I personaly feel it is never too late if it is what you feel in your hart that you need to be truely happy in your life.

Indeed, I believe most of us already had decided this is what we are before finding further confirmation.

I have similar regrets, I wish I considered it much sooner but I too busy in university and later my job to really explore it further (I'm 35 now). I agree it is a major change, in some cases one has to leave one's family/friends/career for becoming our true self. The results can also be disappointing in some cases, so it makes one wonder if the sacrifice is worth it at all. Its for this and a few other major reasons I'm reluctant.

However if one is willing to make radical changes, then it is doable. Keep in mind people at your age had done it and been quite happy for finally transitioning.

COGIATI classification FOUR, PROBABLE TRANSSEXUAL"

The link that started this thread is only one way to get to the test. The author Jennifer Diane Reitz offers a more detailed explanation here of http://transsexual.org/cogiati_english.html what the COGIATI test can or cannot do. It is not intended to replace Counseling by a qualified therapist nor is it considered scientific. I do think that the test is a great effort and provides some insight. Few others could do a better job. As you can see she has been hoping for some time that a professional would take the test and improve on it to make it more scientific. She points out herself that the test has flaws. Thus far she has had no takers. I agree that you should take the test with a grain of salt. Meanwhile listen to what your heart tells you.

You can see the rest of Jennifer's great site on Transsexuality here: http://transsexual.org/ .

I took that test in October of last year, at the point when I was, for the first time really, trying very hard to understand and accept all of this. I got a 140 at the time. I remember reading the result with little surprise. I took it again tonight, just to see, and I got a result of 295. Its interesting to see the change, but it doesn't surprise me either. I am considerably less confused and resistant now than I was last October.

The test is sure to have its limitations, but I still think its interesting and does a decent job. I think the recommedation to get counseling is well placed. Its one of the things that eventually lead me to explore that, and I am glad I did.

Its a good thing there are sites out there like that one and this one. Having information available and contact with other people has made working things out a lot easier, for me and probably for a loooot of other people.

Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums @Madelyn Rain   I'm very late in life and in a slow transition. I'm out to my wife, grown children and my siblings, their support ranges from reluctant to total denial of my existence. Several are totally onboard with my transition. As for my medical and therapeutic care team... I'm out and started my conversation as they have known me from the start. Manly, just starting the transition. As I've proceeded along the transition trail, my mannerisms and speech have taken on a lighter tone. I have not started any real voice feminizing yet.    My recommendation is to just go in honestly and be your comfortable self.   Best wishes,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

It’s a “wedge issue”, used as a way of forcing other things quietly while making a big deal out of something that impassions others. Trans issues “stuck” when the Right threw all sorts of social strategies at the wall, it clicked with the base and now we’re here. Who doesn’t want to “protect the children”, right?   As far as fascism goes, we’re on our way with either party but it’s not a hard guess which party gets us all the way there the fastest. Frankly, I see the Left dogged by politics of conscience. The war in Israel, the status quo of Wall Street, the perpetual increase in the wealth divide, and what little is being done on the environmental front are all indicators of capitalism guiding policy and the voter base of the Left is not impressed.   The Right is dogged by (or been sold into) a persecution complex, religious or otherwise, and it has made them afraid and angry. But! A lot of the issues that cause that fear are very similar, if not the same, on the Left (see wealth divide, see Wall Street, etc.). Weaponized religion is a big difference between the voting blocks and it’s being used to create insidious identity politics. Politics like that are why the party of “freedom” wants to control who people are. Why? Because God said so.    As for the OP, everyone knows the far right agenda isn’t a grass roots cause. It’s not surprising that there is big money and croneyism at work. In fact, I’ll bet the average MAGA voter would cheer it on. Grab ‘em by the pus-pocketbook! They’re the little guys in this and they need those “few” people to do god’s work with their “hard-earned” wealth.

Hiya, I’m about to be going to my appointment to set up hrt. I have spoken with my dr about it briefly in the past, but stopped being part time and went into deep masking essentially… Now that I have decided to actually start transitioning medically I feel pressure to be a certain way which I know I shouldn’t. I searched to see if someone else had asked this question but didn’t see it posted, so sorry if it’s been asked.    Did you dress femme and or use a femme voice for your appointment to discuss starting hrt? I still feel so manly in the way I look, so I just feel so… awkward about it all. Like to mask or not to or idk uggh so unsure how to feel about it as I’m totes not ashamed of who I am but insecure about looking manly. I have a femme “baby face” but am not too tall but broad and more on the muscular side. Not saying these things take away from being a woman, just they are my insecurities.   thank you,   Madelyn Rain

This stuff gets complicated.  Capitalism replaced Feudalism…  You get enclosures, Highland clearances, the communal village culture disrupted.  Was it good?  Or was it bad?  Kinda depends on your point of view.   But I guess this is another topic.
    • Ivy
Seems like it.  But I think a lot of current "conservative" thinking is the idea of going back to earlier social mores and enforcing such. "Conservatives" seem fine with coercing others to conform to their ideals.
    • Ivy
I see the corporations controlling the government, largely through campaign contributions.   As for leftist, almost any cooperation has a socialistic component.  It doesn't need to be controlled by the government.  I see some elements of your own situation as socialist in a sense.  I suspect we have a different understanding of these things. Some people see "anarchism" as simply local control.  Radical left?  IDK.

The truth is that there's no unbiased media. Even if someone tries real hard to show both sides of the issue and remain unbiased in their presentation, their own opinions are bound to influence the piece in some way. That's simply writing, really, but it's a real pain when it comes to news of current events. It seems everyone takes one extreme or the other, and a lot of people don't even seem to be trying to hide their bias in the news nowadays. That's a problem regardless of political party.   Going completely in any one direction is a bad idea, really. The point of a two-party (or more, really) system is that multiple types of people are represented and have someone speaking up in a way they agree with. Both sides have both faults and virtues, and that's why there's both conservatives and liberals, as well as people who might be fluid between the two sides depending on the issue.     Eh, I have to politely disagree. Fascism would also mean a lot of control over things like media, and we have plenty of media outlets who will openly criticize the government based on who's in power. There's also other freedoms in our current system that would go against a Fascist philosophy. Plus, there's plenty of corporations that actively try to avoid government interventions like regulations via methods like labor outsourcing.    Also, kinda unrelated, but I've never gotten the idea of conservative support of anti-trans policy? I mean, that's more government control over healthcare, which seems kinda anti-conservative in philosophy. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but to my understanding of conservative philosophy, wouldn't the more truly conservative view be to leave it to offices themselves similar to how you would leave businesses to regulate what and how they provide a good/service?

And I suppose that NPR and CNN are "fair and balanced...."  I guess its all a matter of perspective, but here we literally listen to NPR as a comedy station.  As in, WHAT PLANET do these folks live on????  So much of what is presented seems totally nuts.    There's no shortage of big money funding the Left.  George Soros, Bill Gates, the Walton family....  If they support the "climate" agenda in any way - leftist.  If they support "gun control" in any way - leftist.  If they support UNESCO, anything else from the UN, electric vehicles, vaccination, funding public universities, etc....  you get the picture.  There's a heck of a lot of leftism going on if you just listen for the buzzwords on radio and tv.  And it seems like a large portion of big corporations are using those words.   What was the original idea of Fascism?  Corporations working hand-in-hand with a government that controls basically everything.  Doesn't seem too different from what is going on today, except that we have two parties involved.

The only reason I tried Tetris, was some of my younger kids had a gameboy I had younger coworkers playing packman when we took breaks at convenience stores.  I never could get into it.  I do remember the old pinball machines in the gas stations though

Everybody used to live that way, but not everybody is adapted to every climate.  I would be fine living like that, really.  My GF... well she'd be alive but I'm not sure about everybody around her.   If the house isn't super cold, she becomes difficult to deal with.  And the hotter it is outside, the colder she wants it inside.  Even the light bothers her, so she prefers areas without windows.  She'll work outdoors on projects, but when she's done sometimes she's bleeding from the corners of her eyes.  Her normal body temperature is also really cold.  For her, 95.7 to 96.2 is normal, and sometimes in the winter she can be as low as 92 while still appearing normal.  Arctic creature, I guess... Me, I'm fine with lower temperatures as long as I'm active.  But when I sleep, I get cold easily.
