When You Consider

I wrote this for my blog "Transformative Honeymoons" for this

Thanksgiving, the blog is a bit more "R" than "PG-13", and usually

I'm trying to be pretty irreverent, so I won't link it, but here's

the text to a caption, on the off chance someone finds it helpful:

When you consider the immensity of 14 Billion years,

the difference between one breath

and a hundred years of living is infinitesimal.

When you realize that a worthless rock lying on the ground

is made of atoms formed from the explosion of suns

on the other side of the galaxy,

and was deposited under seas full of unimaginable sea-monsters

in oceans that no longer exist, you have to ask yourself:

"If this is worthless, what is valuable?"

I remember when I was young, being outraged at the child being born,

taking a breath, a few short breaths, dying....

Why would God allow this?

When you consider the vast imponderables,

the almost absolute impossibility of the existence of Life

in any form, in any place, in this vast Universe,

that one breath, that handful of breaths, that is the Miracle.

That is Hard for me to accept, but it is True, and when I start

wondering "What the Hell do I have to be thankful for?"

I need to stop, take a breath, and start over

Dear Samantha,

I believe that our life is unique just like everyone else's ^_^

We have been given a wonderful gift called life

It is precious, surly it worth more than the rest of the whole universe

Life truly is a miracle, try and be thankful for the miracle of life

Dear Samantha,

well thank you, I hope you don't think I was being sad, I was trying to be poetic.

I'm fine -I'm just weird, I was weird as a guy, I'll wind up weird as a girl,

or a guy living as a girl or whatever I wind up as (hopefully not a purple cow).

It's cool -I'm used to it. To me, the point of the poem was that when I really

get frustrated (which I do), I need to step back and look at the real blessings

I have like being alive (which is a Miracle), being healthy, arguably being

relatively sane. So "Samantha dear, stop, take a breath and start over" is something

I've been telling myself, when I start digging a hole, and sometimes it works.
