This is mostly out of curiosity. If you came into a larger sum of money, say $5000, and it was to be used toward transitioning what would you use it for?

For me, srs isn't a major priority right now as I still have a long way to go until I reach a point where it is a possibility and I am more concerned with blending in. I would probably put it toward scalp advancement, or maybe as the start of savings for ffs.

Electrolysis, a new wig, and clothes, in that order. :)

I would definitely go for a face lift to get rid of the loose skin i have as a result of my weight loss, in fact after my GCS in May that will be next on the agenda, if i decide on BA it will be a few years after my GCS since i have heard from some post-op women that they gained a cup size after surgery.

hire a lawyer and get my name changed and see if they can work some magic for legal gender marker change too, and whatever is left over for hair removal

If your planning surgery of any type as far as transition, I would save it. Probably get it into a certificate of deposit so it can't be touched easily. Unless you have a good steady income source that lets you save big chunks of cash in the multiple thousands tend not to come by too often and depending on how good one's savings habits are it could mean a multiple years of accumulated savings.

Things that happen over time, if at all possible are best out of regular income as you earn it.

If there is no intent for a surgery, I would say therapy and facial hair.

Clothes are my biggest concern as of now. I would also use some of it for some very minor facial surgeries as well as set some aside for legal expenses.

$5000 wouldn't go far...but I'd start with hair removal, and probably the Orchi. I was thinking trachea shave, but I don't have a very prominent adams apple anyway, so that's sort of low on my list of things I absolutely have to get done.

Blindheart,

I feel your pain. I was born in TN (specific law against changing the gender marker for TS) :(

And I'll let you know on the $5K, as I believe I'm about to be in just that scenario in the next few weeks... I suspect hair removal will be first, and a few clothes. and a real jacket. trying not too buy too many since I am still losing weight 1-2 lbs a week. Even clothes (thankfully boys) that I bought last Oct/Nov are too big now (not that I've worn boy clothes in over 3 wks).

Use it for the getting on T process and save the rest for what I need after that. I will look like I'm melting by the time I'm back in shape and while a face lift doesn't appeal I want to undo some of that surplus I know I'll have. And I need a couple of repairs. Never cared enough to fix things as long as this was a female body.

Some men do care how they look. It's in my genes.

I'd probably save the $5,000 and invest it trying to get closer to SRS. I still go to my electrologist. It will just take longer.

If I found $5000, I would have some disaster occur that would cost exactly $5000.

It has been the pattern starting with my very first Christmas bonus - it was small and so was the exact same price that it cost to replace the tape deck that broke on the same day.

Actually I would put it aside for SRS because I am not planning to do anything else.

If I had 5000 Drop in my lap to be used for transitioning. I would put it towards laser and electrolysis, therapy, and maybe a nice wig or two for back up.

You know Sally as a glass half full view I think you are very lucky that you got what you needed to fix it just BEFORE something goes wrong. Maybe it isn't something taking your money but something waiting until you can fix it to break.

You are not a victim! You are a recipient.

Sally, why so negative, honey? This is a fun TOPIC - of COURSE you would be like any of us, having to spend it on a root canal or a pulmonary by-pass, but...

oh heck... its a fun game.

My orchi cost just short of $5K when all was said and done. (Money well spent by the way)

That is a good option for many of us older girls...

I've considered having one done. I'm not sure how far out SRS is for me, and would love to be able to reduce the amount of pills I take, not to mention I'm super paranoid of long term liver problems.

But I did find a surgeon who listed a rough price of $4500 to $6000 for the main FFS procedures I want done.

ah man thats a tough decision. 5k would just about cover my top surgery fees but on average its enough to get T for several years so....Gosh darned. id prolly wave it in my parents face and say "im putting all of this towards transitioning to male, thats how committed i am. if you still love me, please help me pay the rest." then again a full laproscopic hysto would be great.

Good news is that I have nothing serious going on. The blood was coming from internal hemorrhoids, and the doctor says it's from the "typical American diet." Too much fat and carbs but not enough plant based fiber. A few other things were noted and biopsies on them for safety sake.    Hospital visit was grand with "most" of the staff addressing me as female. I did have "bra talk" with one of the CNA's. Even my discharged papers use my preferred name on them (Birdie).   So basically, adding more fiber to my diet will eliminate my internal hemorrhoids as well as lower my risk for cancer.
