I'm Really Lucky

Well I'm now out to all of my close friends. One, (the one I expected to have the hardest time understanding) actually responded by exclaiming "Aha I knew it!" That was the last thing I expected, although after that he had lots of questions. That's fine though as he's being far more nonchalent about it than I'd expected. One of the other friends didn't quite understand that this is still something I'm keeping somewhat quiet though and immediately told his girlfriend.

Luckily for me she was supportive. She also gave him a smack for not considering my privacy (so he won't do it again) and I'm told that I'm officially allowed to come along whenever I want on girls nights from now on. So I have a new friend, one who is actually girly and might be able to give me a tip or two! ^_^

Next up I need to talk to my college's principal about this to know about how administration reacts, and to the counselor who can hopefully get me a referal to a GT, or at least a referal to a general therapist who can in turn refer me to a GT. There's also apparantly another MTF person in the area whom one of my friends is friends with and says I should meet, as they're a bit farther along the transition process. Apparantly not by much but its still something and helps me (and her too) not be alone in going through this.

After that comes parents. That one's going to be tough. But one friend has said I can stay with him as long as I need to if things go really bad, and another has said that her family will pretty much permanently adopt me as one of their own if I lose mine. If things do go wrong I'm really grateful that I have these friends, because I know a lot of people aren't that lucky.

It's good to have support. I am not sure if I would have been brave enough to tell my parents if my firends had not accepted me. I will tell you this: there is not way to have the conversation with your parents in a way that will not be awkward on some level.

I spent the whole drive over to their house wishing I was gay because that would be simpler to explain.

wow thats awesome! you're lucky to have such chill friends. in my experience girls night out is pretty cool, even if i was the odd man out lol...and dont worry about your parents, just keep building up a support base and plan an exit strategy. thats what im trying to do and it seems to be effective so far.

Super news, Melissa. Having a support group of friends is a luxury many don't share, so do count your blessings, and be sure to give those folks a hug from time to time, just to remind them that, yes,

you are a girl!

Please don't stress about your parents, though. It won't be easy, and they may be confused and hurt for a while, but completely turning their back on you is unlikely. Just be prepared for an initial period of shock and adjustment.

HUGS
