I'm 17, (1993) MtF Pre-OP. I just contacted Dr. Bowers and Dr. Mcginn, is it still possible to have the surgery this year?

I want the surgery this year so badly but I live in Europe so I cant just go to them for an appointment..

I dont know if I shall go to Dr. Bowers or Dr. Mcginn yet..

For starters both Dr. McGinn and Dr. Bowers follow the Standards of Care very closely - you must have your parent's permission if under the age of consent and they will require two letters from therapists not just one as some in Thailand and other countries might require.

You must have completed at least one full year of HRT, be in good physical condition, under the weight requirements and having lived full time (RLT) for a full year.

If you fulfill all of those criteria then you will have to deal with their very full surgical calendars - good luck to you.

Assuming you meet the surgical criteria, it is a matter of scheduling. It is also possible to schedule a date without yet meeting the critera as long as the critera will be met by the surgery date. Usually it would need to be far enough in advance of the surgery date for paperwork to be processed. Some may require all be submitted a month or more in advance, so best ask the particular surgeon.

Advance scheduling like that allows one who to get on the calendar even though there are still many months RLE left as an example.

SRS surgeons ae always having openings so even if the calendar appears full. People cancel for all sorts of reasons including not having enough money, being nervuous or unsure, not having met the standards, etc. So usually it is possible to get on a waiting list and if there is a cancellation one can get in sooner.

With the economy in the shape it's in, it might be easier than you think to get an early date. When I got the call to schedule in July 2010, I was offered a surgery date in August! Unfortunately, I wasn't going to be able to come up with the travel funds in that time so I asked for something in October, and had three dates to choose from in October! That was with Dr. Bowers, who's work I can definitely vouch for, is amazing!
