The past couple of times I have been to get my haircut, the person cutting my hair has told me that it is really dry and that I need to use conditioner. I recently started using conditioner regularly, and my hair does feel softer, but how do I get my hair any more "feminine" without really alerting anyone? :/ I try to keep my hair pretty long, or at least, not short. I also have really thick hair, is that a good thing for me?

Catherine,

Without knowing your age group or seeing a picture of your hair, its hard to give good advice. Long hair can already be pretty feminine, so you may not need to do much else with it besides styling it. If you haven't already done so, you could get layers, which when styled right can look super girly. You could go for an edgy-goth look and get an A-line cut.... so many possibilities.

Thick hair is so much better. If you want it thinner, you can always have them thin it out. But if you have fine hair, its hard to add volume when you want it.

I'm 15. Here is a picture with my glasses:

And here is one without my glasses on:

(Note: I just took a shower, and haven't brushed my hair yet <.<)

Thanks :)

Hi Catherine,

What I would give for hair like yours! Your hair appears to be thick and full of body - there are lots of possibilities there!

I'm not sure how much you can get away with - letting it grow a few more inches in the back might be possible - enough to look feminine when you want and still not attract attention.

Good luck, and do take care of that hair - it's a treasure!

Love, Kat

Girl conditioner is not enough! Ok so im a self proclaimed teen hair addict LOL seeing as where the same age heres tips! Once a week apply deep conditioning treatmeant found at any beauty suppy store they range from uhh 8-100and above...I would stick to a 14$ one(:. Mkayy umm and use hair oil only on the tips because if u place it on the roots it will make your hair thin and fallout:)...we dont want that do we now? Mkay sooo also try and massage ur scalp daily in the shower for 3-5 minutes?(stimulates hair growth). OH AND coconut and almond oil is reallly cheap like 1$? Yeaah a really good deal! But dont use to much!! And well cut split ends! And ummmm thats about it if anyone needs makeup or hair tips? Let me know!:) im basically a pro hehe

Thanks! That means a lot to me :D My hair is kind of short right now because a couple weeks ago I had to get my haircut. Typically I just tell them to cut it however my dad won't get upset over (he is a total neat-freak, if you have one hair wrong, he will take you to get your haircut x.x), but this time I think I'll try to ask them to keep as much hair, but straighten it up. That should be a happy median :)

Adorable! Aly's advice is GREAT and I wish you luck. Just thought that if you do go for a more feminine styling the glasses will help detract from feminine features and facial structure versus without them (If you ever consider dabbling with passing ;D).

Biotin helps with nails and hair as well. Its an over the counter supplement and i've gotten compliments on how soft my hair is after taking it for a little while.

I would recamend using deep conditioner once a week , you can also use a leav- in cinditioner styling product and you could also flat iron you hair that would give it a little fem in your hair. And please I do not recamend spending money on over the counter cheap hampoo and conditioner I can not express this enough to any of my clients it cause it really not good for your hair as they claim to be. Supplement is not needed plus your young so you really don't needed any pills like that. I am a licsens Hair Stylist

If you are trying not to alert anyone you should be fine growing your hair out a bit, I have a male friend who had his hair down past his shoulders and nobody thinks twice about it, it is also really soft and quiet thick. I tried asking him how he keeps it looking nice but he claimed it just 'falls like that' after he gets up in the morning.

I use conditioner on my hair regularly to keep it soft, although i don't use it every time i wash my hair as I have heard that using to much can damage your hair. My hair looks to be about the same thickness as your but is longer, it reaches all the way down my face and it hasn't raised any suspicion within my family.

I would recommend brushing your hair after washing and drying it, this seem's to have made my hair softer since I started doing it. It also feels really good if you have had a stressful day.

Just having longer hair can often make it feel more feminine or if that doesn't work for you, you could look into styling it differently but more people would notice that you had a 'feminine' hair style and it could alert people before you are ready for them to know, if you have not told them.

Good luck ^^

Love <3

@Maria ...... conditioner dose not damages your hair it recondition your hair to it proper HP acidic level of 4.5. Shampoo is only a detergant that just cleans your hair with a little high acidic level to alkaline(high Ph level) which can be harsh that may damage hair with out the use of conditioner. With conditioner being rate with a low acidic HP level will reconditioner and balance the hair to its natural Ph level. Conditioner is a must after using shampoo.

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.

I sometimes look too critically when I look in mirrors. If I’m presenting as male, I think I look too feminine. If I am presenting female then I think I look too masculine. It’s very irritating! Sometimes I think I get it down right. I guess everybody has their good and bad hair days and such, though.

https://www.hrc.org/news/reyna-hernandez-latina-trans-woman-salon-owner-and-vibrant-spirit-killed-in-washington-state   This case is unusual, in that the victim was murdered in the U.S. and her body driven all the way to Mexico, presumably to hide evidence and confuse the authorities.    May Reyna rest in peace, and her vicious killer convicted and sentenced to a very long term behind bars.   Carolyn Marie

I cooked a breaded bone-in pork chop (seared in iron skillet then into the oven) an artichoke (w/mayo) and a frozen mac n' cheese that claimed it was "The Best Mac n' Cheese" ... and it was actually pretty good.
