My Make Up Tips

Here are a few tips I have when it comes to make-up:

1. Don't just apply a powder foundation, I know make up is expensive, but if you want longer lasting foundation put on a liquid foundation, makes your powder stick on and covers up more blemishes and other things you wish to hide.

2. For eyes put on a primer/ or a eye gloss, then apply your eye shadow. This makes it stay longer and the gloss makes it stand out more.

3. If you want that little wing continuing off your eye use eye shadow for daytime very light though looks strange when people wear heavy make up during the day, at night if you want a more dramatic look use eyeliner.

4. If you have high cheek bones please please please highlight them with blush, nothing too dramatic, considering its spring do a very light pink, each season has a different shade of blush.

5. Lip gloss/ lipstick, either is good but makes you really feminine.(Remember lip liner)

6. Make sure you curl your eye lashes before putting on mascara. Curl one side then mascara, curl other than mascara. (Mascara is good anytime of the day just don't go too heavy.)

7. If your mascara gets clumped on your eyelashes and you don't want to smudge, use an eyebrow comb, very light brush it through/ hold it under the clump while blinking.

8. I'm sure you all know this, but I shall say it anyways, blue eyes look best with gray, brown or medium blue eye liners.Green or hazel eyes look good with eye liners in a deep gold, brown, forest green and black.Brown eyes stay tried and true in chocolate brown, charcoal gray, and black.

9. Yes skin coloration matters to blue-eyed women with a pink-toned skin should avoid all colors that are too pink in nature.Blue eyes that remain blue, with no tinges of green or turquoise, should avoid green shadows and liner.Green or hazel-eyed women with olive skin tones should stay away from certain neutral brown colors that contain a definitive yellow base. Brown-eyed women need to avoid bright greens and any shade of turquoise or teal.

Thumbs up for this thread. Some good tips. I am loving make up more and more. I have a cosmetics school make up text from a friend with plenty of tips for doing other peoples faces and identifying face and eye shape and where best to put color. So far have only skimmed it and not actually took a hard look yet. My friend Chiho has helped me to refine my application technique and i am confident in my application more than ever. No more fear of liner and the "poke my eye" problem.

Back on track here..

I used to curl my lashes then do mascara. It worked and looked good. But on the insistence of my friend Chiho, I now start with a lash primer, then mascara. let it dry and then curl. May or may not be the method everyone will find best, but for me. I have a stronger curl, longer looking lashes and my eyes appear brighter, larger and exciting.

When i choose to line my eyes and extend with a wing. Extending the wing upwards coming from the bottom lash line gives a more healthy and youthful appearance. Originally i had been going straight, but that made my eyes look tired. Chiho told me also that if you do the wing angled down, your eyes look aged and tired.

I agree that priming the eyes is the way to go. It makes your shadows more vibrant, last longer and decrease any chance the colors may crease or appear cakey.

When i do my eyeshadow, i pick the color up with my brush, then give it a tap on the back of my hand to get ride of any loose powder and avoid going too dark with the colors. You can always add more to darken after if that is what you are looking for. I also always start with the lightest color and end with the darkest color.

Foundation for me works best if i use a toner on my skin to remove oils and dirt, then moisturize to refresh the skin. I then use a primer which makes my skin silky smooth and soft, then i do an oil free liquid foundation and set it with a powder. Once the hotter summer months come along, i may have to change to a powder foundation. My oily combination skin may take on some shine with a liquid and i would rather to stay matte.

Choose a foundation that works with your skin tone. Ask at the make up counter if not sure on your skin tone and which foundation to choose. The girls are always helpful. I am in guy mode when out in the day and the girl had no issue with helping me. Now every time i go in and see Mary, she comes to talk with me and she is excited that i am trying to do make up and helps me with all my questions.
