Hey all.

I juat want to share with you all what has happened to me as of late....

i started having high blood pressure and retaining water... my doc was so worried that she sent me for a full blood works and it came back as the cause of such issues.... Testosterone!!! my level when i started was 3.0 ( females is 2.8) mens normal lvl is 13.0 and considered low when under 8.0... my result was a whopping 65.0 after having 250ml of depo testosterone every two weeks for 5 months... which caused my body to retain water... 8 kgs of the stuff.... and now has thickened my blood to such an extent i am now at risk of having a stroke and a corinory emblism( spelt wrong i am sure) i have blood pressure so high cause my blood is so thick to pump thru my veins.. and i am now on aspirin to thin my blood until i get to see my tg doc to have my doses changed next week... please to guys who think it may be cool to do T therapy without a docs help.... DONT!!! this stuff can kill you if not moderated to propper levels!!

You didn't say what your Estrogen level is. I say that because usually excess testosterone is converted by the body into..... estrogen! So another good reason to keep a close eye on T levels is so you're not shooting yourself in the foot by creating more estrogen. T needs to be closely monitored to keep it in a certain range.

FYI for gals: Excess Estrogen is NOT converted into T. That is a trans myth!

That's a good warning. Were you ever self medicating, or did your doctor just prescribe too high of a dose? I'm glad you're getting it corrected and saving your life.

Did your doc prescribe that much? 250ml over 5 months seems like a lot. Or did you mean 250mg?

Definitely no good not to have a doc properly prescribe and monitor us while on T. Precisely why I chose to go that route even though I can legally get T if I want it. I don't want to mess myself up.

Take care, bro.

Shaun thanks for the info. But isn't the endrocrinologyst's responsibility to monitor the T levels? That's why the doc usually start you with a small dose and asks for a blood test every so often. May I ask, were you under the endo's care when you started T?

Wow, this really scares me. They havn't done any checks on me since I started T almost 5 months ago. I live an awful unhealthy life style anyway, drinking everynight, and eating anything I want without considering what is healthy, and what isn't.

I hope you get better soon and this doesn't affect your treatment too much. x

When I first started T, I was put on a fairly standard dose. This turned out to be much too high for me, so I ended up getting too much hemoglobin (which can be deadly without one feeling sick). A routine blood test caught it, I was put on a lower dose, and now I'm fine. I've been on T for about three and a half years and, aside from acne, that was the only problem I ever had. I also know people who've never had a problem from their T.

What I'm trying to say is that blood tests are necessary. With them, T isn't very dangerous because problems are caught. Of course there are exceptions. Still, there's no need to be scared to take it if you need it as long as you do it the right way.

Excess estrogen is converted into death. (blood clots and such)

excess anything leads to death eventually...even excess life leads to death :S

but shaun, wow i'm sorry to hear that :( it's just lucky that you managed to catch it before it got any worse, that's a relief. but i hope things start to get better from here, it does sound like a really tense situation.

take care.

It's always somethin' ain't it? I feel for you bro. At the same time I gotta admit you just scared the bejezus out of me too lol. I dunno. On the one hand I've read heard about the safety and on the other I've got all this T converting to estrogen if you were in fact already having estrogen problems or high levels of T.

Dunno if it'll be helpful (and check with your doc) but you might think of altering your diet to try to reduce estrogen production/free up the T.

I'm NO authority but I've been comprising a mental list of things alleged to do that that includes red grape skins, brocolli, soy products/derivatives, and zinc to name some things.

And (I dunno if its an issue for you but it is for me) working on weight/reducing it also is said to help free the T/reduce you from converting it to estrogen. Apparently the heavier you are (it sux for me because I love food ) the more your body converts T to estrogen.

My T levels came back at double high-normal male levels a week or so ago. I was shocked... I actually didn't believe the doctor and checked with the lab myself. I thought they'd be lower than average, since I've only been on a full dose for a few months and I didn't feel super-aggressive and wasn't showing much improvement in the gym. But, there you have it. It might explain some of the insomnia I've been having. Hopefully, sleeping will get better in the next couple of weeks as my body gets back into normal levels. It's kind of a pain, though, because the changing hormonal levels screws with my ability to concentrate and makes me twice as sexually arroused... not helpful when I'm trying to study for a test tomorrow.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience with it... I was feeling pretty lame that my body couldn't handle the standard/average dosage that most transguys take. good to know that I'm not the only one that gets to make a vial last a little longer and save a little extra money.

My estorgen levels were very low to begin with, i am still not sure as to why i was precribed the dose i was, it is 250ML every two weeks injection into the backside.... Turns out that they found that stress of normal life played an equal part. I was more stressing that it can be so easy for men to not think about the consequenses and self medicate without doctors supervision. i was kept on the same dose and i do not have an endo just a trans doc and a gp thats monorting my levels, aparently in australia there is a protocol of every 6 months u have to have your t levels tested but onbly the day BEFORE your dose day... not after as the levels that you just introduced into your system will give a false reading...

On a lighter note, my facial hair has exploded to a point where i need to shave every day now, aparently i got " grave rash" Congrats to amanda_y mod from chat with her name change her M to F change on her licence and also now finally her starting Hormone therapy :) so proud of u hon yay!

But yeah there is no need to be scared just aware of the risks t or even O has, mainly to the young fellows that want to " self medicate" thru means of aquiring the med off the internet... DONT DO IT!!! u need a docs supervision!!! :)

Glad you're feeling better. :) That sounds like a pretty scary experience..

Yesterday I got back my blood test results from my annual physical, and started doing some research on the internet, which eventually led me to testosterone. It was interesting, because testosterone is known to have harmful effects on the heart and on cholesterol (this is, of course, mainly a problem for sedentary middle-aged men who do not exercise and have a poor diet..T is probably the culprit when it comes to those beer bellies and HBP in men :P)

Anyway, my cholesterol came back as 195, which I thought was kinda high, and the last time I got my cholesterol screened a few months ago, my total was lower, I believe somewhere around 170, but my LDL's were borderline high (131, 130 being the max in the normal range), and my HDL's were low, around 30 (supposed to be 40+, 60+ is best for the heart)...then I read that progesterone and testosterone can lower HDLs, while estrogen can raise them  I've always had an imbalance with my HDLs vs. LDLs....I'm really becoming impatient about getting my estrogen and T levels tested..I keep getting subtle clues like this my T levels are higher than they should be..

I'm surprised it became that much of a problem..how long did it take for that to happen? And yeah, that is pretty scary, esp. the fact that excess T raises estrogen levels :o T is a precursor to estrogen, so I guess that makes sense..anyway, glad you're doing better.

Wow, talk about big data!  I think I'd geek out on those vectors.  Politically, that idea is pretty sick.  Artistically....  Gotta have something to do with your time.  It's low impact work.

Although there certainly is just flat out racist hate in this, I tend to ignore that kind of thing and think of it from an economic standpoint.   I've seen some reports of the Chinese being afraid of their men becoming weaker and becoming less able to do hard, manual labor.  Of course that is just sexist BS on some level (my first wife does professional construction work), there is undoubtedly a weakening that goes with the M->F thing.  I feel it within my body.   In my opinion, it's just old school economics of a growing economy.  Like Vaclov Smil is suggesting, maybe we should give up on the idea of growth:   https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/sep/21/vaclav-smil-interview-growth-must-end-economists   I believe this old school growing economy is over and there is nothing anyone can really do about it.  Like a river, we just need to go with the flow and not fight it.  My roommate is talking about the idea of the country splitting up in to regions.  Perhaps there is some sense in that?  Two of my trans roommates this year came from the mid-south specifically for trans healthcare here.  We all like it here in Portland.  It isn't perfect.  Ironically, it could be much more accepting here.  But all the trans people I know here say that we are not leaving.  Because of my career, it is almost certain I will have to move by the end of the year, but I'll likely be coming back when my job is completed.  My house is 4 miles from the transgender hospital too.  I've had the fantasy for years about being a halfway house for people having surgeries.  I get this feeling that it is going to become a strange episode of M*A*S*H.  I guess I'm just going to go with the flow on this.  Fighting the tow of the moon and all that.

Yes, its common in gender therapy, my therapist was similar the same way, I should embrace my femineity. I came out in my childhood years. It was the first time my parents took me clothes shopping; I ran on over to the girl's department when I was a kid, some of us already knew we are girls. Okay, now let's bring things up to 2024, how to get past your fear? For starters, you can watch fashion shows or look around your surroundings outside to see what other women are wearing today. Take out your notebook to write things down such as red top, black jeans, earrings, boots or sneakers.. okay you get the general idea. Since I was already dating x-girlfriend at the time, shopping for female clothes during the holiday, was supper easy, if anyone asked me.. I just said I'm getting these clothes for my girlfriend, and it worked like a charmed.    Another to get past the fear without leaving home, you can try online shopping, you would need to measure waist area, and height .. this might come with trial and error since there is no dressing room.

I'm not sure how much you can really help anyone, but I have enjoyed opening my house up to trans people this year.   Including myself, there have been 4 transgender people living in my one bedroom house.  And there is one cis gendered male here.  All of us have experienced homelessness.  Not just a couple days either, but significant homelessness.  Since I was homeless for 4 years 20 years ago, I've always wanted to be in a position where I could open up my house like this.  For whatever reason, I am the only trans person in the house right now, but it seems that others are on the way.  I have a desire to keep my house running like this for the foreseeable future.   I had a retired Scientologist counselor helping me out when I was in my 4 year homeless period.  I can't even imagine how I would have survived without her.  When I was living in those cars and vans, I'd have periods of a week or two where I'd stay with her and have adventures.  I'd get some better food.  She was on SSI, so we would go to the food bank.  I got turned onto cauliflower from the food bank.  I'd get my laundry done and then I'd have some time studying on the computer.  I slept on the living room floor with a sleeping bag.  My Dirty Pot and Igotarock compositions where made on the floor of that apartment.  I just put my gear on the floor and recorded my bass sitting on the floor.  I had made the drum machine parts while I was sleeping in my GEO Metro.  She kicked my out on New Years Eve going into 2004.  I had just been a mad scientist doing math and that was the best thing for me at the time.  a/b=c/d   So yes, you can help if you use some balance with it.

@awkward-yet-sweet I hope you get to go on the trip! I'm assuming from what you wrote that your husband is a trucker. I know what it's like to have diesel in your veins, to sit in a cab for hours on end enjoying the scenery and listening to the music of a big engine, it's pretty awesome and there's nothing quite like it.   @Birdie When ya gotta go, ya gotta go! I hope your state laws catch up with reality one day, but I won't hold my breath waiting.   Well, we might have a bit of an awkward situation happening here soon. It's our 40th anniversary this July and last week we finally decided to do something to celebrate it by going on an interstate getaway to a city which we love, Hobart. Flights are booked and paid for, accommodation in a nice hotel booked, a day cruise while we are there booked and paid for, etc. Meanwhile, our son and DIL dropped in yesterday with our 2mo granddaughter. We told them that we finally got off our behinds and booked a trip and everyone was happy. Then, they told us about our granddaughters' baptism which was organized for June 9th. No worries, we'll be there!    Fast forward a few hours and DIL contacted us to say that June 9th was off because one of the God parents isn't available, and the *only* alternative is for the weekend that we are away! Grrrr! So why couldn't they choose a later date? Because baby might grow out of her outfit by then! I know what will probably happen, there will be a heated discussion and to keep the peace we will once again cave in to the demands of others who never stop wanting a piece of us and we will end up canceling our trip.   First world problem I know, but we're getting pretty frustrated since my retirement last year that we can't seem to do anything for ourselves for more than a day or two at a time.

April, Those are beautiful. You may want to check out the offerings from this company, Trisha Waldron Designs. I discovered her jewelry a few years ago when I was at the Rapid City Regional Airport in Rapid City, SD. They have a gift shop there that had her jewelry. Heavens to Murgatroyd! What if Governor Abbott has installed genitalia scanners on the commodes? I suppose they could collect, catalog, and then with the genitalia scanner, activate the Klaxon, the red lights, and then initiate the barriers to contain you until the police arrive. Weird times, and weirder politicians, call for extreme measures. All of this caused by you wanting a gladder bladder. Woe is the world...   On a more real world note, be careful Birdie. Someone may snitch you out just to see what happens.

Congratulations on the ear piercing @MirandaB!! You'll get over the concerns about sleeping on them or how they're healing quickly. I found myself scouring Amazon and eBay for different types of earrings so I had them on hand when I was healed. My favorite earrings are a pair of flame painted brass feathers and I have a pair of leaves I love, too. So many possibilities once you're healed!!!     @Mmindy- I totally understand the puppy routine. We've has our girl for a week now and I'm amazed at how quickly she's learning. She is totally acclimated to her crate now. She also sleeps 6 or 7 hours each night. Yesterday, she started going to the door and sitting when she needed to go out to the bathroom. Still, it's play for an hour or so and then crash. It's as if you can see her growing as you look at her.   I have been absent a lot here - so much going on with my wife's mother now in hospice, my aunt that I've been helping for over a year now moved locally into skilled nursing and the new puppy not to mention the normal things around our house. I get way behind in cutting the grass and am just finally getting the pool ready. Ugh.    Can someone please figure out how to add more time to the day?   I miss the interaction here. But, I'll get things settled soon and be back to my normal....as if I'm at all normal.    Have an awesome day, everyone!!!

Good morning everyone,    Parker started to make noises in his crate with a chew toy at 04:50. I was able to catnap until 06:00 when I had to get out of bed. In my pjs I took Parker outside for a run around the backyard. Gave him his first bowl of puppy kibble and water, then started brewing my coffee. He finished off his kibble and played tag with Sheldon (male cat) in and around the dining room table and chairs. I’m on my second cup of coffee and they are both asleep.    @Birdie you are such an inspiration, be safe and go with confidence into the bathroom of your choice. Most people understand you just need to…   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Now for another push downward from a certain political group in Congress. There is an effort by Congressional Rs to cut funding to any nonprofit group supporting LGBTQ individuals. As reported on the NBC News website (https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/house-republicans-lgbtq-nonprofits-rcna152753), the house appropriations committee is attempting to block Economic Development Initiative funding to any group helping us. Don't you just feel the love. Apparently that loving former vice president we had during Trump's presidency, does not believe that public funding should not be providing funding for at-risk transgender minors. One must wonder how much more hateful some of these individuals will become.
    • Ladypcnj
There are some housing assistance links on the internet, but I would recommend contacting an Lgbtq+ community support group in your area, they would know places that are safer for her.
