Great Day For Our Local Community

I have written previously about the history of what will be formalized today. Today our county Board of Supervisors will formally adopt an EEO policy that has comprehensive language on sexual orientation and gender identity. I will be at this meeting to thank the people on the county level that worked to get this passed. And be there on behalf of the Human Rights Commission of which I am vice-chair. We got involved when another local group (trans but with LGB allies) took this on as one of it's goals last year. We worked together with the Transgender Law Center. This is something I have been working on daily for a year.

In a small, rural, isolated community where the County is the largest employer and most services are contracted with the County, this is huge and I am very proud to live where I do. I am proud of the HRC, TLC and the group Project Health.

I used to work for the County. And working on this allowed me to talk to people I interact with in business and politically in the work I do so the education part of this is far-reaching..

With the economy, particularly in California, and more budget cuts and living in an economically depressed rural, isolated area I am realistic about

this victory but having that protection and a consistent policy is a first step.

We celebrate our personal milestones in transition but this is special to me because many of my friends locally are a part of this coming to fruition. While this was happening, we were living our lives and being there for each other. I cannot wait to call them in a couple of hours and celebrate.

Thank you for reading this and sharing in our joy today.

John,

This is very good news. Each of these victories brings us closed to becoming full citizens with full rights that are protected. You and your colleagues deserve a huge "pat-on-the-back". Hope your celebration went very well too.

John, you are and will continue to be an outstanding ambassador for our Community. You and your colleagues are doing great work up there, and I congratulate you on your success.

California has often led the way on social issues. Those advances aren't always well received in other parts of the country, but they seem to take hold nonetheless. I hope that this is just one more example of trailblazing and positive steps forward.

Thank you all.

Cindy, yes I agree :) Together, one person at a time, we are making progress.

Big Brother John J, your confidence and pride in me means so much. Between us, we got the east coast and west coast covered.

Janice, I have been on the phone with my friends for the past hour and am so happy. I am hoping TLC and Project Health will send out press releases and recognize their work. I miss working with them on Project Health but I am were I need to be now.

Carolyn, you are so right about California. This does not lessen the defeat of Prop 8 but as we all know employment and housing are basics needed for us to survive.

Emily, thanks for the hug and I am very lucky to be considered your friend.

Can you see the big grin on my face?

That's great! John, I was wondering what kinds of things were most effective- if it was lobbying, gathering mass support, rally's or direct action, if there were any, and what you thought of the process of gathering support?

Megamix,

I took a different approach. Contrary to the ways and politics used by a few activists who speak for the LGBT community in general, I am a conservative-moderate. I have invested in my community and in people working on non-trans related issues. I took the strength of those relationships one on one and these included liberal, moderate and conservative alliances and advocated for us as a matter of equality and compliance with the law.

I did not play the victim; I was respectful; I have been very active as a volunteer and politically; and simply through people seeing my individual journey,I fought for our rights in general.

And it worked. There was no drama, no personal attacks and a very successful resolution in a relatively short period of time.

Our community is diverse and I feel we do a disservice to our community by believing that liberal progressive and Democrats are the only way.

Thanks for asking,

John

Thank you Lacey,

You are such a great support. I am happy to give to my community and be allowed to contribute what I have to offer.

Could not put it better than Winston Churchill: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give".

John,

You put so much effort into Laura's and your community. I am amazed you have strength to get out of bed and brush your teeth (I hope ;) ). The impact that you and those you work with have made is so encouraging and an amazing step in your community, and the communities around you. Not only will the policy change impact your neighbours, but the example will hopefully inspire neighbouring counties and communities to initiate similar humanitarian policy changes.

YOU ROCK!!!

Amy,

Yes, there is always time to shower and brush my teeth LOL. I enjoy what I do; it is so natural for me and thanks for the encouragement and kind words.

Hugs,

John

Good morning, everyone!!   Yesterday was lawn mower battery day. I've been nursing the battery on my Zero Turn mower for two weeks. It gave up the ghost when I stopped to refuel yesterday so I had to run over to the local shop to get a new one. And forgot my wallet so I had to drive home and back again.   Then, I was using the garden tractor with the bagger to pick up the clippings. I cut about 7 acres so it took me awhile. When I was done, I went to refuel it and, of course, it wouldn't start when I'd finished putting in the gas. I'm hoping it was just some corrosion on the cables - cleaned them up, gave it a quick charge and it started right up. We'll see if it will hold a charge now or turn out like the Zero Turn.   House cleaning day today. And then I'm going to just relax outside for a bit and enjoy one more warm day before our temps drop and rain comes in for the weekend.   Enjoy this beautiful day we've been given!!

Striking your head against the wall, you can lose 150 calories an hour. Blue color attracts mosquitoes in two times more than any other. Most toilet paper sold for home use in France is pink. In 2014, a missing woman on a vacation in Iceland was found when it was discovered that she was in the search party looking for herself. In 2005, Mark Zuckerberg unsuccessfully tried to sell Facebook for $75 million. Back then it was called TheFacebook. Strawberries can also be white or yellow, and some can even taste like pineapples! The Boston Marathon didn’t allow female runners until 1972. Banks have therapists known as ‘wealth psychologist’ who help ultra-rich clients, who are unable to mentally cope with their immense wealth.

I attend a medical day-centre in Texas for needed medical services. It's religious oriented, so not gender fluid friendly. I of course dress 100% in female attire yet androgynous to keep both "them happy", and I really don't mind.    I of course am imposed rules that no other participant is bound by. The examples are the allowed size of my backpack, or how many visits per day I can see my Representative payee.  The gender neutral restroom use was a compromise that all off us have agreed to.  Not being able to wear tanks tops or shorts that aren't "Bermuda length" are other examples of where I am restricted more than any other participant. "Bra talk" is strictly forbidden, even though their doctor and occupational therapist were the ones that told me I needed support due to neck pain.    I found myself being reprimanded by staff three times yesterday for very petty details, and they have constantly pushed for me to remove myself from the program voluntarily. I am of course someone not welcomed in the program, but federal discrimination laws prevent them from removing me. They instead are just making life miserable with the hopes that I will leave on my own.

Nope.  I live in a rural area.  Pride events are for city folks.  The normally quiet LGBTQ+ club kind of changes atmosphere during that time, and things get a bit political.  As a non-Democrat, I avoid it.

For me, definitely the size thing.  I'm 5'4" on a good day, and 100lbs.  I can pass as a teenage boy, but never for my real mid-30s age.  And since my husband looks older than his age, I'm often assumed to be his kid.  Or folks think there's something illegal going on.      Also, my lack of the typical aggressive "masculine" demeanor.  I don't really desire the typical masculine social role, nor could I do it even if I tried really hard.  I'm usually quiet and kind of timid.

I am sorry for your struggles. I cannot empathize, but I can surely sympathize. I wish only the best for you!

No, they are the only provider of services I need an my area. 😑
    • RaineOnYourParade
My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.
    • RaineOnYourParade
This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

I been play texas chainsaw massacre game most recently. It free on game pass right now. Just need a good team

Anyone play war and order on their phones?
    • violet r
I can relate.  I have always played a female character when given the opportunity. Not really and reason except I just alway pick them since I was young
