I Saw Becoming Chaz

I know there is a thread about this movie being shown on television on monday but it was in a theatre in Toronto,

I just went to go see it and it was a very touching film. I don't want to spoil it so I won't say specifically what spoke to me but it was very moving. Me and my mom actually got in for free because a lot of people had passes for ten free tickets and they didn't need them any more so they were just giving them away. The passes we got had already been used a couple of times but we only needed to use each of them once anyway. We were in the rush line because we couldn't book tickets in advance but it was well worth the drive down and the wait. We felt secure once we got to the front and nobody had gotten into the movie we were seeing (everyone in front of us came for another movie) and we were among the first five people that didn't have tickets reserved to get in. We were so lucky. They let the five of us in first and they eventually let in more people but they had to wait a little longer.

I'm glad my gender therapist got in (he was the one who told us the film was playing) and we will have something light and relevant at the same time to talk about on tuesday.

As Carolyne Marie said, it's going to be on OWN this monday and I would reccomend it (I didn't say highly just because I'm trying not to sound like a critic but I would probably use that word).

I have not yet seen this movie, but I would like to. I think that movies that truly reflect the transgendered experience are not only good for us, but are good for all people.

Thanks hon

I would like to see the movie Becoming Chaz too. I have seen clips on the internet about Chaz and it is great to see stuff of a well know person like this because I hope it makes the general community more accepting for us, just like the gay community is more accepted today.

Not related to movies:

I would also like to see more rights and protections such as hate crime laws and in the criminal code too specifically worded for transgender folks just as there are for people who are gay. I am hoping with the public and the politicians being more aware, this will happen sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the review, Chrys. Very helpful.

Perhaps more than any film since "Boys Don't Cry," this might open a lot of eyes and a lot of hearts to our lives and issues. I sure hope so.

It wasn't on our cable OWN yesterday - donno why. Sally said it was on the regular Oprah show. Sometimes we get a delay presentation later, will keep watching for it.
