Question About Breast Development.

I realize this question will probably be difficult to answer. Not because you won't know the answer, but because I know how hard it can be to describe such things. I hear all the time about the pain associated with breast growth. I'm wondering if anyone can describe the pain. What sort of pain is it, where exactly is it, is it worse in certain areas, that sort of thing.

I'm also curious about something else. I've only been on hormones just over a month, but my nipples seem to be a little bit harder, and maybe a little bigger (though not noticeable visually, they just seem more substantial to touch). Is that normal for one month, or am I just imagining it?

It's mostly been over-sensitivity in the nipples and a kind of dull, heat-like pain behind the nipples for me. It started in the first month, then the dull pain stopped and the sensitivity dropped, but was still more than before hormones.

A few weeks ago, my nipples became more sensitive than ever and the dull pain came back a lot stronger. I'm guessing it's cyclical? I've only been on estrogen a little more than 3 months so I'm not entirely sure.

No matter whether they're in the painful part of the cycle or not, do your best not to bang into anything near the nipple area. That's a pretty sharp pain.

For me it was an initial engorgement of the nipples which came with sensitivity (pain and pleasure). Then a hard and painful nugget developed behind my nipple. From hear my whole chest began to get sore and sensitive. One thing I noticed is that my chest was sorer (and development was faster) when I ate a large amount of variety and started eating more protein. I actually started eating the muscle building protein again as that seemed to work pretty well. Of course this is just me on my rather awkward grad school diet of caffeine and junk.

Also, chesticles are awesome (the colloquial word I wanted to use is often filtered), I LOVE becoming a girl.

Hope that helps,

<3

I'm pretty much in agreement with Valerie and Amy. It's a dull general pain and tenderness right behind the nipples at first, and then it spreads out. It's not real unpleasant unless pressure is put on it, like from a seat belt shoulder strap, or it collides with something firmer than a bag of marshmallows or sharper than a pillow. Door jams and stairway banister knobs are particularly fun. :(

But, like Amy said, chesticles are awesome!

I have also noticed fo rme it is a little cyclical. About every four weeks(give or take) I have a spurt - roughly corresponding with when I get weepy and moody every four weeks or so (lucky me gets PMS).

Ok, well, everything you've all been saying pretty much sounds like what I experienced, except for the part where bumping them hurts a lot. I haven't had that yet. I guess it wasn't my imagination. I'm constantly paranoid that I only think certain things are happening because I want them to.

To me it's not really much pain. I know something is happening when my breasts are ready to grow when I feel a burning sensation.

Like everyone's saying, pain means something's happening.

For me, the second night after starting HRT, I dreamt I was in a knife-fight and my nipple got cut a little bit. When I woke up, the pain was still there! Sharp, but not intense. Felt like that on and off for the first few months.

I had the lumps before starting HRT, but they were tiny and barely hurt. Obviously started growing and got more sensative. Now I'd say on the surface, nothing hurts, but the under-the-surface lumps are a little tender all the time, and I wouldn't want to lay on them.

Also, the muscle-gain protein shakes seem help for me too :-) but I'm super-skinny so any calories help.

Hi!

Has anyone here added progesterone to their hrt for better breat development? I have read up a lot on it and there are so many different opinions on its effectiveness and so i thought why not ask someone who has actually tried it. Also, has anyone here used finasteride as part of their hrt regimen? I am again just looking for an opinion from people who have actually tried it. Thanks!

Let me tell you something, Dear Girlfriend!

A year ago at work....I was trying to open a file cabinet with a sticky drawer (chest high..).

It came loose all at once and banged me in the chest.....

I can't repeat any of the words that I used, but....

Gawd and Albert Einstein talked to me and and I think that I lost consciousness for a minute....

It was off the "Pain Scale" and tears ran down my face.....

Just sayin'

Donna Jean,

I had a similar occurrence: in the middle of the night, I got up to use the restroom. As is my habit, I didn't turn on any lights, I know where everything is, right? As I was leaving the bathroom, BAMB! I walked right into the door frame, leading with my chest or course! My left boobie took a direct hit. OMG, I very nearly fell to the floor in agony. Be careful of your girls, don't go bumping into things, it's very unpleasant.

Now there is a barely noticable dull ache most of the time, and, of course they itch at times. I am getting used to this and hardly notice it until I lean across something, then I get reminded all over again.

My endocrinologist is currently of the opinion that it's effectiveness is questionable, and that people get what their genes dictate with or without the progesterone. She did say, however, that it might be something she would consider at a later time.

Yeah.......I take it......

My doctor leans either way on it....so, I decided to hedge my bet and take it....so, she prescribed it for me....

It's better to take it and chance getting some growth than skipping it and miss the possibilities....

Yes...but...it's also one more stress on the liver and one more cost I don't need. If I feel the need later, I can probably add it, but I'm happy without it for now.

Sensitive?

Like getting in the shower and the spray hurts?

Like brushing them with my elbow when pulling off my shirt?

Like forgetting and scratching that itch?

Got all the growing pains - now how about some growth?

Ummm.... late here but let me just throw some stuff out, 'cause it sure varies for me:

HOT - wow like they are really cooking up something (blood supply realigning I guess).

Sensitive - surprise you when you bump into something ... owww

Nipples and aureola hurt - almost like they had been bruised

Breast tissue behind the nipples and aureola ache, like you had been punched in the chest

And rarely, but you will know it when it happens ... ALL THE ABOVE

But the most annoying problem is the rubbed raw sensation when you wear the wrong kinda shirt like something with embroidery on it - and you realize you shoulda worn a bra under it to protect the girls!

And sudden collisions?

I once was moving too fast in the clothing section and speared 'Louise" (right side) on a projecting metal hanging support. Jesus and some of the Saints talked to me... OH MY!

It's not like the male hit between the legs, where you got nauseated - but it is close to that pain level! Stars and fireworks claim your vision for a bit.

Jogging - now there is something new. Sports bras were invented for a reason. Same for running down the stairs too fast... yikes.

Its a different world for women.

I'm one of those who added micronized progesterone to the mix many years post-operatively. There has been a positive impact. The last time I had progesterone in the mix was around the time of surgery back in the middish 90's, but those were my skinny days...and when I was barely 125lbs, it didn't seem like much of anything worked for me. It was actually my GYN that suggested we try tossing the micronized progesterone back into the mix...

I have no idea about finasteride (not even sure without going to google what it might even be or intended to do)...

Some anxiety is building up inside.

Suppressing your emotions because you’re afraid of them can be bad for your physical and mental health. Here’s what to do instead. When a toddler feels a “big” emotion, like anger or sadness, they tend to have a big tantrum on the floor. And these tantrums can be a lot to observe, full of thrashing, screaming, and tears. But a child reacts like this because the emotion they’re feeling is uncomfortable, maybe even painful.   Of course, as adults, we feel emotions too, and those feelings can be just as overwhelming, uncomfortable, or even painful as they were when we were children, even if we don’t let ourselves react in such a big way. But, sometimes, in our attempts to not give in to our emotions, we go too far: we run from them or suppress them — even if that harms us in the long run. Although there are many reasons we might suppress our emotions, one of them is that we are afraid of our emotions. Fear of emotions is called “animotophobia. It is not an official term in the DSM-5-TR. Still, fearing your emotions can have a significant impact on your well-being.

@KaitSo glad you are here. It's never too late to talk to your doctor. bI was 68 before I stopped lying to myself and talked to my doctor. He or she might be able to help. It may be easier to find an endocrinologist you specializes or a health care group who specializes. You might also seek out a therapist who specializes to help with HRT resources. Psychology Today can help find therapists who specialize. Glad you are here. WELCOME.

Good morning, everyone!   Coffee is flowing so my brain is beginning to function.    We've been busy caring for aging family members and trying to get the house open now that the weather is getting warmer. I've been working on getting the pool open and cleaned. It's almost ready for salt and starting up the heater. We may be swimming by next week.   But, it's raining here today so I guess I'll be stuck working inside.   Have a wonderful and safe, day!!

I had that same outcome from my first colonoscopy years ago. It just triggered more frequent colonoscopies for a period of time. Hopefully, that will be the same plan for you.

Biopsies came back mostly clear except one, one polyp came back with abnormal cell growth (pre-cancerous). It was completely removed during the colonoscopy so I don't know yet if further action needs to be taken.

Hey-o. My name's Kait. I haven't decided what to do about my last name yet. (Mononyms sound cool, but they're very problematic unfortunately).   I guess pronouns are important. They/them or it/its (strong preference for 'it/its').    Im not someone who's been active in the community for a long time, but I've known I was trans almost my whole life. It's just that financial, medical, and psychiatric struggles have kept it from the forefront of my priorities for 10 years or so. So basically during that entire time, I've been living as an AMAB, masculine-presenting person named kait. Which is not ideal, but I've been able to deal with it by dissociating from my body and viewing it as an appendage rather than as a 'self'.    Mostly I'm on here because I finally feel well enough mentally and physically to think about beginning HRT. Problem is, I really don't know where to start out what to do. I have an endocrinologist I see for an unrelated health issue, but honestly I don't have a very strong relationship with him. Is it best to start with my existing doctor? Or should I find an endocrinologist that specialises in this sub-field? What's the best available tech? Is 29 too late to be taken seriously about this by my doctor? I have no idea about these questions and so much more and I need help.   Side from trans stuff though, I'm the boringest person you'll probably ever know. I have a pretty rich inner life and a wonderful partner, but really all I do is work, sleep, and occasionally build tiny models.

I agree that porn is a really bad thing.  Bad in general, but probably gives a misleading view of trans folks.  If you don't see trans folks out in the wild, but you see plenty of them online, that is going to give the impression that it is primarily sex-driven, and that trans folks are interested in sex with just about everybody all the time.  Similar to what people often assume about being bisexual.    I'm androgynous, so sometimes people look at me this way.  Especially if my husband and I are together (if they don't assume I'm his kid) people get that "judgy" look on their faces.  You can sort of read their minds.  I even heard on lady say something like, "Oh, that's just so wrong" when we came out of a shower at a truck stop.  I mean, I like sex and we have a great connection in that way, but its not "THE REASON" for our relationship.

Thank you for sharing! This is very much where I am currently. Questioning my motivation's, wondering where this is going and do I have the fortitude to continue the journey?   I too like to dress in what would probably be eye catching in your typically suburb. Not in a revealing way but beyond casual. Not that I’ve presented in public yet. Trying to build the confidence to dress for the next trans pride event locally ;)
