Hey does anyone read comics/graphic novels? Or manga?

Ive been reading them since I was a little lad. Lol

I have been getting into them lately though, and I figured id start a thread on here for everyone to chat and talk about comics, and possible ask and receive comic recommendations!:)

I read darker comics, like Jennifer Blood(which is a very deep and thoughtful comic dealing with a VERY cool housewife) and I just bought "Hellraiser", issue number 1!. (Im not sure if I should censor the title!)

Its an awesomely illustrated I think, but ill have to open it to see!(:

What are your favorite comics? And if you dont read them, do you like any comic strips? In the newspapers, or magazines?

Hope to get some responses here :-)

Thanks for reading!(:

I have been into anime and manga for many years. As I look around my room, I have many shelves filled. My current favorite is One Piece. Though I have Bleach, and Naruto going as an active series.

For complete series I have;

Caravan Kidd

3x3 Eyes (If you know the series you will understand my screen name)

Gunsmith Cats

Hyper Police

Ranma 1/2 (Better than the Anime)

YuYu Hakusho

I am working my way threw TriGun now. Amazon has them for $1 used so I can get them cheep.

I have a few of the more classic graphic novels from DC and Marvel Comics, but I find that Manga tends to have more original ideas and story lines.

Love,

-Lena

I used to read a lot of different comics, but now that I'm learning more about transgender stuff the entertainment value in a lot of them pales for me as soon as I see people being mean to someone due to their gender identity or expression... including that most of them seem to be male-driven with the females as limp as rags even when they're supposedly more powerful.

So, lately, the only ones I've been able to simply enjoy are The Princess and KhaosKomix. Although I haven't read the comics, I have rather liked the anime adaptations of K-ON and Kino's Journey.

For anyone looking for a thought provoking and sensitive manga centered around trans issues I reccomend Hourou musuko also called wandering son. It's not finished but a new one comes out every month. :) You can find all the chapters online.

Ohhhh I love Manga!!! I just got a library card at a major city and have a bunch sitting around my room I'm trying to devour. I just finished Ode to Kirihito, it's disjointed at times, but I love epics, and this one does not fail to satisfy. It's written by Osamu Tezuka, wrote Astro Boy, and it is very dark and serious epic about a doctor on the wrong side of a conspiracy who ends contracting a disease that turns people into hideous dog people. He goes through all these horrible ordeals because of his appearance. An amazing epic of perserverance, human spirit, and redemption. I spent about 7 hours straight finishing it in one sitting.

I also love

Azumanga Daioh

Museum of Terror

Spice and Wolf

Gakuen Alice

Battle Angel Alita

Berserk

I Am Here

I just started Ranma 1/2 and am already enjoying it.

This probably sounds lame but I used to read comic books for fashion inspiration...like growing up as a boy comic books were acceptable so I would see what fashions the girls were sporting and plan on modeling my future looks on them lol. But in doing that, I did also find I really enjoyed some of the stories in those books. My favorites were silver age titles that showcased mod fashions like the Diana Prince Wonder Woman period and the Dazzler. Later on I got into underground comics by people like Trina Robbins and Diane Noomin. If you're into off-beat, campy characters, "Didi Glitz," is a fun read. Nowadays I love basically all Vertigo comics, anything from Neil Gaiman, and campy romance comics from the 60's that are unintentionally hilarious.

As far as manga, a few I enjoyed were Museum of Terror, Bizenghast, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, Mai The Psychic Girl, Heaven!!, xxxHolic and Sakuran.

I read manga (online mostly), since it's easier than juggling novels while studying... I guess my favourites would be Amatsuki, Kuroshitsuji and D.Gray Man, since the art is great and the storylines quite complex.... I read Bleach too, but out of a sense of obligation more than anything else, though I really do love Kubo's character designs....

I recently started reading on-line comics. My favorites right now are Questionable Content, Rain and Misfile. I'm horrible with descriptions but Rain is about an MtF teenager in her first year full time while in high school.

Questionable Content (QC) is "ostensibly about romance, indie rock, little robots, and the problems people have."

Misfile revolves around Ash and Emily. Both are victims of a celestial clerical error. Emily woke up to find herself two years younger. She was a senior ready to graduate and go off to Harvard. Now, a sophomore, and not sure if she can go through it all again.

Ash was a teenage boy who loved racing. He woke up as a girl and the incompetent angel who made the clerical error is there to try to correct the problem.

They are all fun reads.

Lets see, Poison Elves by Drew Hayes, published last by Sirius Entertainment. It takes a Big Pointy stick to Elf Quest and tells the story about Elves like it really is.

Grimm Fairy Tales and pretty much any of the other comics published by Zenescope. The stories are Dark, Darker and Brr!

Anything Warhammer / Warhammer 40K because they aren't fluffy and pretty much anything that Games Workshop / Black Library publishes is pretty darn cool!

The Books of Magic by Neil Gaimen published by Vertigo. Classic.

2000 AD. I used to buy piles of those comics as a kid from charity stores, and watching Sylvester Stallones cheesy rendition of Judge Dredd made me nostalgic to go back and read the digital version.

Groo by Sergio Aragones which proves that I am, after all fluffy at heart. I just checked out the artists site while trying to spell his name. Groo Vs. Conan, Who'd have thunk it?

Ooh Elfquest! Great mention Cassie. I at one time had all the original WaRP Graphics black and white issues. Wendy Pini has always been one of my favorite artists.

Savage Dragon, Spawn, elf quest, JTHM, Associated Student bodies, 2 kinds, and about the only manga that didn't bore me to tears was Gyo and a couple of the horror mangas. Horror manga is where it's at.

I was hugely into comics as a child/teen.

Now I don't buy comics but will re-read two of them.

One is the already mentioned Elf Quest. It's fantastic.

The second is V is for Vendetta by Alan Moore. Also fanatic. Wish it was in the better graphics they have in comics these days though.

I'm a HUGE fan of Frank Miller (The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, The Spirit), and I love offbeat indie stuff; "Demo" by Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan is one of my all-time favorites, as is The Runaways, by Brian Vaughn (hilarious and poignant take on if you grew up and your parents were supervillians!). "Blankets" is also a teen-romance-grunge classic, absolutely beautiful artwork and storytelling.

As a kid, I loved Astonishing X-Men and Gen-X, and always hoped, dorkily, that I'd grow into mutant powers...that maybe would just let me be a girl. With firework-hands. Jubilee ftw.

Also, Ranma 1/2. Hilarious. Made me realize I might have an issue after I contemplated booking a flight to China to find that damn spring. :P

Hi Giz, welcome. There's so many different ways to be trans and you're so welcome here. I wish you luck in achieving your goal of being more androgynous. There's forums in here that might suit you and your goals. I look forward to hearing more from you. I go by he/they pronouns at the mo.

Hello @JenniferB!  Was kind of in the same boat with this.  I spent massive amounts of energy over several decades to try to control my drinking and drug use.  Because I'm highly disciplined, I was ultimately successful.  I felt I could have gone on with controlled drinking for the rest of my life without problems, but it got to the point where I realized that it wasn't worth all the energy I was putting into it.  At that point I found surrender.  I got a sponsor, attended almost daily meetings for a year, worked the steps to the best of my ability, tried my best to socialize with people even though I am an introvert, I made a mess for myself at the meetings and felt a little rejected.  And then I continued on doing a little service work.   After a few months away from it, I'm in a good spot.  I accidentally ate one of my roommates edibles a couple months ago.  I have only smoked a half ounce of weed in the last 20 years.  After it kicked in, I realized that it was a marijuana high.  Then I noticed something miraculous.  I just told myself that there is nothing I can do about it and then got on with the business of the evening like I normally would.  It was like the high just ended right then and there.   Controlled drinking like I was doing was just very risky behavior and not worth the effort for me.  In any case, I'm very happy that I spent my life fighting it all instead of just giving into it.  I think that whatever you put into something, you eventually get back out.   Meetings are cool.  People generally get equal time to share.  Seeing people who are struggling reminds me of the way I was and why I want to remain sober.  And by being there, I have the potential of helping someone else.  The stuff I don't identify with I just do my best to not let bother me.  And if it gets bad there, I don't have to go back.  I can find another meeting or even just read the literature.  The literature helped me a lot.

Good afternoon everyone,   I often wondered why @April Marie and @Willowgot up so early in spite of being retired. Now that I have my own puppy as a house pet I get it. We haven't had dogs since before my oldest granddaughter was born 22 years ago this September. I've always had working hunting dogs, and it was important they became acclimated to the current weather conditions. While the kennels had large outdoor runways, they also had pet passes into the somewhat temperature controlled garage. Yes, they were allowed in the house but only for short periods of time. Fast forward to present time, and I'm potty training a puppy as well as crate training. The first night Parker Von Schwinegruber, slept from 10:30 until 05:30. Last night we went to bed and 10:30 and he started making noise at 05:00. Since I don't want to test his ability to hold his business, we got up and went outside. He took care of business and we went back to sleep. This time he had a dental chew bar and I filled his water bowl. We cat napped until 08:00 and then got up for the day taking him immediately outside. He took care of business, and we played fetch and tug of war with his now favorite puffball. We came in and I put him back in the crate positioned so he could see me cook breakfast. Did he NO HE WENT TO SLEEP! We ate breakfast, did the dishes, and finished off the pot of coffee I brewed at 08:00. Once he woke up we stared at one another for about 20 minutes, because he seemed content to be in the crate. I got up and we worked on some obedience training as well as getting into and out of the crate with permission. We don't want him to crash the gate or any doors we will be going through.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I have not heard about it here in California, but then again we have events of various sorts going on very often, and not just in the June Pride Month.  We have Trans Fashion Week going on at a hotel complex over in West Los Angeles for the next three nights featuring shows by Trans fashion designers and modeled by Trans and NB people on the runways there.  I missed a chance for some free tickets and while I know and love many of the participants I do not want to pay for the tickets which will be in the $50 to $75 range, and which at those prices are nearly sold out.  (Not to mention $25 valet parking each night at the venue complex.).  There will be actual high end fashion buyers there though and it is an area where we are gaining some good footing.  I also admit that NONE of the fashions are going to be anything at all that would fit my basic personal style but look fine if not crazy on my much younger Trans siblings who will model them. (Ok everyone else keep on @Mirrabooka's topic.)

Welcome to TransPulseForums @gizgizgizzie    I hope you find this place as helpful as I do. I’m also in a slow transition living in the androgynous world. I’m out to my grown children and my extended family with mixed support from them. Some have cut me out of their lives and others want me to be their flamboyant family member.    Best wishes, stay positive and motivated    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Accidents happen.  So do heat-of-the-moment murders, without premeditation or trans-related hate.  It will take a trial to really figure it out.     One thing we can see from this is that it is people in our circles of acquaintances, friends, and partners who are the ones who usually hurt us.  Not someone random. We have to be careful who we trust.

Friday May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against HOmophobia, BIphobia and Transphobia).   Do you acknowledge or celebrate it? Do you do anything special for it, like taking part in any organized events or activities?   I'm not an activist and I prefer to fly under the radar, but I am slowly becoming aware of important dates. I have been aware of the date of IDAHOBIT for a few weeks now, but other important 'rainbow' dates have not been etched into my brain yet.    I will wear my favorite pride t-shirt as a token acknowledgement of the day, but it probably won't be seen; cool weather here will mean that it will be hidden under a sweater.
