When did your bleeding stop? I'm still bleeding a little and trying to avoid using my light colored panties at all costs. >_< What kind of pads do you all recommend also?

Sorry for all the topics lately ;D

Any serious bleeding shouldn't last long at all. If there is enough bleeding that leaking through something like a thin maxi would be a possability consult with the surgeon. Some incidental blood along with other assorted gunk (mostly surface layers of skin, other small pieces of skin, scabbing, partially dissolved stitches, etc) is normal and will come out for the first month or two. Significant amounts of blood is not.

Much of what will you'll need pads for is lube from dialating. As long as your dialating multiple times a day you will probably want a pad. So expect that need to go much longer than a couple months. You may find after any dialation you may want a pad.

As far as pads, I found I had strong preferences for brand and style. Best bet is to not get too much of any specific kind till you find out your own preferences or you may find yourself with a bunch of a type you can't stand to use. I generally used two types. A thin maxi was most common at first. Later I used panty liners when all I had to worry about was lube after dialating.

I am 9 weeks post-op, i tried different pads and found i like Kotex brand pads the best, my surgeon uses them in her office.

Some slight bleeding is normal, Dr. Mcginn my surgeon told me to use pressure to stop it, the sterile gauze and pad does this for me, you should talk to your surgeon if you have heavy bleeding or go to the ER. Spotting can last up to a year.

This week i am noticing allot of healing is going on , my discomfort level has gone way down especially sitting  and the neo vagina has tightened up due to healing making dilation a bit harder, especially on insertion

Since i have quite a bit of granulation tissue i have silver nitrate treatments every 10-14 days, this causes quite a bit of gunky discharge, for a few days afterwords, i also use two sterile gauze pads to soak things up then cut it back to one.

Since you are lots younger than me YMMV.

I was able to stop using pads and liners after about three months. Now I'm having trouble with recurring bouts of bacterial vaginosis, an overpopulation of the natural bacteria that cleans the vagina, which comes with a foul-smelling discharge. i have another gyno appointment next week for it.

Are you doing regular douching?

Ponders...just what is natural bacteria for an after market neo vagina...

I was once given a suggestion for such problems, but it's probably best to see what your doc says.

Dr. Bowers strongly recommends against douching, as it will only add to the problem. The Bacteria is called Gardnerella and it lives in all vaginas. It's responsible for keeping it clean by eating other invading organisms that could make us sick. The same species also populates our mouths, nasal passages, ear canals, and any other warm, moist orifice in our body to help us fight off invaders. It's a symbiotic relationship. Neo-vaginas, at least Bowers-brand one's (I can't speak for others) are lined with squamous epithelium, the same material that lines natal vaginas, so the Gadnerella have no problem moving right in. The only issue with having an "after-market" one is that it takes a while for the Gardnerella to get the gist of the proper balance needed, so naturally occurring Bacterial Vaginosis is common. The primary symptom being four-smelling discharge due to the excess bacteria. I was treated for it a few months ago, and it worked for a while, but now it seems it's back. One possibility is that since BV is technically an STD, (even through it can also occur naturally, BV can be spread through sex) it's possible I gave it to my GF before treatment, and she may have given it back to me after treatment.

Squamous epithelium is what there is after the normal external skin that is used to line the neo vagina sheds its surface layers and converts itself to internal skin.

I asked as douching too much can cause problems...

On the other hand your surgery is still fairly recent (under a year) and you are experiencing odor problems. Douching is often suggested in such circumstance. Certainly if your doctor advises against or there are other symptoms by all means follow your doctors instructions.

Everyone is different. I only had frank blood a couple days. It became lighter and clearer over time. I used maxi-pads for a couple weeks and then switched to panty liners. I would urge you to not worry much about your underwear... it can be replaced. If you're still having blood or the amount is more than you'd expect you might have granulating tissue that might need to be treated.

I also agree with Kalise in that douching is not good for us. Our bodies are trying to establish a new environment/it's own flora and it can't do that if you're constantly flushing it out. I have never douched and I have never had a UTI or yeast infection.

I don't know how far you out from surgery, but one thing I did frequently after I got home was short warm baths. It soothed the area.

I'm due for surgery with Dr. Preechah in April.

I was curuious to ask you ladies a bit more about the do's and don'ts of douching.

When you first come out of the hospital ( 5 days later) I was told that the dr issues you a small squirt bottle looking thing or whatever that you use to clean your vag.

When healing and stuff wouldn't it be more smart to douce to get all the gunk and stuff out?

I was planning on using betadine mixture with water to clean my punani out everyday.

What is your suggestion? I ofcurse want everything to settle in place correctly bacteria and all, but I don't want it to smell or do I want left over stuff up in there during the healing periods....

Please help

You would be best served to get specific instructions from your doctor. Generally douche would be vinegar and water. Seems to me betadine would be a bit overboard but maybe some docs suggest that? First I heard of such.. Right after surgery there will be no douching at all till the packing is removed and your start dialating.

Good afternoon everyone,   I often wondered why @April Marie and @Willowgot up so early in spite of being retired. Now that I have my own puppy as a house pet I get it. We haven't had dogs since before my oldest granddaughter was born 22 years ago this September. I've always had working hunting dogs, and it was important they became acclimated to the current weather conditions. While the kennels had large outdoor runways, they also had pet passes into the somewhat temperature controlled garage. Yes, they were allowed in the house but only for short periods of time. Fast forward to present time, and I'm potty training a puppy as well as crate training. The first night Parker Von Schwinegruber, slept from 10:30 until 05:30. Last night we went to bed and 10:30 and he started making noise at 05:00. Since I don't want to test his ability to hold his business, we got up and went outside. He took care of business and we went back to sleep. This time he had a dental chew bar and I filled his water bowl. We cat napped until 08:00 and then got up for the day taking him immediately outside. He took care of business, and we played fetch and tug of war with his now favorite puffball. We came in and I put him back in the crate positioned so he could see me cook breakfast. Did he NO HE WENT TO SLEEP! We ate breakfast, did the dishes, and finished off the pot of coffee I brewed at 08:00. Once he woke up we stared at one another for about 20 minutes, because he seemed content to be in the crate. I got up and we worked on some obedience training as well as getting into and out of the crate with permission. We don't want him to crash the gate or any doors we will be going through.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I have not heard about it here in California, but then again we have events of various sorts going on very often, and not just in the June Pride Month.  We have Trans Fashion Week going on at a hotel complex over in West Los Angeles for the next three nights featuring shows by Trans fashion designers and modeled by Trans and NB people on the runways there.  I missed a chance for some free tickets and while I know and love many of the participants I do not want to pay for the tickets which will be in the $50 to $75 range, and which at those prices are nearly sold out.  (Not to mention $25 valet parking each night at the venue complex.).  There will be actual high end fashion buyers there though and it is an area where we are gaining some good footing.  I also admit that NONE of the fashions are going to be anything at all that would fit my basic personal style but look fine if not crazy on my much younger Trans siblings who will model them. (Ok everyone else keep on @Mirrabooka's topic.)

Welcome to TransPulseForums @gizgizgizzie    I hope you find this place as helpful as I do. I’m also in a slow transition living in the androgynous world. I’m out to my grown children and my extended family with mixed support from them. Some have cut me out of their lives and others want me to be their flamboyant family member.    Best wishes, stay positive and motivated    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Accidents happen.  So do heat-of-the-moment murders, without premeditation or trans-related hate.  It will take a trial to really figure it out.     One thing we can see from this is that it is people in our circles of acquaintances, friends, and partners who are the ones who usually hurt us.  Not someone random. We have to be careful who we trust.

Friday May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against HOmophobia, BIphobia and Transphobia).   Do you acknowledge or celebrate it? Do you do anything special for it, like taking part in any organized events or activities?   I'm not an activist and I prefer to fly under the radar, but I am slowly becoming aware of important dates. I have been aware of the date of IDAHOBIT for a few weeks now, but other important 'rainbow' dates have not been etched into my brain yet.    I will wear my favorite pride t-shirt as a token acknowledgement of the day, but it probably won't be seen; cool weather here will mean that it will be hidden under a sweater.

Happiness for me comes from being cognizant of the things that make me feel good.   Sunshine.   Pandering to my inner woman.   Knowing that some people in my life really 'know' me.   Vacations, and Eggs Benedict at an alfresco cafe.   My wife and I being telepathic.   Grandchildren.   Music.   Wine!

True.  Every trans death is not a hate crime. There is so much hate expressed by some people, that we kinda get to expect it.

happiness to me is being ME. At all times, and it has yet to happen.

Hello & welcome, giz! Your post makes me remember how excited I was to join here too. I also had queer friends at the time I joined, but any of my trans friends lived a long distance away. So most local queer friends are gay & I felt uncomfortable coming out to them bc I couldn't assume they'd understand genderqueerness. So it was a thrill to join here and immediately have access to do many wonderful, genuine, kind & thoughtful friends-to-be.   Are you saying you're concerned that if you come out to your queer friends that somehow your parents will find out?     My love, I just want to affirm that that's not a weird dysphoria. It's just dysphoria. And we definitely get it. You're in good company here!     Look forward to seeing you around here & getting to know you. I shoot for androgynous appearance as well, leaning towards masculine.   Hope you're having a splendid day!

Listening to a YouTube mix for me and this song came up and I immediately fell in love again and just want to play music with like minded musicians playing OUR music and feel the joy and fulfillment even if no one else gets it. I love to fall into the music....
