I Finally Came Out To My Brother, And He Was Awesome About It

Today I finally came out to my brother, and his reaction was better than I had hoped!!!

Last weekend I went home with the focus of coming out to him, but due to his work arrangements, I had little opportunity. I left feeling deflated.

Well, after discussing coming out to him with my GT yesterday, today I gave him a phone call. Unfortunatly my father was also there with him(my father is sick with a bladder infection, hope he gets better), so I just had a chat about various things. Straight after the call, I instead sent a mammoth text and pushed the 'send' button. Instead of waiting nervously for the response, I went and had one of those cleansing, hot showers. When I returned, this was his reponse;

You have my support and love, I will talk to you soon about it, and your secret is safe, trust me!

I had a cry but I understand it now, I thought something had been different, but I didn't know and

didn't want to ask, I will always, always be your brother and here for you. I got to go to work, have a nice day. And thankyou for telling me. Speak soon.

Wow! Now, I always thought he might be easier to come out to and more likely to accept me, but this initial reaction has exceeded my expectations. Naturally, he feels some pain at the news, and I feel the pain of guilt, of doing this to someone I care about, but just...wow! Time will tell, but it appears I have a supportive brother That means so much to me! He is 18 months younger than me, so we have grown up together and remain close. I really didn't want to lose him.

I quickly told my mom about coming outto him, who fully supports me and lives in the same house as him, so he has someone to talk to about it for when im not around.

Coming out to my dad is just around the corner as well, I am very close to being 100% out to my immediate family, and to have support from two of them already feels fantastic and will give me confidence.

I know there are some of us out there that havent had great support from their families, and my heart goes out to you. I feel so blessed, but I wish all trans folk could find acceptance from their family as well

Looking forward to a new era in our relationship.

Phoebe, your post is one of the last I'll approve before calling it a day, and was a wonderful thing to end the day with. You are so very lucky to have such a supportive family, and I am really happy for you. When next you see your brother, I hope you give him a big, long hug, because he really deserves it.

Congratulations! Sounds like a good fam. I hope my mom and sister are as cool with it... I've never considered coming out via text, but hell, it worked for you. Not a bad worst case scenario. Good luck with your father!
