School Choir?

I'm a junior in high school this year, and last year i auditioned for choir knowing i didn't have a great voice but my friends talked me into it. Somehow i passed the audition thing with flying colors and some 2 octave range or something. Either way, a few days ago, i discovered how to do falsetto and tested my singing range again and found out i can sing all but the single highest alto note. I'd need to time to practice it, but i think i'm going to check if i could sing alto instead of tenor. My range is from G2 to E5, and the alto range is G3 to F5. What do you think, should i at least try to do alto? I brought this up with my mom (i could hit 5 notes more than i could before, i was sorta excited lol) and she got really curious why i would want to sing "a girl's range". She didn't seem to happy about it, but maybe that's because me and her have the same high note now. So what do you think?

That's such an amazing range! Definitely go for alto; if anyone questions it you could say its because you want to challenge yourself ^.^

I know a choir with about five male altos, all between 18 and 21, which is massively popular in my university. Some of them say they just wanted to try it, they've got a better voice up there, or they just thought it'd be a fun thing to do. I say go for it and be proud of it

Ha, thanks about the range I can imagine what it was like before i messed my voice up, after i tested my range i practiced and my range really grew, it was A1 to D5 (head voice, not falsetto). I was a master of high notes, but i messed it up a little doing screamo incorrectly i guess. Didn't hurt it bad or anything, and i immediately stopped after that, it mostly just ruined my screamo voice. But i was able to hit insanely high notes with my regular head voice. Oh well, i still have a decent range. I had to get tested in front of everyone and i was so terrified that i didnt use falsetto because its so airy. I got from G#2 to B4(right below C5). My choir teacher really liked my high notes and my friend krystal said that im going to at least be a tenor, and she may still want to put me at alto if she hears my falsetto.
