I need your thoughts

I have come out to the CEO. He has promised me that my job is safe. My issue is the rest of the company. I have already changed my gender and my name is pending. In a few weeks, I will legally be .... Autumn ...... Since I'm a professional, I will have to change a lot of licenses and because it's medical, when I sign a document, it will have to be done with my legal name. That means the office needs to know.

I text the CEO and asked him if I should send out a letter or have what we call a town meeting tell everyone that way. He text me back saying he need time think about it, but thought a town meeting where he talked. I told him that would be great, but I need to talk too, just to tell people whats up. I haven't heard back.

Should I start writing my speech?

Well, you might want to start writing either way hon, use it as a speach primer or as a letter. Just my thoughts, maybe outline what you want to say now and wait til you know if you'll be making a speach or letter from that.

I am lucky in that when it was time to be outed where I work I received the day off with pay (on a Friday) when it was revealed. My HR took control. I am very lucky that my company is very progressive. I do push it at times but right now there haven't been any major problems. My manager warned me to tone it down and wanted to let him know when I make any changes.

I would suggest you not be there so those you work with are able to ask questions without being anxious of offending you if you are there.

If you want to write a speech Autumn, I'm sure there is a lot of of info here from others who did the same thing.

Jenny, I missed something in your post.

You have changed your gender? You have legally changed your name? Or you just came out got the office that you are trans? I don't really care if they know I'm transmonly that I'll be going by .... Autumn ......

Because the documents I write are legally part of the medical record and must be signed by my legal name. Plus, all the results I post must be accompanied by my license number and legal name. So I have to tell them. I'm not sure I would want some bumbling baffoon in HR telling my story. Most of them probably don't even know what a trans is.

I'm gonna start writing my letter.

I'm sorry. Within a month I started taking hormones everyone at work knew I am trans. When I go to work as Jenny there will be another meeting that notifies my fellow workers I will be Jennifer from now on.

I not only wish you luck I will be thinking about you. I really hope everything goes smoothly. It's going to be a learning experience for everyone. I feel for you.

I would at least start writing some notes.

I think a two stage process would be nice. That is a session with fellow employees by H.R. that explains what is going on and company policies including a chance for questions and answers. Then have the second stage where you are there to answer any questions and maybe tell people yourself what is going on. The second part would make it more personal.

Well it sounds like a typical role transition at work.

I would avoid making it a great big deal to your coworkers. You aren't looking for sympathy, simply the cordial cooperation and respect that coworkers give each other. They dont need to know all the details or justificaion.

As a typical on the job transition, state your diagnosis, what it means in a simple sense, that it is a recognized medical condition, that the treatment includes gender role transition including the workplace. As such this will be taking place whenver it is, that it means this change, that your name change is in process and as of such and such you will be known as. You can also say a few words of explaination of what it is not about if there are aspects you wish to distance yoursel from such as it not being a fetish or whatever. Express your willingness to discuss it at the meeting or in private later for any who have any questions. Then open it for questions and answer them as they come. This way you are providing information relevent to what they are asking rather than ranbling through areas they may not care about.

I would also avoid trying to say it is normal...it may seem normal to you, but you can bet this idea isn't going to see normal to most.

It might also be good to avoid trying to explain why as that will get into areas of theory and self justifications that may seem defensive or could be argued. Stick to the "there are many theories, but it is just something that always been there and whatever the cause, it just is what it is".

Welcome to Trans Pulse, Bobbi.  It's nice to meet you.  I remember well all the emotions you mentioned upon starting on this journey, about 15 years ago now.  It's an exciting, albeit scary time, and there will be many questions and decisions along the way.  Any way we can help, all you need to do is ask.  We'll be here for you.   HUGS   Carolyn Marie

Everyone is their own person and has their own way of operating in the world. Being “enough” isn’t for anyone to judge, outside of maybe our closest loved ones, and definitely not those that are trying to measure themselves high by cutting others down. They know I wouldn’t succeed for very long—or at all—keeping my life bifurcated as you, but I am happy you are content with where you’re at with yourself.

My kids are grown now.  I realize I don't know the half of what they did.  But my parents didn't know the half of what I did either.  It's just how it works.   You kinda know, but please spare me the details.

@MaeBe, Good luck and best wishes on the new start in the Great Northwest. I don’t know a parent that didn’t call out their kids for being drunk or high as rebellious teenagers. I just told my teens that they can’t kid a kidder, and I was a teenager early 1970s we could drink legally at 18 so I have tons of experience spotting drunk kids.    As for the poetry, I liked it.  We never have enough support bras or tee shirts in the rotation.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Oh my @KymmieL, I’m sorry you’re on the job hunt again. They didn’t seem to be a good fit for you anyway. You deserve to be treated fairly and not undermined by competing owners who don’t communicate well.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums.    @BobbiSkunk I’m also working through my late in life transition. You are among like minded people here. Feel free to join in on any of the threads you like. I’m sure others will drop in and say hi. Remember we’re family friendly with potential minors in the conversation so we want to keep everything PG.    Best wishes, stay positive and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Greetings everyone,   This is my introduction, I'm old and like donuts!  Let's see, what else...   I started my transition VERY recently, 5/17, after feeling like I've been uncomfortable doing it for like 20 years.  I lived in states where LGBT rights are strained, and have recently moved to a more friendly state.  I'm short, like gardening and crafts and rain.  Still a huge mixture of nervous, scared, excited and elated to finally be in a position where I can start.  I'm kind of easily excited, have the attention span of a humming bird does that to one, and usually medicate that with video games.  Not much else about me for now.  Started exercising so I can get my weight down as part of the transformation.  Still, I joined as I have questions and wanted to be with like minded folks.   Also, love trading recipes.
