Can't think of an appropriate title

I don't usually write poetry, but I've always wanted to. The theme of this one is very specific, and while not directly (at least not intentially, if you find more meaning than what I meant, I'd love to hear it) related to my transness, it is about something auxillary. If you want a hint as to what it is, ask.

A barrier exist between me and the world

Interactions dull and lifeless

Friends whim I pretend to have

I look in their eyes and I must confess

Their thoughts, the workings of their mind

Trapped behind what feels like cold eyes

The emotion they project doesn't penetrate

Through the invisible disguise

A box been put up around me

That makes them distant

As far away as Alpha Centauri

I did not order this box

It just grew through the years

Some days it fades away

And I can understand their fears

Their fears and joys and deepest desires

Are apparent to me

But then comes back

And once more they fade

And I can't brace for the attack

Gone are the thoughts of emotions and motives

A cold calculus begins

Of the optimal path to wait out the day

Until I can feel again

And I stare at the ceiling

From loft bed, inches away

Thoughts swarm through my head

And gone is day

I forget of the box

The boundaries, the pain

As the numbers bounce around

And I try to put them together

But the exhaustion confounds

My thoughts start to diverge

Like a thread unraveled

And I fall asleep slowly

Conscious devalued
