Progesterone is it helpful

I went to a transgender health conference this past weekend and one of the clinic's I attended was about HRT for transwomen. I learned somethings about progesterone that has convinced me I need to take it.

The dominance of estrogen in menopausal women can cause insomnia and depression. Adrenal fatigue, and lower cortisol levels can also occur. I am going to ask for bloodwork to check for these issues because the also can cause insomnia and depression.

What does this have to do with progesterone? Well it is the treatment for any of the above conditions. E and P work together to produce balance. Too much of one or the other can cause problems. What does E do with P? It upregulates the receptors or causes more of them to form on the cell membrane. What does P do with E? It increases the sensitivity of the cells to E.

I don't know why I didn't research these hormones together in the past, but if you do a google search with both terms you will get a good picture of how these two can effect your mood and other issues. You will than be able to have an educated conversation with your Dr.

.

I've been on P for almost 2 years and the only thing that I can attest to is that it makes me an emotional mess for 10 days out of the month...

A couple of days ago I was with my new doctor (a post-op trans woman herself) and she told me to go ahead and stop them....there has been no benefit....

I was first on Prometrium and then Medproxy....

Did you experience a difference on the different types. From what I have read cycling is not necessary. Did you ever try to stay on it for the whole month. I guess everyone is different and that needs to be recognized.

I went to my ob-gyn to get my checkup. She did her normal thing and felt my breasts, although growing, needed help to fill in. She told the Prometrium will not make them bigger, but fuller.

I've only been on them for about a week or so, but the one thing I noticed is the flashes about an hour after I take it. Wow! One second comfy, then I'm sweating, then I'm cold, them I'm sweating. I love it!

I've been having a pretty good couple weeks so I don't know if it's done anything in the psych dept. I've seen no breast growth yet.:-(.

On the Prometrium for over a year and took it all 30 days of every month....

The second year on Medproxy I've taken the first 10 days of the month....

I was crazy on both of them!

I was on medroxyprogesterone in the very beginning and I had hotflashes as well when I cycled it. But, if you look at the side effects of E and P side by side it is E that is responsible for the hotflashes. What I gather from this is that the one effects how the other interacts in the body.

If I go back on it I want to try prometrium and not cycle it. It may be helpful to my mood and help me sleep so I can get off of the Ambien I am taking. If it works out oraly I will ask for it in my injections. Fewer pills and less work on the liver.

Another thing that I learned in the clinic is that while sex hormones have very little drug interaction they do stake up space in the liver. The liver can only proccess so much and when it is maxed out that's it. That means that if it is being taxed with the processing of one substance another one can't be proccesed. This of course is happening on a molecular level. Some enzymes though will have an affinity for one type of reaction over another.

It all gets very complicated very fast and is why a Dr is needed. This does not mean though that they are always aware of every issue that needs to be watched.

The biggest difference is that Prometrium is made naturally from extracts of yams.....

Medproxy is manufactured......

I been on several regimens. It all is mostly hocus pocus in my opinion.

What one finds researching has little meaning unless one is able to look at it critically and to do so in a sensible fashion requires the experience the professionals have. Otherwise one can read just about anything they want out of the available information.

I have a question.

What type of research has been on this? Specifically double hormone HrT for transwoman?

From someone I know I got the impression that there really hasn't been real clinical validation of a benefit only inferences.

Other than the basic "hormones are an effective treatment for trans" type of conclusions, to my knowlege there is nothing that amounts to clinical trials of different regimens in trans folk that measured the relitive effectivness.

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.

I am so glad you enjoy them as well. The help things “stay put” so well. It got me through some of my most dysphoric times.   Wow, I hadn’t heard this at last week’s Zoom meeting if you had mentioned it. That is a huge milestone April Marie.I have no doubt that this confidence will only grow in time. The freedom of being yourself, especially in public, is a wonderful feeling. I am truly happy for you.😘   *Big Congratulatory Hug* Susan R🌷

@Abigail Genevieve, that is not an appropriate question, IMO.  This isn't the Army/McCarthy hearings.   Carolyn Marie

Don't think Americans would go for the "compulsory" part. We kind of like not being told what to do ... Amazingly, there is great pushback on voter ID laws. The opponents say it discourages voting, especially among the poor and minorities. That is really a smokescreen IMO for those who want to harvest ballots from as many places as possible, including folks who don't exist or don't hold citizenship...

Pretty soon I think I might be ready to talk about gender-affirming care for kids, possibly w/r/t the Cass Review and its shortcomings.

She was a beautiful young woman ...   "What we do know is that the offender was a very violent individual and should not have been on our streets.”  Whether gender related or not, the mental health and incarceration issues in our country are incredibly bad and need to be addressed.

April,   I'm glad my entries are interesting to you.  TransCentralPA is a great organization with so many caring people.  I would strongly recommend you find a way to attend the Keystone Conference.  I guarantee you'll find it an amazing experience.     Hugs,   Sally

Dear @Sally Stone.  I think you should author a memoir based on these posts (maybe you're already working towards that?).  You could decide at a later time if/when you might want to publish.   I appreciate you sharing your deep connection with your friend Willa (and I am sorry for your loss) and the benefit of having a Trans friend and mentor in our Life and Journey.  I was fortunate to have found one also in our TGP friend @Kasumi63.   As you know we share many common Life themes in our stories.  Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat about it.  Looking forward to the next 'chapter'.

Voting is compulsory here, for better or worse. Would doing the same in the US snap people out of their apathy?

I am noting you use CRT terminology.  The comment is not out of the blue.  Some of your remarks on religion suggest atheism.  So it is believable that you are a Marxist, knowingly or not.  Are you?
