I came out to my best friend last night.

So, I came out to my best friend last night, and I'm surprised to say he took it really well. I knew he would accept, I just didn't know he would be that cool about it. I basically consider him my brother, so it was really important that he knew. But I don't know. I guess I expected it to change our friendship a little, but we continued talking we always do. It was really nice. :)

lol. Honestly, I was preparing for him to think I'm kidding, and that I would have to convince him I wasn't. Kind of my fault, though. I tend to send him pointless random texts like, "Dude, I have superpowers! Let's fight crime!!!" or "Meet me at the cemetery: It's ghost hunting season." On a quick side note, I feel like after telling him, I'm questioning more whether or not I am trans. It's been kind of on and off this whole week, but I seemed to spiral later that night after I told him. Is this weird? I may post something about this in the regular forums later.

Thanks everyone for reading! :)

Hi Izzy,

I know what you mean. I've been disappointed that some have accepted it so easily and then we just carried on like nothing was different. I know that's the result we want, but I can't help thinking a little special attention would also be nice.

Go figure, I guess we might be a little complicated sometimes.

Hugs,

Shari

It could be a couple of things. They may need some time to digest what you said and will talk to you about it later.

If your the joking kind or seem to say off things at time they may think you are just playing with them again.

Or, they may think that yes this is who you are and have always been and it does not matter to them because they are your friend no matter what.

.

Honey.......don't stress.....

You had a good outcome......you may want to think about seeing a gender therapist to help you with your feelings...

ii know, I'm doing my best not to worry until I find a gender therapist. The therapist I am seeing right now I thought was a gender therapist (it said she was on the insurance website, buti guess that was an error) but it's cool because she's helping me with my OCD and helping me find a GT. :) Now I just have to wait to see if any of the people I called on Friday call back during the week. Fingers crossed!

This is a roller coaster ride for sure with the good things like being accepted by a friend followed by those doubts and fears so that we are up one minute and down the next. But just hang on -the ride does begin to smooth out with time.

Congratz on how your friend too your disclosure. In the long run that will be far more important than the spiraling.

I spiralled a bit after I told one friend. Didn't help that it was a day before my final exam! Just let it be, and watch the general movement, not every spot of turbulence. I'm glad he was cool with it anyway! :)

Yeah, I've just been feeling like I may be happier as a gay male for the last week or so, which scares me for some reason. :(

Sorry. I know this isn't the part forum to talk about this sort of thing. Anywho, thanks everyone for the responses! ^_^

It's good to hear some positive notes through all the negativity about at the moment. I am not religious but do see a lot of positivity in many things they do, outside of the normal media attention.   Tracy

From what I understand, my GF's early life was influenced by supremacism.  She sniffed around the edges of a couple of groups, and ended up for a while as part of an armed communist organization.  Mostly, just looking for a place to belong, and something to struggle for (and against).  She's told me about some of it, no doubt just the heavily edited Cliff Notes version.  But she did say that hatred takes effort.  It isn't something you're born with, its something you learn or that develops, often through suffering.    I think perhaps it is easier for children of supremacists to leave and do something different than it is for people who come to it through their own experiences.  When they are shown kindness by folks who are different from them, it begins to crack the wall.

I've come to the understanding that most Angry and Intolerant people are that way because they haven't discovered their True Self.  So they lash out at others instead of seeking internal discovery ... whatever that is.  So for me ... it is not a Surprise but a welcome Celebration of the individuals Humanity.

Bravo! @Vidanjali!   Their objective is to steer 'the Youth' in a different (and more conservative/intolerant) direction, but they don't realize they will actually push them away and lose them in the long run.

That's good, glad things will resolve on their own. 😉

@awkward-yet-sweet, bummer about the road trip that isn't. Next time!   @KymmieL, good luck with the job hunting, you deserve it.   @Birdie, I'm happy for you that you have a new connection who seems so supportive!   @Ivy, enjoy!   The issue I referred to in my little grizzle the other day looks like it will resolve itself without conflict. Everything is good. 🙂

One of the reasons that I hesitated to sign up to this forum originally was because I couldn't think of a femme name for myself. That stems from the fact that I wasn't seeking one, and still don't, although lately I have become a bit curious.   My username has geographical and astronomical connections. It is an indigenous word that describes the Southern Cross constellation.

Again, thank you for these posts @Sally Stone. As a person just embarking on their own exploration, seeing through an eagle’s eye is invaluable. I can understand the desire to compartmentalize. I’m coming out at 47 and have several military affiliated friends. I never served myself but know them via hobbies we share. I’d be nervous about coming out to those whom I didn’t know very well, but some I do know better are openly ‘queer’. Meeting these people definitely challenged my existing stereotypes about the military in a positive way; more regarding those who comprise the services as opposed to stated protocol/mission.
