Braiding

I've found that long hair is the easiest to braid. In my estimate, shoulder length would be long enough to start with for some of the more fancy up-do braids. Long hair works best for the more traditional style of braids.

I've actually messed around braiding to create wavy hair. My hair is around 6 inches and I've put 1/2 dozen braids in it just to play around with hair styles. It produces results when the hair is done damp... but it sounds like you are just looking for a braid in back? or one on each side? Definately need more than I have...
