Lilith Vain

Rampant desires, by her claws, set man's soul a' fire.

And to their dismay, by her will, heaven wouldn't have its way.

And by savage winds that bellow, by her whisper, gusts a sway of men below.

For none had more distain, than her's, that leaves severed hearts upon blood stones stain.

Now upon this time, she sits, on a hallowed throne made of her un-saintly crime.

Know her now, as Lilith, with serpentine guile leaves all crying "By God, how?"

The name Lilith may have a little questionable origins... but its a pretty name no ? ^_^

And questionable in multiple layers... Sure she was supposedly a nasty baby eating

demon and everything, but what got her there is a little...

Lol, yes it is a very nice name, just unfortunate about the negative theological stories about her, as well as other people's personal belief in her and perceptions about who/what she is and how she came to exist. I find Lilith to be both beautiful and tragic. Sort of a struggle to be herself, but denied her will; then turned to a monster as she was consumed by her own rage, Hell-bent on malicious wrath against man. A fine example of what happens when someone gets backed into a corner. Someone denied the right to be what they are. This as a perspective...

Lilith - I don't know every story about her, but I do know one of the earlier biblical versions. I remember origionally she was Adam's first wife made from the same clay God used to create both, and thus both were equal. However that story changed early in history during the rise of patriarchy. The next version consisted of Lilith refusing to lay under Adam because they were equals, and eventually she left Eden as a result. After Adam complained to God that he was alone God sent Gabriel after her to bring her back, saying "Man should not lie alone" or something like that. When Lilith refused to return she was cursed and became a demon and 100 of her children would die every day for all eternity. Then God made Eve from Adam's rib. There's another version where Lilith lays with Gabriel and becomes the first succubus, then another where she seduces Cain and actually convinces him to murder his brother, and yet another where she actually returns to Eden as the serpent to trick Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. Most versions seem to condemn women as being inferior to men and the cause of all sin in the world, despite it being untrue. With Patriarchy slowly giving way to equality between the sexes Lilith seems to be omitted entirly from the modern day Bible. That's where I learned the name anyway, personally I think it's a beautiful name with a strange sense of mystique to it, perhaps due to the various natures of dozens of different stories.

Whatever the case - a very well writen poem. Both vivid and yet shrouded.

*hugs*
