Hi everyone I'm Leslie so I don't know if u girls know alot about this site the ******* project but for the last couple months I been buying herbal hormones from there *********************** calm and ******* (I know I prob spelt them all wrong but I don't feel like getting out of my cozy bed to get the bottles) so I guess my question is do these herbal hormones work by them selves am I just wasting my money are they just additives to take with chemical hormones. Any way thanks for reading my horrendously written question it's 5am and I can't sleep LOL thanks again xoxoxoxoxoxo

Hi Leslie,

Yes we have heard of this project and I'm afraid we cannot endorse it. Herbal hormones are not regulated and there's no way of telling what you are actually getting. To get any effects at all, you would have to take mega-doses and that would be extremely toxic to your system. The risks are stroke, heart attack, blood clots and liver disease. Although there are a few who will tell you that they do work, by and large, they do not. I would advise that you go to a doctor for legal hormone prescriptions. You're wasting your money on these products.

That's wat I was afraid of my altho that is the the proper route to take I really don't think my insurance will cover the therapist or the medication, and I just don't make nearly enough to cover the cost on my own :( I really don't know what else to do.

Thank you for taking the time to read and help me.

Hi Leslie,

You're welcome. I'd check to see if your insurance would in fact cover therapy. Many will treat for depression caused by gender dysphoria. It's worth a try.

Leslie,

It is possible that in the long run you would invest less than you are on those useless herbs. There are online therapists that are much less expensive than face to face for the most part. You need to be careful to verify online therapists because there are frauds and fundamentalists posing as therapists out there but the site has a list of verified therapists. They work in different ways so if one won't work for you keep checking with others.

Also many Gender Therapists also charge a sliding fee scale. Therapy is not as expensive as most fear.

And HRT is very inexpensive. I can't remember the exact amount but do remember that it was less than I spend for my thyroid or even the coffee I make each day.

Your biggest expense often is the blood test and those aren't frequent.

I know people talk a lot about the cost of transitioning but often they are referring to the surgery and that IS expensive. Very. But HRT- especially with the new Standards of Care? You can do that cheaper in the long run than trying to get around it and doing dangerous alternatives.

It's okay, Leslie. By far you're not the only one who didn't check out the rules. :D As Johnny said, it's probably not as expensive as you might think to go the legal route.

Leslie, you say you are in Calfornia, and we have some of the best and most reasonable cost options for Gender Therapy, here in several places. L.A., San Diego, and San Francisco all have GLBT centers that have medical and counseling on a sliding scale, and they also have co-operating pharmacies that keep the prices low for the clinic patients. The center down in LA was going to be trying the online counseling via SKYPE, but I do not know if it is running yet. Also, to sell health insurance here in Calif, the insurance companies pretty much have to cover your counseling and your medications under state law. Now that GD is being classified as a medical condition, medications for HRT are just like penicillin or insulin. The SRS may not be covered, but in a couple of years, it may come along. See if you can get a job with the City Of San Francisco, their employees do get SRS covered.

I did try the "herbal approach" back in my CD days (CD can also so mean Crazy ((as in wacko)) Dude) and they tasted awful, and supposedly the ones I was taking were made from non supermarket cuts of cow (no bull) and smelled like them. I tried them for $80.00 worth for a month, and they did nothing but leave a foul taste in my mouth that also limited my social life. (Bad breath) Needless to say, after that experience, ------ well, you get my point. (My co-pay per month is $5.00/prescription for prescribed HRT.)

On MD prescribed HRT, it is so much easier on you that you can ENJOY what the real strength and human intended hormones can do, you are not a Hydrangea or a Calla LIly, or even a corn stalk, which is where phyto estrogens do their best and only reliable work.

Your situation is not hopeless, and welcome aboard here.

I'm glad I read this post. Before I found the GT I am going to start using, I was considering buying from them. I am glad now I did not and I am planning on doing HRT through my GT if he recommends it.

I attend a medical day-centre in Texas for needed medical services. It's religious oriented, so not gender fluid friendly. I of course dress 100% in female attire yet androgynous to keep both "them happy", and I really don't mind.    I of course am imposed rules that no other participant is bound by. The examples are the allowed size of my backpack, or how many visits per day I can see my Representative payee.  The gender neutral restroom use was a compromise that all off us have agreed to.  Not being able to wear tanks tops or shorts that aren't "Bermuda length" are other examples of where I am restricted more than any other participant. "Bra talk" is strictly forbidden, even though their doctor and occupational therapist were the ones that told me I needed support due to neck pain.    I found myself being reprimanded by staff three times yesterday for very petty details, and they have constantly pushed for me to remove myself from the program voluntarily. I am of course someone not welcomed in the program, but federal discrimination laws prevent them from removing me. They instead are just making life miserable with the hopes that I will leave on my own.

Nope.  I live in a rural area.  Pride events are for city folks.  The normally quiet LGBTQ+ club kind of changes atmosphere during that time, and things get a bit political.  As a non-Democrat, I avoid it.

For me, definitely the size thing.  I'm 5'4" on a good day, and 100lbs.  I can pass as a teenage boy, but never for my real mid-30s age.  And since my husband looks older than his age, I'm often assumed to be his kid.  Or folks think there's something illegal going on.      Also, my lack of the typical aggressive "masculine" demeanor.  I don't really desire the typical masculine social role, nor could I do it even if I tried really hard.  I'm usually quiet and kind of timid.

I am sorry for your struggles. I cannot empathize, but I can surely sympathize. I wish only the best for you!

No, they are the only provider of services I need an my area. 😑

My size. A lot of guys aren't 5'3" at seventeen. My hands. It's a less noticeable one, but my hands are very "feminine"? If you know what I mean. My voice. Very high-pitched. I don't just sound like a female, I sound like a little girl sometimes My chest. I've had to stop binding due to frequent aches doing so, and it's not nearly small enough to just cover with baggy clothes My family. They still call me she/her, so that's an automatic out. My anxiety. I might be able to pass better if I had the courage to correct people. Instead, I'm too scared to speak up, so I find it hard. My lack of men's clothes.   Anyone else have these problems, or other ones?

From what I have read and heard most people are so.busy with their everyday lives and either looking at their phones or in a hurry to notice you out and about.

This exactly ^^^   I actually really liked games where I was required to play a male character. It felt homey, in a way.

Yes, our little town is having its 3rd annual Pridefest. I've volunteered the first two years  from setup to tear down (though I do take an hour off to eat and drink in the middle).     Then I attend a bigger one a couple towns over that has had some decent entertainment from some semi-famous folks (Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson, Carmen Carrera, Judy Gold, etc).    This year I made sure to ask off of (weekend) shifts to attend a 3rd one where a group I'm in is in the parade.

Hi Vicky, I agree with you, so far since the time I've been under the new treating doctor's care, she prescribed me medication, but it's for children lol  luckily  my pharmacy warned me from a phone call not to take the medication.
