What are your memories of your first dress?

Mine was a shock of recognition. Completely unexpected. I had been wearing female underwear and loungewear for almost a year, so I was excited about wearing a dress, but nothing more than excitement about something new. Yet, when I put on my dress (a blue-green below-the-knee ruffled tube dress), it blew my mind. There "I" was, a woman. Endorphens rushed into my brain. It was a like a birth, of myself. If I had any doubts about my femininity, they left me that day.

I was about 6 -7 years old, and in the attic was an unlocked trunk. My first complete dress up was my Mother's wedding gown. It was to be quite some time before I would look and feel so feminine as that day in her gown in the full length antique mirror. Maybe this is the reason that I'm drawn so much to Renaissance gowns.

My first dress I was 13 or 14 years old,my sister and a friend of hers dressed me and put make up on me,then I went and looked in a mirror and I saw this really beautiful girl,I was a knock out, scared me so bad to realise, what would others think of me,I was getting picked on and beaten by others so much at the time,I thought they would even be harder on me,but inside of me,I loved the beauty I had as a lady on the out side and when I turned 19 I loved she males, about the only thing I would look at when I was by myself,in skin books, they turned me on so much, but I waited a long time, because I was scared of what other's around me would think, now I don't care, left my whole life behind me and am becoming what I love. The first time I put on my own first dress and did my makeup and hair and then looked inthe mirror, I can tell you that the sound that came out of my mouth was a soft "whoa!". I will never forget that moment as long as I live unless I get Alzheimer's. Also my heart skipped a beat and I never knew what that meant until that moment.

The first dress, as far as I can remember was a short sleeve, short mini-dress, all reds and gold, satin and it actually fit me and felt wonderful.

The last I remember of it was been caught by my mother, well I was in my teens at the time, didn't go down very well shall we say.

Nearest I've got to that first dress is a chinese red & gold Cheongsam. Bit like this one but in red rather than blue. A few sizes bigger than that first dress mind you!

How funny Petra Jane! My first dress was a red and gold Cheongsam also! It fit wonderfully when I first bought it but about a year later I tried it on and apparently I had gained a little weight because the zipper got stuck and I had to break to get out of it x.x When I get down to my goal weight I'll look into having it repaired and seeing how it fits then.

Hi, my first dress was a beautiful black dress by Jones of NY, the fit was perfect and it made me feel so feminine.

I still have it and wear it on special nights!

I was 17. I took a bus to London just to do some dight seeing. I found this little PVC number in the window but was too scared to go inside and buy it. I walked around for ages and I got the shakes as I KNEW I had to go buy it. After 3 hrs I plucked up the courage and went in the shop and downstairs to the woman's department. They only had it in a small size. I asked if they had any larger in stock. The guy said no and aksed if it was for me. I said NO but bought it just the same. I got home to my parents and couldn't wait for bedtime. I put it on, it was very tight but fitted. My first dress and it felt amazing. Just amazing. I had waited years for that moment. It was after that night I knew I needed to go all the way and buy make up, wig and shoes. That first time you put on a dress, that's when you know this is going to be a long term side of your life.

I put on my first dress yesterday! :) It was my big sisters year twelve formal dress. She's my size both height and girth so it fit great. It was a beutiful ivory corset with a flowing chafon train just a few shades lighter. I also put on tights, high heels, makeup and a special "Breast booster" padded bra that also belonged to my sis. I felt soooo feminine and it was great! Because of that dress I now know that crossdressing is absolutely my thing. Now I just have to find a way to tell my parents and sister that I'm both as bent as a wheel and like stealing there clothes and dressing like a woman. Heh, there's time for that later. Right now I'm still in shock about how that dress made me feel!

I started out with undies, bras and lingerie. That lasted quite a few years till one day I decided I wanted more. My first dress was a blue and white sweater dress. That was over 10 years ago, I outgrew it a few years ago and got rid of it. Now that I lost over 35 pounds this year and they came back into style I could kick my own butt, Id luv to have it back again. Hoping to go shopping soon and get a new one, always liked that style.

For me, it started with hoisery, not the dress. My first experience was trying on my mother's tights. The sensation of the nylon against my skin is what hooked me.

Oddly enough (because I actually just made one....) my first dress was a handmade Renaissance dress that fit me perfectly at the time...

I wore that silly thing off and on for years!

I used to borrow my sister's dresses to try on, but they barely fit, and it was just an exercise in futility back in that day. My first real dress I enjoyed in this era was a sweater dress I bought only last year. It was an awesome feeling to have something that fit, and to build an outfit around it. Now I have several dresses, and still seek more.

Oh the first dress,,,that first time you really start turning into the feminine form you really love to be. For me I was about 20, still cannot say why it took me so long to put on a dress since I had been wearing lingerie since my pre-teens...but what a feeling...Oh I was wearing a dress. A very casual, every day dress, but it was a girl's dress...and I was wearing it, and lingerie too...I was a GIRL. I still have the same feeling everytime I put on a dress or skirt and this is 40 years latter...I LOVE it..everytime I have an opportunity to put on lovely silky lingerie...and a Dress...Heaven for me.

Hugs,

Brenda

My first dress I ever put on was my mothers. I was about 10 or 11. I went all the way, bra panties slip heel and a wig. I never felt so confortable with my body in my life. I loved it yet hated myself for doing it. That was in the late 60s, As I said I hated myself for doing it, but I never stopped. Later after I moved out I would buy a nightgown, nylon of course, wear it a few times then through it away and not crossdress for several months. that went on tell I was 50. Then I ment my wife was totally honest with her about my liking to wear womens clothes. She was the first person in my life I ever told. But thats another story.

Glad to be among sisters,

Tina

Ha! First 'dress' I wore, my mother made out of kraft paper (I helped), and I wore it that afternoon, outside. I was about 4 or 5. First 'real' dress I wore, I was 16, and it was one of my mothers, a 1950's 'cocktail party' dress, brown with white polka dots, flared skirt, fitted bodice. I loved it. First dress I bought was a yellow sheath, summery, it was too small. Mail order, and I was not about to return it. Since then, I've figured out my correct size.

I was 14 or 15 and while home alone got the nerve to try on my older sisters prom dress from the year before. Standing in front of the mirror I was amazed as how good I really looked and loved it. I tried on other clothes of hers as time went on. After moving out of our house at 19 I found myself in a thrift shop looking at dresses. The clerk who was a sweet asian lady of 50 immediately realized what was happening and approached me about sizing. She acted like it was no big deal and found a few dresses and skirts in size 8 and sent me in the dressing room. I walked out of there that day with four purchases and was dressing en femme every opportunity I had. I had realized it was more than just sexual excitement but a persona and character I needed to be.

My fist dress was and still is my wife's. I still don't have my own but it seems to be the epitome of femme wear and it kills me that I still don't have one. I feel fab wearing them and am looking for the right occasion to get one. I think about it often and what kind I would get. Probably a pin-up dress. I can't wait.

I think I had a few skirts before this but Mine was a very nice pink sweater dress with 3/4 sleaves had wide white lace at the bottom and in the front to fill in the V cut. I had found it at the thrift store. I think I had it for a couple years before the wife purged it on me

The first dress I found that fits right and looks good with my foam padding and such is a pink spandex number with short sleves. It rides just above my knees and with white stockings and my silve platform stilletto heels it makes me look very fem. I can't help but play "Man, I feel Like a Woman" when I wear it and I dance around like a little girl.

There certainly is something about a real dress that a skirt and top doesn't do.

While the Soviet Union did not end up being the source of all evil, I believe that history has shown that Joe McCarthy generally was right. There ARE all kinds of Marxists slithering around. And if that had been dealt with firmly 75 years ago (or more) the nation wouldn't be in the shape that it's in now.    And while I generally oppose the idea of intervening in foreign affairs, the world probably would have been better off if we had taken care of issues in Russia and defeated the Bolshevik Menace back in 1919. God bless the memory of Admiral Kolchak.   Getting back to project 2025, my belief is that Republican efforts are inappropriately focused on trans folks. A minority of a minority does not wreck a nation. But it is easier to focus on trans folks because they can look like they're doing something. They don't have to address the real problems, and really they don't want to address them because they would have to address themselves.  They would also need to admit that the 50 State version of the USA cannot be saved.

@Willow things went pretty well on Monday. I have been working on the project all week long. I've been hanging out with my husband a lot, since he said that nobody would mind because I'm working on company stuff. My work is going slowly, but it is going. Rather better than I had hoped.   I ended up waking up late this morning. After 18 months of only working on house chores, not really used to doing anything else. Actually a little bit tired

Getting back to this… I've seen objections to Critical Race Theory, but simply "critical theory" is a new one on me.  I think we need to be "critical" about a lot of things, or at least examine why we believe what we do about them.  If they stand up under scrutiny, great.  If not perhaps we need to look at something else.   Not all socialists are Soviet Russian Communists. I have read very little Marx myself.  That kind of writing bores me quickly.  But I think there are legitimate concerns about unfettered capitalism.  There are countries that seem to do well on a mixture of capitalism and socialism.  But I am no Tankie.   The Red Scare kinda morphed into the Lavender Scare, and now we have this Transgender Scare.   The thing is, most people are scared to get to know any of the people they are scared of. I'm not scared of evangelical christians.  But I am a little scared of what they seem ready to do to me, because they are scared of me. I am not a scary person - don't want to be.  I'm just an old trans woman trying to mind my own business, and get with what's left of my life. And the 2025 project seems to be designed to make that difficult.

My mom has been more accepting of me being trans lately and even promised i could get a binder if i pay with my own money. The preferred name is still an issue. So far my mom, close friends and brother know i identify as trans but no one else does. I recently told mr grandparents about my partner and explaines the perferred name as a nickname they prefer to have. Luckily everyone who knows is accepting but i feel like i still have so much progress to make. Started getting more uncomfortbale being reffered to as my deadname and she/her in public. My therapist is getting me a trans pin for my birthday next time I see her. I have hop but sometimes I feel like the goal is so far. HRT and top surgery are things i know i want but there has been warnings given to me about the problems that come with it from the ones that have accepted me and I trust most. Mainly from the adults in my life that know, also been getting nervous many people dont see me as a man but i also go to an all girl school. being consistenly reffered to as women has started to get to me and have had urge on several occasions to write perferred name on paper. i dont think pereffered name can go into school system due to being catholic school and for graduation diploma we have to contact the person in charge and ask. I just need some advice on what to do, I am thank ful for the advice everyone had given me, made me feel better about future and hope that I can transition but also worry about familial ties and affect. due to most f them being born in the 80's and 90's and not taking it well originally mostly based on my moms reaction. I love my family alot but how they might react is scaring me. my mom still donesnt want them to know. I know they love me but when I eventually come out and medically trasition in several years hopefully, what will happen? there are little kids in the family and I already dont see them a lot, how would their parents react? what would they say to the kids? I know my aunt would not take it well due to political belief and warnings from cousins.

Maybe.  But they'd probably resent being required to do it.   IDK.  You have to show ID to register already.  And you have to be registered to vote.

Hah! Woke up the Red Scare!   I’ve never read Marx. I tend to believe in the inherent goodness in people. I let their words and deeds change that. Insisting people are immoral/less than/should not exist, stripping them (or keeping them from) human rights, is an a most basic example of true evil. What evils do LGBTQ+ people present simply existing? How does the Right justify their crusade against us? What justifies the manufactured fear and loathing they spout every day about us?

Congrats on the new addition @Ivy I have the opposite I have 4 grandson and a granddaughter. 3 of whom are visiting this weekend. I am feeling better. I think the biggest thing is that I got some much needed sleep.   Well gotta go and speed sometime with the grandsons.   Kymmie

I saw this concert in which it is said that the famous phrase of Jon Landau "I saw the future of rock and roll and his name is Bruce Springsteen" comes from that night. By the way Bruce opened for Bonnie Raitt that night and she was the better performer . . . just sayin'.

Astronomy and astrophotography.  I have done a few public presentations on the subject and could most likely wing it for an hour without putting you to sleep.   On the other hand if you need a sleeping pill, I could also talk for an hour about flying and you'd be out cold.
