a very big tick in a very small box

I was filling out some housing forms last night (so many forms and so much red tape for something I already have a professional medical opinion that I need!) and just as I was expressing my discomfort to my partner at having to write my female name and wrongly gender myself on the forms I found a little row of tick boxes hidden away on the very bottom of the very last page 'Please tick the relevant box to indicate your sexuality: hetrosexual, bisexual, gay man, lesbian, transgender...' oh boy I have a box!

The moment was made even better when my partner allowed me to tick the bisexual box for her instead of her usual label of lesbian (which I try to be understanding about but it does leave those nagging questions of where I come in to that).

It may sound strange but that little tick box on an official form might just as well have signalled a fairy godmother to appear and declare that 'yes pinochio you are a real trans-boy'

There have been other things recently. I have had moments where I have felt myself gradually growing into myself. I have seen glimpses of possibility in the mirror (only when I can only see the reflection of my head and not my body and nothing solid yet but like shadows of who I will grow up into when I start T)....

But when I ticked that little box it felt like I stepped over some invisible line.

...so it will probably just go and fester in the back of some dusty old official filing cabinet somewhere in the council offices, but I'd frame it and put it on the wall if it was up to me coz right now it says something big for me!

That is great Gabe. The world is changing and becoming aware of us. It feels great when there is validation like that. I'm so glad for you.

When there are only binary gender boxes on a form I feel like I am telling a lie no matter what I check because I haven't legally become a man but I am also not a woman at all. If it's anything legal, or even potentially so like winning a drawing for instance, I have to lie even more and drop that old never really me name in too. Even worse. I hate to lie but they don't give me a chance to tell the truth.

I remember when those first glimpses started for me. It felt so good. So impossible still but so good. It just gets better. I have seen your pic by the way and I see the man. It shows. We always see ourselves through filters others don't have. So we are the last to see it.

And good luck with the housing thing

Gabe,

Checking those boxes are a big deal. We don't have them on all forms here but I remember even before I started officially transitioning seeing that box and how it made me feel. Then again an opportunity to check heterosexual and male. Again the feeling that is so hard to describe in words yet we know .

My dear friend and brother, reading this invisible line you have crossed makes me very happy for you. Here is a chilled coca cola for you to enjoy.

I've been through those invisible lines. Changes have been subtle but they have pivotal in my journey. Thank you for sharing, Gabe.

I hate those boxes and using my female name.

Here's one that irks me: I recently filled out a survey about my experience at my university and it let me have the option of leaving off gender and race, so I did. A couple weeks later, my father called and said the surveying service had sent him a letter asking for the information. Why make the choice to identify seem optional then?

We had soup and steamed rice for dinner tonight.  Simple, basic, feed-a-ton-of-people kind of food.  With strawberries for dessert!  We have a huge strawberry patch, so I spent a couple of hours this afternoon picking.  And there's some left over, which I put in the downstairs kitchenette.  Time for a late night snack!     Outside of meals, I mostly live by nibbling on fruit and a few green things.

Well, it is officially summer.  85 degrees outside the last two days, and GF is sick and irritable.  I have to curl up under heavy blankets in my nest, because she's got the AC turned down to the point I expect to see icicles growing on the ceiling.  This is what life is like when your partner is an arctic creature. I should be used to it by now, but just when I think its nice and warm, she has to freeze me.

I just can't resist.  Does all that mean that.............the bird is the word?

Well, that might be interesting.  At least since she's 24, its not like you're on the hook for expenses.

Been using the wok on the back deck a lot the last few months.  Just got another stock of udon noodles from Amazon and we are using those in the stir fry with onions, peppers and a spicy peanut sauce.  I did this often in the 90's too, but back then I was just using a standard Coleman camp stove instead of this high BTU wok burner.  I've had the burner for a couple years, but haven't been using it regularly until recently.

I’m a lefty. Learned to be a bit ambidextrous for certain tools that assume right handedness like scissors, but couldn’t write with my right hand to save my life.

Tangent, adjacent, opposite...  It's still rock n' roll to me.  I don't know about the "in god we trust" part of the money, but I like the lady with the scale.  And then I look left at the Indian statue on my mantel of Guanyin feeding a drop of liquid to the dragon at her feet.  In god we trust?  The lady with the scale?  Maybe this is too binary.  And then on the other side of Guanyin is that kind of pelican wood bird that sits two feet tall that I hauled back from South America through the Panama canal.  The beak broke in 1998 and I carefully saved the pieces (as I usually do) and attached them back about a decade ago.  I used a drill to make a small hole and then put a finish nail in there.  Then a hole on those two pieces that needed to be attached.  Upper and Lower beak.  There is still a seam showing.  I could cover that up, but the beak is a bright yellow and well, it's better with all the pieces in place and I don't mind seeing the crack.  I guess that is the tangent and the other two are the opposite and adjacent. -money  Why don't coders always code the "-" action in their search fields?  It's not that difficult!

@April Marie Yes, it's something to shop for at least for 6-8 weeks.

Definitely points to learn and keep in mind.  A bunch of stuff I had put in mental "cold storage" thawed out a bit there and ready again to run through my mill.  As said, a bit long and as usual from her a tad bit challenging.  Overall I see it and can use it as a working hypothesis.

Yeah.  I like Nebula, that was where I watched it.   I posted the YouTube cause I figured more people could see it.
