a conversation with a christian friend

A few weeks ago I had a conversation with a christian friend of mine, he asked me some questions like (oh and these were AWKWARD) he asked if you were to go out with a person what gender would they be? I answered a guy but it really shouldn't matter because HRT really doesn't affect your attractions. and many other questions the conversation ending with a lecture how not HRT but SRS is a sin and after me telling him "yes I want to have SRS eventually" and he said I will never be a true christian.throwing my faith. He said wait 10 years to be sure but I can't wait that long I've been waiting all my life (I plan on telling my telling my parents this wk or next)

Sweety, please do not let someone like this have any impact on your decisions. This is YOUR life, YOUR body, YOUR transition. YOU guide how it goes. If your spiritually concerned, step away from the church and any other christians, and have a good long sit down conversation with your God. Then and only then will you know what to do.

While I am a Christian I have nothing in common in belief with someone like that but I do have a lot of resentment that they have twist and perverted a religion that is about love and increased individual acceptance into one of denial and condemnation.

I belong to a large mainstream denomination-one of the bigger ones too-whose church motto, which is oft quoted there, is "Open minds. Open Hearts, Open Doors". They mean it too. You don't hear much about them in the media because they practice their religion of love and acceptance rather than preaching about the failures of others at every opportunity. Even before I was a member I noticed if someone was in need it was that church who helped-no questions asked.

By the way they have also had more than one minister transition and stay with their congregation.

There have always been trans people (though of course by different names) and if Jesus had wanted them condemned he would have said so plainly instead of the convoluted ways that those who use religion against us do. But he was pretty plain about his feelings about those who use religion to push their narrow views on others. Sometimes I really wonder if some of those calling themselves Christians can really be reading his words at all.

So don't let this friend tell you what Christianity is, or dictate their narrow views to you. These are the three most commonly used words in the New Testament-1. – good 2. - I love 3. - love . If they are not the most common words also used by someone calling themselves a Christian then they do not practice my kind of, or biblicaly based, Christianity.

God dictates religion but it is people who interpret it and there is a long, long history of the perversion of religion for personal `reasons. Listen to your heart.

I'm agnostic and really don't dwelve deep into religion. But this is how I see it, God doesn't want you to lie, right? So by being true to yourself, you're also being true to God. You shouldn't let anything turn you away from being the person that you truly are. Therefore, taking the steps to your true self, is a righteous path.

It does not matter what the religion or spiritual path it is. There will always be those who take an extreme position about issues that "they" don't think will conform the the system. Don't ever take these people to represent the entire faith.

You might want to have your friend point out just where it is a sin to have surgery to correct a physical defect?

Rose,

You have received excellent advice from all and as long as you are okay with HIM, the rest of the opinions do not matter. Peace be with you.

Rose,

I believe somewhere in the Bible it mentions that you have an obligation to get the medical care necessary to treat illnesses, etc. Saying SRS is a sin is completely against that passage(those passages). That is just his opinion and don't let his ignorance and smalll mindedness stop you from doing what you think is right in the future.

I'm a masculine woman. It's not about masculinity though. It's about expanding what it means to be a woman.

It never rains but it pours.  We had a dry spring, but now my garden is a swamp and my yard is a pond.  Get off the gravel road, and you'd need a hovercraft.    With nothing better to do, I'm going on a short trip with my husband tomorrow.  Since he's in management he usually doesn't do this sort of work, but whenever he does I usually go along.  And he already knows not to try staying in a hotel, because I want to sleep in the bunk in the truck.  So much more cozy.    And for a couple of days, GF can actually take care of her own kids instead of leaving them to me....

I have played clarinet, but without talent.  And while I *can* sing, I think listening to it would be an acquired taste.

Hi Sally, okay I'll head on over to your post and check out your makeup techniques.

Hey all,   It's been a while, but I blogged a whole series on makeup.  It's an eight-part series where I talk about my techniques.   Here is the link to Part 1:       Hopefully the blog series is helpful.

Oh, I can relate to that one Vicky, leaving lipstick in hot weather  I've lost count how many times I had to purchase new purses.

Thanks for the replies, as an admin from my own group I understand the same rules, agreed.

I do spoken word acting, and give Trans 101 talks and other public speaking.  I wear make-up for those occasions.  Sephora is easy for me to get to, and has a foundation that does a good job for me and the sales folks there are Trans Friendly.  Their eye shadow pallets are also fun to use. Another source of my foundation is Ulta which carries Dermablend that does a consistent job of my lower face and chin.   I just use good old Revlon lipsticks because I ruin them by leaving my purse in the hot car too often.

I'm not interested in makeup, jewelry or nice clothes or girly stuff.  It's made me wonder at times.   It saves some money.  If I wore a skirt it would likely  be denim.  I thought about a woman's skirt suit but nah.   Neither of my sisters are into that stuff either.  One likes peasant chic (still a 60s flower girl)  and the other - the only time she has ever worn a dress was at her wedding.  Jeans at all other times.   Jeans and t shirt here.  Content being a girl.  Weirdo. Weirda? Never mind.

@Ladypcnj Before posting links to other group's websites, PM one of the Staff (preferably an Admin) and have them check that site out.   We have specific rules here regarding age appropriateness and would need to know that the other site is in line with those rules.  We do have members here between 13 and 18 and other sites need to be safe for that age range, legally and otherwise.  Also, we are not a dating or pick-up site, not do we allow people selling things to advertise here.  As I said clear the link with a moderator or admin before posting it.  Mod's and admins do check out posts and if we find problem links we will remove them and notify the OP of a rules violation.  Go to https://www.transgenderpulse.com/community-rules to understand where we are.

I raise my hand in the group, I have a question and a suggestion... is it allowed to share other new lgbtq+ website links here?
    • Ladypcnj
Yeah, ELF is a good brand, another brand is Revlon ColorStay last 24 hours.
