What's Your Favorite Western?

I don't think this topic has come up before. Yes, I do and always have loved western movies. There is just something about them that stirs my imagination and longing for adventure and wide open spaces. The true American adventure story.

My top three, in no particular order, are:

Lonesome Dove (yes, it was a television miniseries, but so what? It's probably one of the greatest westerns ever made)

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

The Searchers

I could easily name another half dozen, but lets see what you all come up with. Yeeee haaaa!

Cowboys and Aliens ! lol

The remake of True Grit was really good.

My all time favorite though are the Terrence Hill movies, especially "My name is Nobody".

Outlaw Josey Wales and, indeed, ANY Clint Eastwood western from back in The Day and most especially "the nameless stranger" spaghetti westerns!

Who is your favorite western movie badbutt villain dude? Mine is Lee van Cleef!

As teens, we brandished and smoked Marsh-Wheeling stogies in honor of Clint!

Did you say Lee Marvin?

Carolyn Girl, Lacey's time machine is taking her back to ... 1967!!!

LEE MARVIN ...Ernest Bornine ... Charles Bronson ... John Cassavetes ... Jim Brown !!!

Lee was The Main Mammajamma of that badbutted crew, as you will recall, oh, aging one.

Jim Friggin' Brown !!!

Lacey remembers watchin him play football watching games on TV with the old man ... back in the early 1960s. One time, four huge tackles, FOUR OF 'EM, pounced on Jim Brown to tackle him. This were BIG dudes, over 270 pounds each. Jim Friggin' Brown kept truckin' with four huge dudes on his back and hanging on to him! We say his feet haulin' butt carrying these guys down the field! He ran many years carrying these guys until they finally brougth him down. In his day, Jim Brown was the baddest of the bad on the gridiron.

Okay, golden girls, who remembers Ray Nitschke and penis Butkus?!?

Oh, my! I'm SOOO off topic, aren't I? Sooorrreeeee !!!

Carolyn! See what ya made me do? Flashback City, babes! Dang, I LOVE it!

Thanks! Ya made my day! Happy Holidays!

Ok, I am a Eastwood fan, make no mistake and I love Charles Bronson's westerns also, but my favorite western is 'Tombstone'. Can't help it. Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holiday was just too dang cool.

For me there are lots of memories af hanging out in the hills behind the house with my friends, big bonfire going, a swiped bottle of real Tombstone Whiskey, playing poker with a shot in the pot and the losers had to say a quote from a western movie while the winner drank up.

One of the 'baddist' of the bad guys was Jack Palance in Shane - barely spoke as Wilson, the hired gun - Alan Ladd played Shane.

Remade as Pale Rider with a few changes but Eastwood was the reformed gunslinger and the bad guy was John Russel.

I also love Silverado.

Love ya,

I love Westerns, though I feel like I can't say that somehow, because most of the Westerns I've seen and love are the Italian "Spaghetti Westerns" or the ever-depressing existential/revisionist Westerns. The ones I have in my collection are: The Dollar Trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars, etc.), The Great Silence, The Proposition, The Hired Hand, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Unforgiven, High Plains Drifter, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Joe Kidd, Once Upon a Time in the West, and (if it counts) Blazing Saddles.

Guess I am the oddball here. As for some reason I just can not stand westerns at all. Not sure why though.

Megan, I'll answer you as soon as I finish whittlin' this here piece of wood, and finish chewin' my jerky. Yee haw!

I am a big fan of westerns and it would be difficult to narrow this vast genre down to three. What comes to mind is:

The Shootist

Silverado

Open Range

I am an Eastwood fan any of his spag westerns rate high. John Wayne is the epitomy of the western actor. But lets not forget Yul Brynner:

The Magnificent Seven

I would be very hard pressed to pick a favorite.

The Magnificent Seven would be right up there at the top.

Any western with the Duke.

There were just so many classic westerns.

The Magnificent Seven is the U.S. version of The Seven Samuri and a great memory. On my birthday my mom gave me money to take my friends to a Disney movie but we saw the magnificent seven instead, except for one guy whowent home because he told his mom it was a Disney.

Aslo the classics The Oxbow Incident Fonda and Stewart, and Cooper in the Hangin' Tree.

More modern Once Upon a Time in the West.

Ok so I'm an old girl who grew up on westerns.

For me, it's Unforgiven. I cried at the end of that. I was riding my motorcycle home from the theatre and had to pull over I was crying so hard.

I also love Once Upon A Time In The West and Silverado and just about any of Sergio Leone's westerns with Clint.

And, for laughs, Blazing Saddles and Ruster's Rhapsody.

I've got the end title music on a CD, and it nearly brings me to tears. I love that music, which I believe Eastwood composed.

Not sure.  The perp is a minor.  The problem here is NOT transgender, the problem here is incompetent and criminal administration.  See https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/family-of-loudoun-co-student-sexually-assaulted-ineptitude-of-all-involved-is-staggering/3231725/ It is more than annoying that people think the problem here is TG and that other people think the solution is some stupid statewide law.  Like an appendectomy to deal with an ingrown toe nail.    Since Loudon, I recall a boy was asked not to use the girl's restroom at a high school by one of the girls.  He, overwhelming her with height and weight,  assaulted her, claiming he had a right to be there.   Later I think eight girls beat him severely in another girl's restroom.  Again the problem is not transgender, the problem is assaults in restrooms and common courtesy.  TG is used as a smokescreen and it seems to paralyze thought among administrators who do not want to do anything to provoke controversy.

Time to get with your Primary Care doctor and be referred to a neurologist or an orthopedist.  It could be many things, too many for any of us here to guess at.

Other than the Boy Scout motto, oath, and law. I use two:   When asked how I'm doing? In all honesty I reply. I would have to make something up to complain. If asked to explain further: I reply. I know someone is having a tougher time than I am, and I pray God blesses them.   I also recite this quote that I have tagged in my signature: Courage, doesn't always roar. Sometimes it's the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."-Unknown    Saying these things daily keep me motivated.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

If this goes on, I am conceding the real possibility of being stopped in WM or somewhere by a concerned citizen who tells me, "Lady, God made you female.  I don't think you should be trying to look like a man. You need to return to your true gender and be comfortable living your life out as a woman."   Begin odd and awkward conversation.  I have been thinking about this this morning.

There are many MAGA GOP types who are not transphobes, of course. Some MAGA GOP types are transgender.

I'm hoping to read the next section today.  Many of the reforms they are calling for are good, such as expediting the military procurement process, and have nothing to do with transgender issues.

Good afternoon,    I have a young friend who is vegetarian and married to a full on meat eater. They have two areas of their grill clearly designated for their different cooking requirements. When she’s cooking she uses tongs or chopsticks to handle any meats. When he’s cooking he respects her request not to cook her meals on the side where meat has been. They get along fine and respect each other.    When she attends our house, she usually brings her own food, but knows I will clean my grill to meet her requirements. We love and respect her commitment to be vegetarian. I love that she trusts me to make her comfortable when visiting us. There are ways to make it work.    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I was going to call it Numbness, then I realised well.. it isn't. basically, yeah, it isn't.   this only happens to me sometimes. I'll be lying down and my legs will.. well, I guess lock?   If I straighten them out, they will unlock- when I roll over again, they will lock again. this lasts for around 10/ 15 minutes I guess   it's not pins and needles either

so, a close friend wants to cook for me   the issue is, she is a vegitarian and won't handle meat- I, on the other hand, won't handle vegetables- hate the things   every time she goes out to the shop, she comes back with something.. a cake, a fruit smoothie, a coffee, I won't eat any of it. please help me think of something that she could make for me that I'll actually eat   disclaimer: you are talking to the most pickiest eater in the world. good luck
