.

I was 5 years old and living with a couple of cousins, grand parents, parents. It was in Georgia in an old mansion house.

One day everyone (grown ups) were all in the living room ...sitting around talking....

My older cousin, Linda, took me upstairs and made me up...cute dress, makeup, shoes...the works....

I was so very happy and I thought that I looked wonderful and I was SO proud!

She took me by the hand and said..."Let's go downstairs and show you off!"

YES! I wanted everyone to see how lovely I looked!

When we walked into the living room, all talking stopped and the laughing started. My parents yelled at me to get out of that stuff...."DAMNIT ...YOU'RE A BOY!"

Well, no I wasn't.....

I ran upstairs crying and took everything off....I cried all afternoon.....

In the following years I went so deep underground that you couldn't get me out with a crowbar.....

Thanks a lot, folks.......

It took me half a century, but.....I WIN!

Donna Jean, when I was about 5 an older daughter of an older friend would paint my fingernails and I loved it. She would talk to me as a girl the whole time. They didnt have any clothers that would fit me so it was just the nails. Well, of course, we were seen by my dad and "Uncle" Sonny and immediately they started picking on me. The didnt get mad, they just ridiculed me. My dad saying that maybe he should get some diapers. I REALLY think they just didnt understand the damage their words where doing but that also cemented in my mind that I had to hid this side of me at any cost.

Probably lots of us have similar stories and we all support you and each other.

Do we all have something like this? I suggest that this is very likely. So very unfair to be ridiculed for something we never asked to be.

gender dysphoric.

SUX don't it!

Actually, I think that it's cruel to make fun of children for any reason...small egos are so fragile!

I agree, Dear Heart...unfair......

The only plus side these days is that more and more parents are seeking help for their kids when they show the kind of behavior that we showed as children......

It could of saved us years of misery...

Yep, for me it was wearing my sisters nightgowns, and I got physically punished for it.

Dee Jay, and sometimes that pain still happens now and when that does, all we can do is be here for each other.

Education and being visible hasn't got us where we need to be but we are making progress. It is a lot easier today than it was for that little girl in Georgia crying her eyes out.,

We all really do have to come from some real adversity and face a lot of real pain but Donna you continue to be a shining example to us all that the past and all the pain it holds cannot hold us back from rising above it and finding ourselves. You believed in who you are and took a chance and now look at you in the winner’s circle. You got there and I pray we all will meet you there soon.

Most of us on this site can relate to my story one way or another..,....

Years of hiding, shame, disappointment, denial.....

Let's work for a better life for the younger ones...

for me, i wanted barbies, my little pony, etc. never got them, and when i put them in the cart, my parents took them out and loudly scolded me in front of the little boys, saying those are girls toys! you cant have girls toys! youre a boy!

when i got my own money for picking up pine cones for my grandad, i bought a my little pony, i was in second grade. i took it to school with me in my book bag. some of the boys found it, and ridiculed and sat on ke saying, youre a sissy girl!

later, with more money, i bought madonnas like a virgin tape. then i learned to play the guitar, music became my first escape. unfortunately, i could only listen to madonna when dad wasnt home. but he was working all the time, so i got to listen to it alot..joy! mom left us when i was three, so she wasnt in the picture.

i should have told my grandmama, about being a little girl, she would have gotten me help, and probably all the my little ponies i wanted. sadly, i was too afraid at that point, and already trying vehemently to fit in as a boy.

25-30 years later, I won too!

the joy and freedom of womanhood, at last! praise god!

love and hugs,

Eliza

i mistyped a key part of my story above, the boys ridiculed, and spat on me saying youre a sissy girl.

these darn smartphones, i mistype things and sometimes never know.

usually its easy to decipher, but spat on me is a little more harsh than sat on me.

lol!

When I was little little, my mom and sister put me in one of my sister's old onesies and took pictures. They thought I looked so cute and they both secretly wanted another daughter in the family.

...30 some years later they finally got their wish. Not sure why they weren't overjoyed when I finally came out but hey, that's all water on the knee now...or under the bridge...or something like that. You get the idea.

Yes we do have a lot of similar experiences, for me I was about 4 and my older sister and I were playing dress up - lots of petticoats were involved and we decided to go across the street to visit a neighbor - the older boys from a couple of houses up saw me and ran over to make fun of me and push me around for a little bit before an adult came out and I ran home - it was not my parents but the trauma stayed with me for a very long time too.

Love ya,

Sally

We had soup and steamed rice for dinner tonight.  Simple, basic, feed-a-ton-of-people kind of food.  With strawberries for dessert!  We have a huge strawberry patch, so I spent a couple of hours this afternoon picking.  And there's some left over, which I put in the downstairs kitchenette.  Time for a late night snack!     Outside of meals, I mostly live by nibbling on fruit and a few green things.

Well, it is officially summer.  85 degrees outside the last two days, and GF is sick and irritable.  I have to curl up under heavy blankets in my nest, because she's got the AC turned down to the point I expect to see icicles growing on the ceiling.  This is what life is like when your partner is an arctic creature. I should be used to it by now, but just when I think its nice and warm, she has to freeze me.

I just can't resist.  Does all that mean that.............the bird is the word?

Well, that might be interesting.  At least since she's 24, its not like you're on the hook for expenses.

Been using the wok on the back deck a lot the last few months.  Just got another stock of udon noodles from Amazon and we are using those in the stir fry with onions, peppers and a spicy peanut sauce.  I did this often in the 90's too, but back then I was just using a standard Coleman camp stove instead of this high BTU wok burner.  I've had the burner for a couple years, but haven't been using it regularly until recently.

I’m a lefty. Learned to be a bit ambidextrous for certain tools that assume right handedness like scissors, but couldn’t write with my right hand to save my life.

Tangent, adjacent, opposite...  It's still rock n' roll to me.  I don't know about the "in god we trust" part of the money, but I like the lady with the scale.  And then I look left at the Indian statue on my mantel of Guanyin feeding a drop of liquid to the dragon at her feet.  In god we trust?  The lady with the scale?  Maybe this is too binary.  And then on the other side of Guanyin is that kind of pelican wood bird that sits two feet tall that I hauled back from South America through the Panama canal.  The beak broke in 1998 and I carefully saved the pieces (as I usually do) and attached them back about a decade ago.  I used a drill to make a small hole and then put a finish nail in there.  Then a hole on those two pieces that needed to be attached.  Upper and Lower beak.  There is still a seam showing.  I could cover that up, but the beak is a bright yellow and well, it's better with all the pieces in place and I don't mind seeing the crack.  I guess that is the tangent and the other two are the opposite and adjacent. -money  Why don't coders always code the "-" action in their search fields?  It's not that difficult!

Definitely points to learn and keep in mind.  A bunch of stuff I had put in mental "cold storage" thawed out a bit there and ready again to run through my mill.  As said, a bit long and as usual from her a tad bit challenging.  Overall I see it and can use it as a working hypothesis.
