Not quite sure how to characterize this article. Kind of TG 101, but very brief. I think the definitions are going to spark some discussion/debate. I for one have issues with some of it, but I'll let you all have your say first.

the first thing that almost made the whole thing unreadable was the word transgress.

maybe im wrong but i thought that meant to go against a law. never heard it used that way before. it seemed strange.

this person has some of their terminology, ideas all wrong.

i think they were just spouting what they think, while trying to explain something they really didnt know.

icant watch the videos on my droid so i might have missed it in there.

it seems all wrong somehow. i dont really undestand what the real difference is between transgender and transexual is.

i know what i am, but the terminology is baffling.

help me out carolyn marie.

Most of the time, I just say I'm trans. I've alway thought that "Transgender" is the umbrella term used to descride all those who express themselves outside the gender binary. Whereas "Transsexual" is the term for those of us who identify with the gender opposite of our birth sex and progress with changing our bodies to match or gender identity. Am I wrong? Is this out dated?

I know I suffer from "gender identity dysphoria", yet I hear some don't like this term either. So whats correct?

The word transgress was used correctly, but like you say, because of it's common association with wrongdoing, especially it's use in the bible, it probably wasn't a very nice choice of word to use in this article. It actually just means to overstep or go beyond the boundaries of a standard.

OK.

First it seems to me she implies that to be a transsexual you need to have SRS which of course no longer true except for some elitists.

Second I don't agree at all with her definition of transgender. She implies that a non op or pre op transsexual is a transgender.

I support the use of transgender as an umbrella term for the range of different gender issues.

Her definition of CD is rather limited but closer than the others.

And to me, DQ will always be where I go for a quick hot fudge sundae! :P

I thought it was at least a good introductory article, and do generally accept the accept given definitions of Transexxual, and Transgender. Some of the terminology may have been out of date, but overall it seemed pretty fair. I have been called worse...

I knew I was a TS when I first heard of them. I have known TS's who are pretty picky though...and for at least one I knew, if you were'nt a full-blown post-op TS like her, you were just a TV. I was uncomfortable with that definition. When I was young, before my injuries, I would have gone full TS, but now accept that TG will have to suffice.

yep, i do think the inferred meaning of transgress makes it a poor word choice. transcend would have been better, imho.

it would figure that would be what i noticed, i was an english major for a while in college and in highschool it was my strongest subject.

im a nerd, sorry.

the whole tg,ts terminology confuses me though.

My objections to her definitions are twofold: first, she suggests that "transgender" applies to transmen or transwomen who forgo surgery, and there is no reference to the term's use as an umbrella to cover everything from cross-dresser to transsexual to genderqueer, androgynous or inter-sexed. That is the most common use of the term since I've been part of the community. Non-op seems to be the commonly used phrase to describe those not desiring or not able to get SRS. Second, she says that most cross-dressers "care about the clothing." That is simplistic and not true of most cross dressers I know. It is much more than about the clothes.

I find it ironic that she includes the GLAAD definition of the terms along with her own. She should have just posted those, because they are a lot more accurate than hers.

I just re-read the article, looking for the items you all have mentioned, and yes there were some flaws and generalizations.

Like Karen, I usually just say Trans, too, and there was no mention of GD. I tend to think Transgender is reasonable, since I don't surgury as realistic for me.

I gree with Carolyn, that there was no need to give the GLAAD definition, and then ad-lib on them. Perhaps the intention was to give her understanding on the topic, in her own words, rather than try and redefine the GLAD definition. And, yes, that did seem a pretty rough generalization about CD's.

While the article has some flaws, I still think it was fair. Afterall, they can wirte all they want, as long as they spell Transgender coerrectly...;)

She stood at the world's edge, awaiting judgment Isolation judged to be an insufficient burden The skies above required a hand, precisely two To keep the heavens high and keep the vaulted sky from crushing you She bent her knee and gritted teeth, awaiting weight Mentally preparing mind and body for the grimmest fate. Her head was bent, the firmament so hard to hold, Her back against the wall and braced against a fall And all that matters is she never ever drop it There she stands.  If they weren't full, her head would be in her hands. Heroes they came, from far and from wide to gawk at the girl who held up the sky.

Lets get this topic back on track folks.  Please spell out your acronyms for your specific meaning of the letter combinations and then re-read your own typing before hitting the send button.  We are here to be supporting each other and not stomping on someone's last nerve.  In the past we have used our DWF (Dirty Word Filter) to interpret certain acronyms and then the members were begging us to delete the posts for them one or two leaving with injured feelings.  Community Rules 7 (about posts being in clear English and Rule 8 (being suitable for people under 18) can come into play here. Thank you.

I could be described, I suppose, as a RWNJ.   A little stereotyping seems to be going on.  Don't complain about Trans stereotypes if you turn around and stereotype others.  A lot of RWNJs are actually decent people and get called that by people who pick up on one or two alleged beliefs.  I would rather single out influential individuals of whatever camp and call them to correction.   Trans folk are a small minority, even as small minorities go.  There are probably a lot more RWNJs running around than there are trans folk.

They cut a lot of trees here as well.  A lot of them toward the coast end up chipped up and sent to Europe to burn in power plants.  That bothers me, seems like a dumb idea.

Most likely.   Unfortunately this was expected.  I expect it will be the norm in any GOP controlled state that hasn't already done it.  So much effort expended against so few.  I certainly haven't seen my area being overrun by trans kids.   And yeah, I fully expect them to go after my HRT next. I think those that are railing against us are much more dangerous than some non-binary high school sophomore.

Her name is Sunny and she is so much fun. But, as you said @KymmieL, it is a challenge with a new puppy. Thankfully our 13 year old Lab is taking the addition in stride and being supremely tolerant.

It should be the league's business whether it allows trans women to play, not the park's.   (They seem to be inclusive - good on them)

Sticking my neck out here, but that's what I see the RWNJ's doing all the time! They always need someone or something to "fight". Everything is a contest to them; there's always a battle to be had, an opponent to defeat, a dragon to slay, then another, and another.    *Sigh* if only they'd put their energy into working with people instead of against them.

I think i became much more emotional overall.  Perhaps because use a topical E i haven't had the swings that some folks feel but i can laugh  and cry so much easier, sometimes over situations i would never have seen before.  Perhaps my age has something to do with it, but i am also much more peaceful and accepting of the storm life keeps presenting.   Hugs,   Charlize

I think the interpretation of the question is always going to provide a wide array of answers. Do I have a rich inner life? Yes! Why? Good question!   Circumstances often dictate how we feel within ourselves. I don't have to deal with work anymore and we've been jus' cruzin ever since. I don't have to fix anything, literal or otherwise. My wife and I live a relatively simple life and we are true partners, but deep inside, I'm not answerable to anyone except myself. So, how's that going? Well, since I came out to myself, which happened before I stopped working, I have felt an inner glow that was never apparent before. It is permanent now and it sustains me. How? Effed if I know! All I know is that even if I have down days, and there certainly have been a few, my heart, mind and soul are still smiling. I think it comes from a realization that I am finally happy just to be me.

I had to look this acronym up.  That certainly has never been part of the LGBTQ community!  Politicians simply attempt to use peoples disgust to create the hate or fear they can "fight" against to win support and power.   Hugs,   Charlize

Congrats, @April Marie on your new fur kid. As the mom to a 1 yr old fur kid. I know what you are going through. LOL.   Back to work after a good weekend. I hope that work doesn't drag my good weekend down. However, I believe it is wishful thinking. I will do the best that I can, if that is not enough. They can jump in a fing lake.   I have another week until my therapist appointment. So I hope I can make it. it seems my depression is getting worse. Can it, is there something lower that major?  Especially when dealing with work. So, I know I have to get out of there. I have put in for the parts at the local GM. Probably, be like Ford. OH, well nothing ventured nothing gained.      Hope everyone has a good day. Hugs, Kymmie

If what you mean by defemination  is that folks are doubting or refusing to believe your feminity i'm sure others here have felt that.  I know i have in the past.  It seems to be part of the continuous attempt by some to see us all quietly hiding in the closet.   I don't fit in there anymore.   Hugs,   Charlize
