Weight loss before HRT

Hi, everyone. :) So, I hear that it's best to lose weight before the starting HRT, so that's what I'm aiming to do during this year. I'm just trying to figure out a time frame to go by, if that makes sense. Right now I'm at about 187 lbs and around 5'7"-ish, and I would like to get down to about 130 lbs. I'm also wondering if that's a realistic goal, or if the time frame is too short and such. I plan on making an appointment with a nutritionist today, so my goal weight is likely to fluctuate.

My main concern is setting a plan to go by. Basically a goal weight, and things I can do to achieve it. I would like to start HRT by the time I'm 23 (I'm 21 so fingers crossed). Also, I was reading in the previous posts about exercises and I was wondering if I should start doing those now or wait till I lose more fat, or even wait until I start HRT. Sorry for all the rambling or spelling errors. I'm typing this from my phone. Thanks for reading! ^_^

Judging just by weight and height, I'd say that's a realistic goal, since I'm 5'9" and I used to be 130lb (before I got put on the EVIL Risperidal...)

That being said, I think it's best if you calculate your body fat percentage and decide to lose a percentage of body fat so you don't end up losing too much or losing muscle. I'm not a health professional or anything, but this is what I've learned from trying to lose weight (Risperidal's fault!) You might have more muscle than you think! Here's a good link:

You'll need measuring tape. Good luck!

I think 130 is a little to low and UN-healthy for right now. Your muscle mass right now is very high so getting down to 130 would be like if a genetic girl went down to 90lbs at 5'3

I think once your on HRT for a few years 2-3, Then 130 should be about right for you.

Right now i am about 180lbs at 5.8" myself, I aim to get down to about 150 before getting on HRT Just me getting down to 150 would make me look a little anorexic.

Then once on HRT a good year or so i hope to be about 140lbs or maybe 130lbs If it looks healthy.

diniesuar: I love your user name! ^_^ My major is in geology and paleontology. Anyway, Last time I checked, my body fat percentage was around 26%, but that was over the summer so I'm not sure what it would be now. I am trying to lose muscle as well, but I want to do it in the healthiest way possible so I plan on consulting my doctor and a nutritionist before thinking about trying. Right now I'm focused on losing fat in general. :)

Kyla: Yeah, you're probably right. At around 150, I would be within the healthy bmi range so it may be the best I can do for my frame. I'm hoping my doctor can help me figure out what weight is best to aim for.

.

There are many factors.......

Some women look good with a little more meat on their bones....

Some look great skinny......

But....most Trans women seem to agree that it is harder to lose weight after starting HRT.....I know it is for me..(3 years HRT)

I think it's entirely possible. In fact, I think if you go at it with some commitment, Im betting you can get to that point by about September. Figure out 10 lbs a month, maybe 15. It will slow down after a while, you'll have less to lose, so maybe 5 lbs a month after that. Start doing any exercise now. HRT is going to kill your muscle.. So the more you have to begin with, the more you can retain.. or at least the mental endurance the better. Also, you won't need to be 130 before HRT.. you could just as easily be 150 since you're going to lose some weight with HRT due to muscle loss.

I dont follow a diet either, i just watch what i eat.

So yeah, i think its possible in a 2 year time frame.

My recommendation is to increase exercise. It is not only the main determining factor in weight loss because of the impact it has on metabolism but has the added benefit of releasing endorphins so you feel better while relaxing the tension from muscles and decreasing stress levels.

Just find something you like and do it. The main thing is 15 min of cardio a day. That's all you need to boost metabolism for 24 hours. Anything beyond that helps too but that is the critical amount.

If I can lose over 170 lbs in a little over a year at age 64 I know you can meet your goals!

My other number one tip. Accept no excuses from yourself. One leads to another and next thing you know it's been a week and then a month since you exercised. That seems to be the case with most people anyway and definitely is for me. I hike-because at my age it takes a lot of exercise to keep metabolism up and I enjoy being out in the forest-but I do it in the rain and in the snow as well as the cold and the heat. I let myself have one day a week off but that is all. You can set the goal that works for your life and makes sense for you-but once set make no excuses. Soon it's ingrained and much easier.

Hope this helps. You can do it!

Thanks, everyone. You're really awesome! :) I was a little apprehensivensive that I could actually get back on the dieting and exercising routine, but I think I finally have enough motivation to do this. I have been increasing my work out schedule which is really helping me focus on my goals. To stay motivated I've basically allocated the time I exercise to my primary music listening timeout really helps me get off the couch and actually look forward to wo rking out which has been a big improvementt. :D Thank you all for your responses. At risk of sounding redundant, you all are super awesome! ^_^

I don't wear a bra to bed.  The girls aren't big enough to need it, but still enough to appreciate.  Just a flannel nightgown suits me fine.

Yeah, that is the point.  And of course they can be proud of themselves for saving humanity.   Yeah.  That would be scary.  I'd find a bush somewhere like our GOP governor candidate recommends.  So far I've gotten away with the women's.  I've been told I pass better than I realize.  But it would only take one a55h0le.   This is all so stupid.  I mean, who gets off on hanging out in a bathroom?
    • Ashley0616
Oh yes. It was not fun cleaning it up but he is better.

As I read this one, it is only for school bathrooms.  I hope he has signed a bill to triple the number of "security monitors" on the campuses and up their pay considerably, not to mention some other costly stuff.  Only way is for every school employee, to know the birth certificate information of each student by memory which will require 3 additional months of salary for them all.  It appears the enforcement relies on parental reports obtained from their children which opens so much up.  The kids will end up ALL with wet or soiled underwear while the parents go at each other with weapons over "family honor" over false calls based on childish name calling.

I agree. This law is impractical and impossible to evenly enforce without such ridiculous measures in place. What it will do is stigmatize the trans community in Oklahoma and nothing more but ofc, that’s the only point of it.   If I was in that state and needed a restroom, there’s no chance I’d ever step foot in the men’s restroom because of some law. I know I’m not alone in that thinking. This law won’t stand the test of time.

I asked AI to create an image of myself 30 years younger based off my avatar on another site and this was the result:     Wow! I am amazed how close it got my 30 year old face!

Quite true.  The amusing thing about opposites is how similar they can be.   My family left Greece because of the conflict between the communists and the militarists/fascists.
