Iraqi gay and emo communities in fear of death squads, at least 14 dead so far

Strong governments tend to be a bit fascist - and death squads are part of it. The United States does not particularly pick a regime for it's human rights record, but instead for its ability to keep US interests at the forefront.

We have a large amount of prejudice and bigotry here. In 'cruder' countries (less humanitarian) it can be rampant.

Killing those unlike you and the general population is a time -proven way to gain a stranglehold on the people.- a regime of terror. How many times have we seen this?

Laura, thank you for this information. Me? I didn't know before this. And murdering the Emo? That is ludicrous!

Once again we need to be aware of the freedoms that some of us enjoy could be a death sentence in other areas.

So remind me, what were we in Iraq for??????

This news got me so angry when I found it. At this point, I can only echo these sentiments.

Thank you for posting this Laura. I think it's important for us to remember why we fight for human rights.

I personaly see this possibly happening in this country in the future as well. Seems to be an afull lot of Politicians( mostly republican) that seem to want anyone in the GLBT window gone for good.I pray that sick sick man Rick Santurum does not make it into office(president) or it could be the end for so many of us. Just my opion...

Don't forget that there have been many gay and transgender hate crime victims in this country resulting in deaths. We have many members here who have been assaulted.

Between some hatefl websites, some religious people and other haters it is especially infectious. Some religious groups can spill out hate speech against us with the government fighting for THEIR rights. What nobody gets is that after these people stir the pot of hate it works up some nuts into violent action against us. Speech isn't always harmless. Bullies get themselves all worked up by these groups., enough to justify their actions.

Welcome aboard, @The Lake. One thing you can be confident in is that this forum is a safe place to share your thoughts. Have a good look around and chime in as you see fit.

Thank you! So do I! Although I'm proud of what it portrays, I don't wear it often because I think it could be taken as being a bit provocative. One part of me says look at me, I'm proud to be on the rainbow and the other part says pull your head in, you're asking for trouble.   I do have a more subtle pride t-shirt that I visibly wear more often, here is a representation of it: "Moon phase rainbow" V-Neck T-Shirt by secretmagic | Redbubble

Emotional stability is a personality trait that describes how calm, collected, and emotionally consistent someone is. It's the opposite of neuroticism, which is a personality trait that describes how much negative affect, emotional volatility, and mood fluctuation a person displays.

I'm lucky. I have both. For therapists, the Psychology Today is a good source, as is the resource section here at TP.  BOTH are soi vital.

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷
