Progesterone (Medroxyprogesterone)...

Hey all!

Soooo...my doc put me on Prog recently about 2 weeks ago adding it to my HRT regimen. I know we can't talk about specific dosages here but it was a bit high, roughly 3 times the average dosage. After about a week I started feeling like a basket case. CRAZY mood swings...severe hot flashes, insomnia, weird food cravings...all that? She wanted to add it as it may help supress a stubborn T count (and all the other theoretic benefits)...needless to stay I stopped taking it a few days before I went in to see her because of how it was making me feel.

So, she wanted me to reduce the dosage to something not as aggressive (minimal dosage) and do that for a month hoping that it would balance itself out, any other negative side effects such as and I stop taking it, and call her...

So, my question to you all is...has anyone experienced side effects like I mentioned here? Did they go away? Did you just stop taking it? Just curious but thanks in advance <3

My endo just uses progesterone to suppress the T. I went through the whole... Crazy mood swings and just generally being crazy lol. It did die down after a bit. =)

I been on and off progesterone for years at a time. The only effect I ever linked to Progesterone was hot flashes, but they didn't show up for a couple years. Probably related to a change in the Estrogen. In any case they weren't severe and I can't say that the progesterone made any difference as far as emotional well being or effectiveness of hormones. I am currently off Progesterone as my current doc saw no point in it.

Many people have this kind of problem with that product. It is a progestin and not real progesterone (similar, but different). Many people also experience severe anxiety and suicidal ideation. A better alternative is a bioidentical, micronized progesterone like Prometrium. It has a track record of being tolerated much better than what you're on.

Drea's quotation is nearly word-for-word what my prescribing HRT doctor says about progesterone. She basically says the benefits are nearly nil, the risks are high and that this particular hormone is of aid only to native females regarding their menses. She's right. Won't go into the particulars here.

Heck, I've asked her 3 times to prescription medroxyprogesterone for me, but she refuses to write it for anybody. She treats THOUSANDS of MTF transsexuals (and is one herself). Actually, she's being a good doctor.

.

I was first on Prometrium and felt pretty good...I didn't get too crazy..and I didn't notice any physical benefits...

For the last year and a half I was on medroxyprogesterone and it made me crazy...and I didn't notice any physical benefits with that either...I asked my doc to take me off of it...

Wow, thankies for the feed back everyone.

I may consider switching to Prometrium if I'm still having issues on this reduced dosage. Although, she has me maxed out on T blockers, now on max E dosage she'll do so...ya. The main goal here is to use what is possible to further reduce T levels. I'm currently on the cocktail of Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone, Spiro, and Finasteride. She eluded to the idea I may have some kind of intersex condition based on physical observation, lab work, and various other things and may be getting me tested to find out specifically...she's "consulting" with other doctors on their team and will get back to me. Its odd because my spouse actually mentioned the idea that could be a possibility not long ago and I sort of dismissed it as craziness but the more I look at it, it could be a possibility. There are a lot of things that just aren't typical with me physically, or chemically. I'm always a skeptic, but I would not be suprised to find out I am.

The prog dosage I was on made me so miserable, though. I'm feeling like any change from what I was on is a good change...

I hate to say this just this way, but we are a whole big population of lab rats at the minute. Last September I was at an international conference on Transgender Issues and the head pharmacist from a major TG health care facility flat out said to about 900 people that a single notebook would be sufficient to hold ALL of the bona fide, scientific level research on cross gender hormones that had passed full peer review and follow-up research and calibration. Hopefully, all of our doctors have some way of participating in and contributing to research into these medications. I am waiting for my own fur to get white, and my tail to grow, but at the minute, its only my whiskers that are a problem. My medical plan does carry on its own research, and I have given them permission to add my various lab results to their common store of information, and I am happy to do that. My own regimen at the minute is actually a very low dose of E and Spiro (which is primarily for diuretic use for my blood pressure) and I am doing well enough that I am happy with my changes and mental improvements that I value the most.

For the biggest boobs in the world, just look at Washington DC, they are all on the floor of the House Of Representatives.

Good morning @Adrianna Danielle   I’m glad you agreed to the paternity test.    My Uncle found himself in a similar situation and after the test he was faced with explaining his infidelity and one night stand to his wife and family. Not only did the test come back; “YOU ARE THE FATHER” she looked like a sister to the other children in his family. This was a “23 & Me” moment confirmed by an independent test. The most important reason for the young lady to search for her father, was medical history and peace of mind. The blessing of the test was her understanding and willingness to disappear into obscurity. That was not what my Uncle or his family wanted to happen. She was family and they wanted to know her and eventually love her as a family member. The next 4th of July family gathering, she was introduced to the rest of her extended family and I gained a cousin. My prayers for you as you navigate all the possibilities, and I hope it works out for everyone involved.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well I’m short on time again!   I had to move to the couch around 3:15 this morning. Unfortunately my wife’s med vac was making a lot of noise which woke me up and I couldn’t sleep. Then I over slept because my alarm wasn’t set correctly, my fault.    @Mirrabooka Hobart is a beautiful city and Tasmania is a wonderful place to visit. I was there several times in the 80s.    @Birdie Texas isn’t the only state with such laws.  Don’t try going to a public bathroom in Florida either. Now there laws aren’t based on chromosomes or anything like that but it’s a birth certificate as far as I know.  That Texas law is a tough one, really anti transgender in all respects. Except!  What if you have an extra chromosome?  Or DNA that’s flipped?  Did they think of that situation?  Medical theory suggests that is the case when it come to Transgender people, but especially the young ones.  Also, IQ, that tends to be higher than average.  There are a lot of things about us the medical science is studying, not just psychology.   got to go   Willow

I started estrogen (oral) a little before age 50 and not the maximum dose either and also no blockers. It almost immediately accentuated the feminine features I already had, and expanded my already soft areas of skin, widened my hips and distributed more fat to my thighs and increased my breast size. There seem to be some subtle changes to my face too though I doubt I am any more passable than I was a decade ago, it’s just nice to not use breast forms anymore. I haven’t switched to injections as planned and there really hasn’t been much change after the first 6 months and my body fights back; my E levels dropped and T increased even on the same dose so it has not really done much for me. It sounds like injections are the far better way to go, plus progesterone after a while if the doctor will prescribe that.    As is often said, everyone is unique and one’s mileage may vary, and what works for one person may not for another.

This is so sad. The violence in general in Washington State seems to have ramped up a lot, and gender-based violence and hate crimes seem to be worse as well. My parents once lived in Renton but I don’t care for that city and never go there. I don’t think it really matters though as crimes like this can happen anywhere and often are perpetrated by a male who was in a prior relationship with the victim.

I’ve never been in therapy specifically labeled as such, butI think IFS therapy evolved from treatment of dissociative identity disorder in which one’s various alters or parts are treated as an internal family, and each part is like a separate individual who can be spoken to individually or have dialogue with other parts. In a person with full DID, doing that supposedly helps to break down the dissociative barriers that cause that person to not be able to remember what they did for parts of a day or longer. This was the case with me.   Anyone’s mind, though, can be thought of as being compartmentalized to some extent and we all can have an inner child and various aspects of our selves, yet the dissociation is never to a degree that it causes problems like with DID. But the same aspects of working with an internal family or different aspects of self, like the inner child, the rebellious teen, the persecutor parental type, etc, can help heal trauma nonetheless. I think many of us do have sides of us that we don’t like, or others don’t like, and it can be useful to examine how they came about and what purpose they serve as they are often a means of self-protection or coping with anxiety.

We had soup and steamed rice for dinner tonight.  Simple, basic, feed-a-ton-of-people kind of food.  With strawberries for dessert!  We have a huge strawberry patch, so I spent a couple of hours this afternoon picking.  And there's some left over, which I put in the downstairs kitchenette.  Time for a late night snack!     Outside of meals, I mostly live by nibbling on fruit and a few green things.
