Deuteronomy 22

5) A woman shall not wear a man’s apparel, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment; for whoever does such things is abhorrent to the LORD your God.

One of the news stories that showed up when I signed on to my browser today read was about Six gunMEN dressed as women murdered a large number of women and children in a middle east country. I think Deuteronomy is more about this action than about my dressing in women's clothing. I pray that it is!!

I don't know. I feel like both Christians against transitioning and those for transitioning can read the Bible and interpret it however they want. I feel this is the case because I as well as my parents are Christians and I have been talking about transition with them. I came prepared with verses to support my case, but a lot of it has to do with how I read the verses. My dad reads them differently. We both can make it say what we want it to say. It's hard truly interpreting scripture for what God wants it to mean.

In reality, none of the scriptures that Christians use can either support or counter our existance and our medical condition. A biblical injunction written 4K years ago did not in any way have transsexuality or even transgenderism as we know it today in mind. The whole concept and medical diagnosis is less than 70 years old. The passages were written to the person's children and neighbors, but NOT to his 131st generation grandchildren. This is a concept that Fundamentalists do not get or ignore, or knowingly misrepresent.

4K years ago, people in disguise did commit crimes, even in the name of war using the disguise to fool people into horrible death or injury. I think that is a concept that could be forseen for the hundred plus generations, but not my GD.

The other possible reason for not wanting men to dress as women is that like it or not the churches have always been political entities and need soldiers for their battles - the men did the fighting so dressing as a women would be to hide from that service to the church (Do remember that the Bible has been 'edited' and translated so many times that the agendas of the editors are what we have and then we interpret them ourselves.)

As for women dressing as men - women were not allowed to take part in so much of the business of running society that it was forbidden.

Much like not eating pork or shellfish - not God's words but just good sense considering that with no refrigeration both can become deadly very quickly in a dessert climate.

The Bible must be read as it was written as a history of the Jewish people and then the story of a great profit and teacher - with most of it having been handed down as an oral history for thousands of years before it was ever written - not as an actual word for word transcription of the events as they happened.
