I agree. This topic should be in the political forum and I will put it there. It's not in anyones best interests to be picking fights and I think it's better to just agree to disagree.

Okay - I won't be posting notices here on Laura's Playground of our Transgender and LGBT advances on the international, national or state level.anymore. They somehow get turned into political discussions, never my intent.

The original idea was to show what I thought was some joyous news by presenting the thought process whereby the President of the United States - no matter what your political affiliation, YOUR elected President - decided to support same-sex marriage. I thought it was a historical event and step forward towards gaining acceptance of the Transgender Community, especially as they talk about "LGBT" in the news when discussing this. (We are the 'T' in that if you remember)

I am too naive, I think. Too much contentiousness here over politics, too little interest here in advancements in our struggles as transgender people.

I wish everyone would just wake up!

THIS WAS GREAT NEWS!

Lizzy is right. This WAS great news. I'm not sure how my agreeing that it was great news, and sticking up for this country's president (when I'm not even a citizen!) ended up being somewhat of an attack on my opinions, but I've been around the internet enough to recognize veiled attacks when I see them. I hope Lizzy does not stop sharing such news, because it's too important to let one bad apple ruin some good (and much-needed!) cider.

.

I agree, Roxie.....

The post was in the "General Forum" because it was of general interest to all.....

It was moved because it turned political........that was not Lizzy's intent...

It was the announcement of something that was of concern and interest to our community....

a real shame....

DJ,

It is indeed a shame because that was a post that should have been good news to everyone on this particular forum. Sometimes I think there are people who forget why we're all here in the 1st place.

While threads are on the "New Content" pages, they are visible regardless of which forum they are in. This thread has had almost 400 views. Since it was about a political figure, the "Politics Forum" is a perfectly valid place for it.

While the President's views have the potential for great good, they also have the potential to polarize the electorate. I've been reading that it may cost him votes among African-Americans, which would affect the election. Brings to mind the old adage, "No good deed goes unpunished."

We shall see.

It doesn't seem to matter what the topic is, there are always a few who will find fault with and nit pick anything you have to say. The best thing you can do is ignore them.

Anything that involves politics, even mention of a political person needs to be placed in the politics forum. As Carolyn mentioned, "New Content" can be easily seen.

Absolutely. And I shall do better with that next time.

That the president said this would be encouraging, or great news, if he hadn't also said many other things that have made little to no difference.

What would truly be great is if he actually did something about it, y'know? I understand the process is more than one person, and that he needs the house of reps and sens to be on the same page, and I fully hold them as responsible as the executive branch. One reason I have no faith in the political process at all.

I like hearing politicians acknowledge human rights, but I would prefer action over rhetoric.

So please don't be offended if I'm not jumping for joy, or if I express that sentiment. No need to stop sharing news like this, just be prepared for people to feel differently.

Micha,

You're right about there being more than one person involved in the process of the President getting anything done. But I think we have to remember that getting anything done has to start somewhere. And I think his saying what he said is a good place to start.

I thought all the stuff he said in his 2008 election campaign was a great place to start. Too bad he's more a republican, privatization capitalist than Bill Clinton. Is it too much to ask that a politician who wins an election based on the promise of a better life for the exploited working people of America actually follow through? Before we count on him to make good on his "beliefs" on marriage rights for anyone who's not "straight," I'm still waiting for him to make good on his promise to help working people.

I've realized since that no matter what, dems and reps want the same thing, even if they have different way of doing it - in the end, it's all capitalists exploiting the productive working people for profit and starving the dumb citizens they're making all their money off of. You can like what an elected official has to say all you want, but if that politician never does anything to fulfill those promises, where does that leave us? What a politician says is nothing - tell me what this great and wondrous revolutionary president has actually done for the working people, let alone anyone in the glbtq community. Bailed out the companies that brought us to this crises? Left it to the biased and discriminatory states to handle the minorities' civil rights?

Bollocks.

There's a difference?

Sorry. . .

Perhaps only in semantics, Micha. No problema.

Link works for me, but if not for anyone else it's in the Huffington Post's "Gay Voices" section, just search for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Jus' an attempt to lighten the mood. See, it is good to hear these things, but I'll always be a skeptic. Jus' seems in this case I actually have a reason.

I had fun doing this a few weeks ago.  This is how I got rid of -money:     This music player code of mine is really working out nice.  My music collection is all mp3 files.  I put them on my server and then code things like that to play them and loop them.  And then I coded an app while I was in the mental hospital in 2009 that I use to transcribe my music with.  It's a Windows app and you can browse to an mp3 or use a URL to an mp3.  Once it is in the program, it looks like a normal music software timeline and there are sliders to slow it down and speed it up by octaves, semitones and cents, so you have complete control over what key the music is in.  And you can create loops in it and I added a feature a few years ago where it remembers all the settings so when you open it again, you still have the same loop set with the pitch settings.  I've been putting my favorite recordings in it lately, setting the funkiest loop I can find and then slow it down an octave or more.  Then I play drums to it and piano stuff, or pennywhistle.  I like playing drums on the floor.  Even though I got rid of money and well, I should have done that decades ago, I had a good time the other day hitting my bin of GO stones with my drumstick.   I don't know if I'll get flagged for self promotion here or not.  You know, I'm a musician and I'm just sharing ideas for how to listen to and enjoy learning to play music.  I'm not the only one who has made tools like this.  I'm really geeking out on my roommates drumset.  I learned to play in the 90's, but I haven't had a set since then.  I've been playing 5 gallon plastic water bottles as hand drums for 30 years.  They are relatively inexpensive and common and they sound great.  Very fun to play along to your favorite music.  And if you can slow the music down, it can make it easier to play to for some songs.  As advanced as I get as musician, I still enjoy just meditating on playing some simple pattern over and over.  Lately I've been playing an Emin7 chord going to an Fmaj7 chord on the piano.  It's all white keys.  You just play an E and then skip a key etc...  Every other key for 4 notes and then just move that all up one key for the Fmaj7 chord.  I just like the droning quality of it.

During COVID lockdowns without any place to go, some neighborhood buddies and I would play Life for hours (imagine a bunch of middle aged men playing that game, it was a hoot - all sorts of 'house rules')... anyways, as much as I could get away with it, I would choose a pink peg to represent myself... sometimes even had a female name to go with it... this was before I even really pondered whether or not I was trans ...   I was very determined to do this ... so interesting to look back and see all the threads pointing me to where I am now, though it has come as such a surprise as well...   Easy

Thank you all for the helpful responses... I realize some of HRT is for mental health -- like I said above I really am enjoying the ride so far in that regard!   Guess there is a part of me that wants to have my cake and eat it too. I want to have a nice feminine shape within reason for my age (fat distribution - you can kick in whenever you want!!). Yet, I am still not out to family, so I want it to be subtle enough as I go along that I can cover tracks when necessary ... Not the ideal situation but it is what it is ... maybe when family realizes that this is not making me into a monster, they will come around to some of it. I can hope, right?   More and more, I just want to look in the mirror and see a female body staring back at me ... I want female clothing that I put on to look like it fits me to a T... (and by T, I don't mean testosterone, lol)...    EasyE

Good afternoon M.A.   Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums, I think you'll find that there are a lot of us who had their first therapist reconsidering our story and recommended us to gender or LGBTQIA specific therapist. I made my first therapist cry after asking me what was my worst experience or memory. She was not prepared for the can of worms I brought to the couch. My second therapist is a gem, she's my age and knows how to work with my thoughts.    My two kids were also involved in the arts programs in school one in theater, the other combined art and modern music.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I'm wearing a white t shirt and jeans.  The t-shirt is softer than a man's and slightly girly.  Feeling kinda pretty.

That's very common in internet forums and it is hard not to take it personally sometimes.   You might post "bump" with a smiley face to bring it to the top of the stack, or you might use the @ feature if there are certain people you would really like to have comment on it, and say something like Dear Abby, I would really like your input on this.  Please take a minute and respond.  Thanks!!!

Something else I noticed @Ladypcnj Since I use the Unread tab, I don't see threads I've read again until someone replies to it, or the author adds something.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
