Graduating... In more ways than one.

Well, here is an update I had been hoping to post for a while now for numerous reasons.

First off, I am completing my last semester at my College and graduating with honorable mention and being on the Dean's list.

I will be walking away with my AS in Social Sciences with an emphasis in Behavioral Sciences. I can honestly say, I had some of the toughest classes of my academic career this semester. My physiological psychology class has a 70% drop rate. I am between an A and a B with my final next week...

Aside from that, I have been VERY active in my school's GSA and helped put together a fund raiser last week that was a HUGE success.

In the fall, I will be transferring to my new (educational) home at Cal State Northridge and I have secured all the financing I need through grants and scholarships. I am already involved in the school's LGBTA and have applied to work as a peer counselor in the school's new LGBTQ resource center opening in the fall.

I am FINALLY moving as well, as my partner and I just signed the lease on our brand new apartment that is in an AMAZING building and is two blocks from my new campus. More importantly, it finally gets me away from my bigoted horror of a father in law. It has gotten so bad that even my partner wants nothing to do with her father.

On the health side of things, my body further continues to amaze me (and the medical establishment it seems). I was diagnosed last year with a potentially VERY serious and possibly deadly issue. Well despite all odds, my body seems to be keeping this condition completely in check without the need of any medication. I like the amazed response I keep getting from my doctors at each 3 month checkup.

As far as transitioning, again, my body amazes me and not necessarily in a good way. After 8 months of ever increasing dosages of my estrogen pills my liver is producing ever increasing amounts of sex hormone binding globulins to capture it and excrete it before it can do its job, so as of last week, I switched to injectables. We will see if that helps.

So that is it, my 95% good update. I feel things are all on the up and up and (knock on wood) hopefully this is all a sign of things to come.

:)

Congratulations for the scholarship, and double congratulations on ditching the father-out-law. CSUN will be a good place to keep going on the education, I know some of the Prof's out there and they have fun teaching there, so the students get a bonus.

Well it will be my second time around with CSUN. I LOVE the campus, the atmosphere and the fact that (as opposed to last time) I am returning with a ferocity of determination in both my educational and social goals.

I think I might have posted this before, but if not, I am going for a Bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Queer Studies and then a Masters in Social Work with the final goal of becoming an LCSW and doing counseling for at risk LGBT youth and young adults.

Cadence, you are an amazing and lovely woman, and it comes as no surprise that you're doing as well as you are. Congratulations on everything you've accomplished, and best wishes for an equally successful and enjoyable stay at my alma mater. I can't say I have fond memories of the place, as most of my classes were at night and I made no friends there, but it is a nice environment with some great teachers. They have done some nice things with the campus since the Great Quake.

You're going to do some great things for the Community, young lady. You know where to find me if ever you need anything.

BIG HUGS

Thank you Carolyn Marie,

I plan on doing you proud and carrying on the tradition of well representing the tradition of excellence you you have shown.

On a side note, I wasn't kidding, I really would like to organize something on campus in which I can have you (and possibly Jason, if he is up for it) come and share your stories and experiences.

I think I can speak for both of us in saying that we would enjoy that very much.

My physiological psychology class has a 70% drop rate.

Have you noticed this in your class?

Here I thought Organic Chemistry was the class with the highest drop rate. Well maybe it is among med. students.

Congrats on your successes and accomplishements. :)

Apparantly it is one of the toughest classes on campus and according to some students that I have met that have taken it elsewhere say it was WAAAY easier, even at USC and UCLA. TONS of vocabulary and concept memorization, no multiple choice on the tests. All short answer and fill in the blank. It is a strange day when more than 2 people get an A or B on the tests...

Hi Cade,

Congratulations on all of those achievements and milestones! You've a bright future going - so glad you can share it here.

Injectable E is do-able. I've probably given myself 30 injections so far - becomes natural and not scary at all after a few times - if that's what it takes, then don't hesitate!

All the best to you!

Love, Megan

April, that is def good advice. I have had some really bad experiences with a therapist in the past. She way violated my trust. That caused a massive amount of damage to every corner of my life. Truthfully, because of that i have alot of deep seeded trust issues. I'm not sure i could ever go back to therapy. You are of coarse right, therapy would help, suppose its a matter of finding the right one and learning how to trust again.

I look for purses with a shoulder strop that goes across the body. I also like many pockets. But one purse is not enough. I like purses that are artistic and make a statement about my personality. It doesn't have to be flamboyant, but matches my character. I also need a purse when I want to blend in and not be noticed so easily. One that won't draw attention to me when I don't desire it.

What if a social media platform giant, (we all know its name) on devices we own, is held responsible for creating rules to intentionally target our community? for political reasons?

Well just got back back from a visit to our oldest and family. It was nice having my granddaughter snuggle up to me on the couch. Gave me a big hug when we went over yesterday. Spent all day yesterday with them.  I envy my granddaughter, being able to grow up a girl. Something I wish I got to do.    Hugs, Kymmie

I hope our members from the Mid-South are doing OK today.  A lot of places had a real disaster overnight.  Tornadoes dropped all over, through Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee.  Lots of damage, and many people missing.  Pray for those involved, and that there won't be another wave of it tonight.   My county was spared almost all of it, but a neighboring county was hit hard.  Our Defense personnel were mobilized this morning to assist with access control, because all their local LEOs are needed for search and rescue.  No idea of how many are injured and missing, but there have been several deaths.  We may not know for weeks.  Rural areas here have a lot of shacks and trailer houses, and most people were asleep because it hit at the worst time - early morning on a Sunday during a holiday weekend.  Tornado hit a retirement home, and lots of elderly folks were hurt bad.  There was no forecast for this, and little if any warning.      Electrical outage is widespread, and it has been followed by a really hot, humid day.  Heat index is around 115 - it's killer heat.  I went out with my husband this morning, since everybody with a CDL was needed for a convoy.  I'm back home now, since I only got a couple of hours of sleep last night.  He'll probably be there overnight, and GF is there also helping with mechanical issues.  They've converted a big Baptist church into a community shelter for people who have lost their homes, and set up a generator and AC.  I'll probably go back tomorrow to help some more, as they're working on setting up a kitchen...nobody wants to eat MRE's forever.    They're getting no help from the state at all yet.  Governor didn't bother to declare an emergency until this afternoon!   The National Guard hasn't been activated either.  If it wasn't for Defense personnel, there'd be gawkers and looters. Its ridiculous, like only the cities matter.  Two rural towns literally no longer exist - its like a bulldozer a half-mile wide went through.  I've seen tornado damage before, but this is the worst.  Its just heartbreaking to look at it.
