using health savings account

I was wondering if anyone has used a retirement health savings (RHS) account from their employer to pay for SRS? I have one but I am not sure if they consider top surgery cosmetic? They are very vague. I figured I would ask here first, to see if anyone has had any experience they can share...

I don't have that type of insurance.

But I did want to say, it might depend how it is presented. If you have a condition - Gender Dysphoria - and it causes a serious depression that leads to a considerable decline in the quality of you life, affecting your health, potentially even leading to suicidal behaviors (see where I am leading?) And a reduction if your dysphoria would include 'breast reduction" which is best achieved through removal? That is not cosmetic surgery.

Thanks for your reply Lizzy. I called the health care people and she was nice and said that she THINKS they have accepted reimbersments for GRS before, she took my number and said she would research it and get back to me. That was last Friday, I am still waiting. I guess I should call again. I have scheduled my top surgery for October and spoke to the receptionist about the health plan I have. I asked what type of statement the Dr. gives in hopes that would satisfy the requirements to be reimberst she said it should. I guess we'll find out.

I don't know about a retirement health savings account, but I have an FSA for health expenses, and my experience is that if it's provably medical (anything with a doctor of any variety involved) then they are usually pretty easy-going. They are governed by federal regulations on what can and cannot be considered tax deductible (I assume you are funding this plan with pre-tax money) but it's your money, not theirs.

Hi, I just had top surgery on the 17th. I received almost ball the statements I will need to

send in. I am waiting for my name change gets updated on their records before

I send the papers in. I am hoping it won't be a big deal, my doctor 'coded' the

statements so that they read right for billing department. I will keep you updated

as soon as I hear from them.

I know my FSA has been a "no go" on Laser treatment(specific exemption.) Now I do know they make exceptions based on a Dr's directives. Untill I'm out at work I'm not going to purse corrective treatment reimbursment.The health admin lady littery sits next to the HR manager.
