What type of Mascara do you use?

Okay Ms. McTrucker! I need your help! However, for a broader net of information I decided to make this a thread.

I need to buy some new make up soon and one of the things that bothers me most is buying Mascara. I never know which type or brand to get and which actually do what they say best.

In my case, I have very long eye lashes so if there is actually a Mascara that curls the lashes a bit on application that would be nice, but also which brands have you ladies found volumize best?

Any other special info about your favorite brand? It doesn't clump too much? Is it water proof? Does it come off easily or is it more difficult to remove?

There are so many brands to choose from. In the past I used what friends gave me and it worked fine but now that I'm buying for myself I wanted some second opinions. It can take many years of searching doing this stuff on my own so I'm hoping to cut to the chase here and get a head start on finding what might work best for me. Price isn't a problem really, just point me in the right direction please!

Thanks in advance for any info. :)

I don't know what the best is, but I do know what the worst are. Avoid any mascara that uses petroleum distillates. Beeswax is much healthier for your lashes, though if you happen to be vegan carnuba wax is another option.

I like great lash (non waterproof) myself, it's easy, no clumping. Washes off easy. There are so many out there, it's fun to try different ones. I am looking into "Li Lash" for something different.

Well, the most popular mascara is actually Maybelline Great Lash. It comes in a variety of colors as well as waterproof/non-waterproof.

I personally use Covergirl LashBlast Fusion, black non-waterproof. I haven't had much experience with mascara that curls the lashes but you can buy an eyelash curler and use that after you put on your mascara. I use one by Sally Hansen.

I personally had a problem with waterproof mascara flaking off during the day. I switched to non-waterproof and no more flakes. I know Covergirl has a volumizing mascara but I haven't tried it out yet. I think LashBlast Fusion is part volumizing, part lengthening.

Mascara can be daunting because there really is A LOT of variety out there and just when you think you found the perfect one to buy, it helps to stop and double check the packaging to make sure if you're buying the waterproof or non-waterproof version..and the right color. If you want just a great general mascara, start with Maybelline's Great Lash. For more specific functions, start with CoverGirl and patiently look around at their selection. They've got lengthening. They've got volumizing. They've got lengthening and volumizing. They've got waterproof. They've got non-waterproof. They've got really black, mostly black, kinda black, sorta black, brown, light brown, clear. I'm sure they even have one that will change the oil in your car...

Hope that helps!

I have almost black hair, and lashes as well. My lashes are 'average' but I learned a good trick for daytime wear, so I don't use but a touch of mascara. Use eyeliner, especially at the outside corner, it lasts longer. Not that much but across the top 3/4s and the bottom 3/4s. THEN touch the corner of the eye with eye shadow on a small brush - sweeping back across the lid like a windshield wiper. and to finish it off with a lighter eye shadow on top.

When done, take that large brush you use on your foundation and diminish the color a touch. THEN put on a bit of mascara.

I use MAC - and I use it with an eyelash curler. My make-over person showed me that.

For night formal wear I use a volumizer mascara, and I have a tiny comb/ brush I use to sweep out any clumping. These brush/combs are available at cosmetic counters - not that expensive.

And the key with heavier eve make up is in the blending.

I hope this helps.

I second Lizzy McT's approval of Cover Girl Lash Blast but add one external appliance to help with mascara, a double sided mirror with a 10X magnifying mirror on one side. The mirror can be either small purse size, or like mine, on a stand with its own light source on it. Helps get the mascara on your lashes, and not on the eyelids as badly.

I recently got some of the Bare Minerals Flawless definition Mascara in a Birtch Box and absolutely love it. I think that the even thought the chemical makeup of themascara makes a difference, the brush and how it is designed makes a big difference also. Before that I was using Benefit stuff but I might just sick with he Bare Minerals now.

Thank you all for the great responses!

I guess I'll have to make a day of it and start browsing Mascara soon!

I love my double sided mirror. I use it mostly to keep my eyebrows in check but I'll definitely start using it when I put on Mascara. Also, I didn't know they made ones that you could fit into your purse! That is awesome! Now I won't have to carry such giant handbags around everywhere with a car adapter and extension cord for the plug! :P I definitely need a purse sized mirror that magnifies even just a little bit. I don't always wear much make up but mascara, eye shadow and some lip gloss are the staples of my daily routine. I feel so much more confident with at least Mascara because I just love the way it makes my eyes look.

Lizzy K, I will definitely ask for one of those brushes at the make up counter. I plan to go soon and see about some foundation and concealer for the dark circles under my eyes. It doesn't matter how much sleep I do or don't get I always have them thanks to allergies and genetics. Thanks mom...

And to everyone, again thanks for the advice. I guess I'll start with the Covergirl or the Maybeline and go from there.

*Hugs*

Well, I stopped at a truck stop this morning in Terrell TX and the girl behind the counter was late teens and she looked like she had heavy mascara on. I took it upon myself to ask her about it. I basically asked her if she wears a lot of mascara. When she asked why I told her because her eyelashes are so dark and pretty that I was a little jealous and wished mine could be like that.

Well that got her going and she whipped out her makeup bag from her purse to show me the mascara she uses. (I swear I have a knack for finding other women who love makeup) It's by Rimmel and it actually has 2 brushes, one for length, one for volume but it's two in one and you twist off whichever brush you need. Next time I'm at the store I'll look for it and maybe try it out. I showed her the one I use and eventually we got to talking about Sephora since we both love that place. :)

Birds of a feather, ya know?

Ok so I'm going to try that mascara I mentioned just above a try tomorrow. I swiped some on today but it was put on over mascara I've already had on since like 3 this morning. Anyway, it's Rimmel Day 2 Night mascara. One brush is for length, one brush is for volume. What I did just a few minutes ago was use the thicker volume brush for my upper lid lashes and use the smaller length brush to get my lower lashes. The tube is really easy to find in the Rimmel section: it's kinda big and it's pink and black.

Also I noticed they had 2 colors: black and extreme black. Since only 2 were left in the extreme black and at least 5 of the regular black, I took that as a sign (like I do when deciding on colors/shades) and grabbed one of the extreme black.

The thicker brush, yeah, coated the lashes pretty easily made them look a little thicker and darker, the smaller brush made doing the lower lashes pretty easy.

Daytime is Revlon. If I want real dramatic I use Monster Lash. I only use waterproof. For me it stays on all day without flaking and wipes right with the makeup removing towelettes that I use.

The best way to get the look you want is to go to a store such as Dillards or Belks and get a free makeover. If you do not want the makeover just ask her advice. They are friendly and profesional. If you are worried about not passing. Well it is almost Halloween. Alot of guys dress as females on that night. If you do that you will get the perfect look for you.

Good luck on selling your wife on the idea of a different car. This could be tougher than negotiating with a dealership.   My wife agreed to my taking profit out of the company to buy a used truck once we found out the 2014 F-250 I currently had with 267,244 miles on it was needing new torque converter solenoids and the DEF system is chocking up. We bought a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, Duramax 4X4, with 163,000 miles. LTZ Off Road package, power mirrors, chrome step boards, rear camera, exhaust brake, and air lift bags on the rear suspension. It belonged to a friend of mine who also owned a mobile training business.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

At the other end and in our favor is Julia Serano's analysis of the Cass Report Fiasco   https://juliaserano.medium.com/the-cass-review-wpath-files-and-the-perpetual-debate-over-gender-affirming-care-8f56d0c4d0c6   Serano is a Trans Woman and a molecular biologist herself, guess whose evaluation I honor.

That's great @MaeBe hopefully the company will offer your wife a moving package with the new job position. That's how I was transferred from the St. Louis Metro area to the Indianapolis Metro area. The company covered all the moving expenses, as well as a three week stay in an extended living hotel while we chose an area to build our current home.   Good Luck and make it a happy adventure.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

@Birdie is the day care in charge of your MyChart, Hospital, and Doctors as to how you are cared for? There has to be some way to prove that you were born intersex and have a choice on your chosen pronouns. I wish we could do more for you. Keep pushing forward.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

The Republicans are not interested in compromising.  Johnson will be gone for compromising unless the Dems help him out.

Biden campaigned as the master negotiator, able to push legislation through Congress.   Whatever bill a Dem president, a Dem Senate, and a Rep House can agree on might be  more palatable than a bill with a R president, R Senate and R House given present attitudes. They are throwing away a chance.
    • Ivy
A bill like this would never get through congress, even if it were allowed to be voted on.

Ha, that's funny - I swear this is the one I used to use in high school to get around school blockers and play games. 😅🤦‍♀️   Though I'd be wary of using a free VPN today, if your only intent is bypassing censorship, I guess it works. Proton VPN also has a free tier with a limited selection of countries/servers. I feel more comfortable recommending them as they actively try to fight censorship with new evolving VPN protocols, and they protect your privacy. They are also directly funded by their paying customers. So there is really no downside to using their free tier over another free VPN that may not have the same goals/values.

That sounds pretty accurate. I'm just glad I don't use Windows anymore, as I basically consider Windows itself a virus/malware. Backups can absolutely save you from some types of malware like ransomware. However it's ideal to just not get infected by having smart browsing habits. It's been said, and very accurately so, that the best antivirus is you - even the best antivirus isn't 100% accurate in detecting bad stuff, if you go out looking for that stuff or browse carelessly.   I guess if you don't care and/or don't have sensitive data on your PC, then that's fine I suppose. I personally care a lot - personal accounts, private messages, and even my very presence on this site aren't necessarily things I want to be public knowledge. 🤓🫠
