somehow, I, posessing no musical talent at all, have played the recorder, the piano, the clarinet, and the guitar. I only like guitar, because I like singing... but I don't think I'm any good at that either

I've been playing since 4th grade, which makes it 8 years now. I'm in every band my HS has to offer, and am going to minor in music in college.

I play or have played: piano (just a little), guitar (folk and a little classical), bassoon, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, recorder, and lever harp.

I have built: a mountain dulcimer, a ratchet (also called a sausage bassoon), a 7-course lute (not a true lute because it's a little small and I didn't double the strings and I have it "guitar tuned"), a couple of straight valveless trumpets, two folded valveless trumpets, a sackbut (medieval trombone), a fife, and a keyless flute.

I have "in the works" (i.e., in various stages of being built): a Baroque clarinet, a musette (folk oboe), and a lever harp.

Let me brag a little. The mountain dulcimer has a carved eagle whose wings sweep into the pegbox. I carved the pegs which are three-quarter moon shaped, undercut, and are topped with ivory testicles. The top is spruce. The eagle carving, pegbox, and fretboard are from one piece of black walnut. The fretboard is trimed, slightly parabolically with ebony. The back and side are cherry.

My lute has a 9-ribbed bowl, alternating ribs of Indian padouk (also called vermillion) and black walnut. Its neck and pegbox are also of padouk. Ebony pegs (again hand-carved) and bridge. The top is spruce. The soundhole is a rose of my own design, based on five hearts pointed inward so that they form a star.

I built black vinyl cases for these two instruments, complete with handles and latches.

Dear, I also played cello for years..(did you ever see the movie "Evil Roy Slade"? Where he pulls out a gun and tells a cellest to "Put that fidle up under your chin where it belongs!") LOL

And, Janet, I also built a mountain dulcimer, not quite as elaborate as yours, but nice none the less...I hand carved the scroll above the tuning pegs so it is like that on a cello, and I used regular guitar tuners as they give better control for fine tuning.. (Hey..I lived in Ft. Lauderdale once...actually Plantation, I was there at christmas..Blaugh! No snow!!!)

I've played drums in a country band, bass and lead guitar in rock bands for 25 years ( I have a BEAUTIFUL 1967 Rickenbacker 360 ) I've played saxophone and french horn, 5 string banjo, viola, and messed with a few other instruments....

I have really got to hear Sally sometime though, I bet she blows a mean horn! She is very

bashful about her talent, though, But, don't listen...I bet she's awesome!

I've been murdering a mandolin for too long...it beat me up.I keep it under the bed to make it envious.I love my Steinberger 5 string bass/Ampeg 4/10"...the guitars...I am in absolute thrall with all of my children...miss my 3/4 320 JL Ricky...mostly have Tele's...built one that is my 'Special K' and if I have a child she is IT...who'd guess hollow-body & 3 lipstick tube pick ups...my snuggle bug (-; ,have a nice Les Paul, a couple of accoustics...an especial favorite is an early 60's Framus I was given a long time ago by a Red-Neck co-worker (good dude though) that I've put a Shadow humbucker in and replaced the nut as I've re-strung it Nashville (the chorus strings from a 12 string set...really high/different,great harmony guitar). Some day I'll learn how to play them, for now I just stay broke keeping the occasional set of strings on them...thankfully the bass isn't too finicky. Mostly they like country/blues/country blues/rock/country rock/blues rock/country blues rock/jazzabilly/country jazza....OOoooOOOooOOOoOOH my I need to just, to quote a Master....Mr. Franklin Zappa," shut up 'n play 'yer guitar." pinching myself to keep from laughing too hard...this makes it darn hard to type, Kelly Ann

Sally! You play in a big band? I am so jealous.

Well, let's see. I first learned piano. Trombone, trumpet, saxophone, French horn, violin (not well), and finally bugle. I was in my alma mater's marching band (Hey, Playboy magazine called us the best college marching band in the country!). I used to play in a German (aka polka) band. It's really been a dream to play in a Dixieland jazz band, but I don't see that happening.

I used to have a great tenor voice until the hormones. Now I have a baritone. I don't think I've hit bass yet. At least I hope not.

Felicia, I don't think you should have to sacrifice your instruments in order to maintain your hands!

Then again, I have hopelessly massive pianist hands, so perhaps I speak from a perspective that has accepted a futility here.

I've been playing piano since I was old enough to crawl up on the seat and plink away, bass for about 6-7 years and then I switched out to guitar, which I enjoy so much more. I'm also a singer, which is probably the thing I'm most confident on.

I was a woodwind player back in my elementary to high school years: clarinet and alto saxophone. Now, I'm a DJ that uses two turntables and create my own mixes of different songs. Been spinning records since I was 16. I took a leave of absence from it while in college but was able to get back into it after graduating. Still love it, makes me open up through different kinds of music from chillout sessions to party rocking tracks.

I have a dulcimer! Inherited from my grandparents, and you know how long it took me to even learn what the thing was called!?! Appalachian dulcimer I think is what I found out was it's name. God, I would love if either of you could tell me that that's what I really have, how to tune it, and even maybe how to play it. It's strings are so old, but it still sounds so regal, like majestic. I'd love to at least play something on it.

And wow. . .

I use to dream of making instruments. Before I lost sight of guitar, I wanted to make 'em, but with designs, so it wasn't like "yeah, you got the body everyone else has, only difference is it's a lighter shade of red," but like unique guitars with unique designs on them. As varied as the tattoos on most of the people I'd have hoped to sell to.

I play drums, or did, when I had a kit to play on. Not much of a kit either. Bass, three toms, high hat, ride and snare. S'all. Kinda crappy for tryin out new stuff, but good for basics I guess.

Started with guitar, played for years without training or lessons. Apparently I'm still good with a pic, and can maintain a gallop, these things I think are called triplets...dunno, I can riff, tha's what I been told. Not good for much else.
