Personally, I am absolutely obsessed with the elegant gothic aristocrat (EGA) style. I just find it an absolutely gorgeous style, and I also love how androgynous it is. At least when it comes to the stores I look at, you can find corsets and skirts in the men's section, and coats and hats in the women's section. The lines defining gender when it comes to the EGA style aren't as clear as with other styles of clothes, which I find very nice. Not to mention, overly-feminine guys (like me XD) aren't really given a second glance; I mean, 'normal' people would stare at them a bit funnily, but they would probably also stare any goth, male or female, so that doesn't really count.

Does anyone else really love gothic fashion, or is that just me being weird? XD

Oh, also, does anyone know of any stores that sell gothic clothing of a more elegant, victorian-ish style for fairly decent prices? The only store I know of is Retroscope Fashions, and the prices there make me cringe. They're not completely insane prices, considering all of the clothes are handmade, but still rather expensive for a broke teenager like myself XD

I have been shopping on Amazon and Secret Oktober. I just got myself an outfit that will make a killer costume for halloween. I hope to see it by this weekend.

Would love to wear the clothes from Retroscope Fashions sometimes and I thought that the prices were actually reasonable. Less expensive than I would have expected. But while I often say that I dress to please myself and take the consequences I really have to be realistic too, I'm not young anymore and I live on an area where bib overalls are still considered appropriate wear for social functions as long as you wear a shirt and shoes-and believe me for non social functions that is not always the case-and you see camo as well as flannel plaid shirts on both genders in church on a Sunday morning. You can imagine what would happen if I showed up EGA!

The people here have been many times more accepting than I ever thought possible but that woukd be the straw that broke the camels back I am sure, So I'll stick with the rock/ goth vibe which makes me stand out to an extent around here already.

Good luck with finding what you want, Have you tried ebay? They have just about everything if you search hard enough.

I haven't looked on ebay yet, but I certainly will sometime soon once I get the chance. Maybe I'll be able tofind something I can actually afford xD

Oh, also, does anyone have any tips for me on how to persuade my mother into letting me adopt a slightly more gothic style? I showed her some pictures of my personal favourites from Retroscope Fashions, and she doesn't appear to be particularly fond of the style, to put things very mildly. I don't want to completely insult her and save up for the clothes so that I can buy them on my own, since I highly respect both my parents and try to do my best from outright disobeying/insulting them, but I also really love the style of clothing, and find they would really suit me and my personality. I'd love to eventually convince my mother to let me try dressing in the style, but I'm not really quite sure how. Does anyone have any tips?

I agree with you- I love the gothic look. My fiancée recently introduced the pastel gothic style. Pretty neat actually. One thing I love about the "darker" styles is how androgynous it is. It's brilliant. There is a site called goodgoth.com

Their prices are fairly reasonable.
