it looks like I am never going to get the medical treatment I need

Going to the Emily program was an EPIC failure! Apparently they can't tell the difference between an eating disordered thought and a food preference. I hate most desserts. I can't get treatment because of it. Meanwhile every vegetarian can get their needs met.

How is "I don't eat meat" categorically different than "I don't eat pie?" How can I even respect a program that doesn't see the similarity and refuses to recognize it when it is pointed out to them.

I guess my life isn't that important to worry about. So, I will just die a slow painful death.

Emily I think what happens is they have to follow guidelines they are told what is on the menu and have to encourage that . I'm sorry to hear it did not work out . Can't they supplement desert with some fruits have you thought of bringing that up . Just a thought . Wishing you all the best Emily ((( hugs)))

I don't understand, Emily. Unless they're force feeding it to you, couldn't you have just refused to eat it?

MaryEllen, if I refuse to eat it they would just discharge me like they did last time. I can't be set up for failure again. It is too hard on me.

Angelwings, they made it very clear that I would have to eat the desserts that are served period.

The program I was at previously was way more flexible. First you never lost the right to say "no" to any request. Other nationally recognised programs are not so inflexible. They work with the client where they are and try to expand food choices over time. Not making unreal demands on them sat day one. Not that I would ever eat pie.

I'm just tired and want to quit worrying about it. If I get thinner or sick it will just have to happen.

I was in couples counseling this spring and he said to us, "when a couple incessantly fights about the toothpaste cap being off the toothpaste, it isn't really about the toothpaste cap..."

This isn't about the pie, is it...? :)

No, for me it is about the pie. I can't stand pie. I think it is ridiculous that they can't find someway to work with me on this. The last time I tried to eat the stupid pies and I nearly threw up at the table. I am not going to go through that again. Next time it might happen and that would be very disturbing to me and everyone else. It also would not raise my comfort level with food, but potentially increase my feats surrounding it. I font believe it is the right choice for me. I am the one who has to live with the consequences not the providers so my decision stands and they can go find a light bulb to screw

It would all be controlled by how many calories they want you to have . Maybe they can increase the size of your lunch and dinner then that way the calories used for dessert have been added in the dinner and lunch . That could be a better option you have alot ahead of you Emily Alot of good stuff stay focused there is always a way around things .

My mom is going to call and speak to the director on Tue. If she can't broker some kind of sentiment I wonton getting any help until I'm so sick it won't much matter about pie, because I will be fed through a tube.

I think the big point is this; there is no moral or ethical question about pie. Pie is pie is pie is pie. Pie does not mean meat.

Also, do you have an allergy to the specific pie they serve? There are multitudes of pie, there must be one form you like that they can serve.

Also, what about the pie makes you throw up? Is it the taste, texture, your mental association with pie, it being a requirement, the thought of calories? What is it about the pie that makes it that bad?

I don't like the crust. I hate it's texture. I hate that it is bland. It doesn't matter if it is gramcracker crust or traditional. I also don't eat apple crisp or similar desserts because they have a similar texture. If someone could explain why eating any single food is a requirement to get treatment in a logical manner I would listen. But no one has ever been able to do so.

Eating is incredibly stressful to begin with. Why is it necessary to increase the suffering to accomplish treatment. Every other phase of the program we are given choices. Not though with desserts. You eat what they serve period.

Yes, I am not willing to give up control over what I put into my body. I think that is an inalienable right that all adults have. I know I'm not going to love every thing I eat. But I'm not going to eat something I hate.

After eating all day my stomach is filled to capacity during treatment because I have gastroparesis. I am already pushing the limits of what I can contain. Adding something find disgusting is explosive. That why I was discharged in may. I just can't do it. I tried for two weeks then and failed to eat the dessert 3 of the 6 times I tried.

It just isn't an option for me.
